I don't personally want to ... we were all once new here. I was the FNG not too long ago, but I must admit ... with the rash of new kids popping up with their wild spec about how they found an Ace of Spades on one of their six cards, it becomes harder not to follow Spankit's Trout Ninja Academy lead.

I just don't want to be "that guy".

(Give me two more weeks Wink)

I'm all for people getting excited about things they find on the cards, after all, Perplex City is pretty f'n exciting! But for Pete's sake ... some people here have been doing this a long while ... do them a favo(u)r and read the forums first. [/RANT]

Man I never thought I'd do that.

Just some random speculation - I know this is obvious, but the card suits have only appears on odd numbered cards (numbers ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9). Also, doesn't Sheepshead only use 8, 9, J, Q, K, A? Are there any other games that only use these cards?

Okay,

I took out all the cards I had with playing card symbols and then placed them in an order if there was one.

I had a Q diamonds and a 10 diamonds I think and Q clubs and 10 clubs (I will check for you lot). Anyway when two queens placed on top of each other and two tens next to the appropriate cards the shading looked like an A (or more like the lower case a)

I think all the indicators are just markers for where we place the cards. Stick them in the right suits etc.

Obviously we will have to wait for the full release to get to full message

I am not sure if it has been mentioned but there seems to be a connection with the playing card numbers/suits and the shading on the cards. The shading only appears on cards that have the playing card numbers/suits so I assume that when they are placed in a specific order, the shading on the cards will display some sort of message because the each of the shaded spots looks to be a fourth of a letter.

I figured it had been mentioned. My apologies. I was in a bit of a rush so I just had time to post the speculation.

DUDE! Dunno if this merits a new thread (doubtful)

I just figured out the cards... I spent the last few hours seeing if I could mix and match the cards (with help from the wiki and catalog), and realized that the wiki was almost spot on... but the matrix orientation was wrong.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

It's clubs - diamonds - hearts - spades horizontal, and Ace to 2 + joker vertically top to bottom.

Put the cards in that order, and I clearly made out THE and CUB... from there I just went nuts and guessed on other letters, and eventually I came to ...LETHECUBEHELPM...

From then, I just guessed a possible phrase to fill the 39 letter spots, and what do you know - it fits!

I STOLE THE CUBE HELP ME RETURN IT TO THE ACADEMY

I updated the wiki with my notes

Could I have just possibly solved one aspect of the card set as a whole?? Cool

If this is the only thing I really contribute to Perplex City as a whole, I'll be happy Smile

oh. umm.

biiig my bad.

and I even searched... just not hard enough. There are so many threads about the playing cards, but none of them mention a solve on the letters, and the wiki was then apparently way out of date, by over 2 weeks.

well at least I can add my thoughts on the whole message spec... Sad *sigh* oh well. even so, at least the wiki is updated with the correct information about the playing cards.

yesyes, tru dat... and considering I've only really ever lurked in PPC, but my solving curiosity was piqued again when looking over the one pack of cards I ordered causing me to pore over the puzzle for an hour or two, and getting what I did just from that, I'm sufficiently satisfied Smile heh impulsive problem-solving... gotta love it. anyway, back on topic...
