[UPDATE] Sentinel - Aug 8 - Serena wins; museum exhibit

Serena Takes Lead in Beginning Rounds of Championship Play
By CORWIN JONES

PCAG sweetheart Serena Duncan has taken a commanding lead in the first week of championship play, reinforcing her position as the widely-acknowledged favourite to win again this year. Her victories included a resounding 5-2 performance against Ryan Cahill, who foundered in the final three rounds despite a strong start.

Duncan said that she feels confident about the upcoming season. "I feel like I'm really hitting my stride for the year," she told reporters in a post-match conference. "Ryan is a formidable opponent, to be sure. I don't doubt I'll have a tougher time next time."

Some sport analysts have suggested that Cahill would have put in a stronger showing if he had participated in the qualifiers as a warm-up measure, instead of accepting the champion's invitation given as a courtesy to all past winners. Cahill himself spoke after the match, saying that he was "of course unhappy" about the result. He warned, though, that "the season is quite long, and it would be foolish to extrapolate the course of the whole year from the first match."

The Duncan-Cahill face-off, the highlight of the opening gala, was one of the first high-profile matches of the season. The results of other notable weekend matches included Myra Champaign's 4-3 win over Franz Lambert; Georgi Shepherd's 4-3 win over Lucius Jorgensen; and Jack Fleury's surprise 6-1 victory over Gabriella Petel.

The coming week will see Mikhail Terpening vs. Kevin Hamlet, Ethan Roanoke vs. Janice Termigant, and Klaus Johnson vs. Jeannie Murrow, with Terpening, Roanoke and Murrow favoured to win.

Okay is it me or am I actually imagining the whole team at Mind Candy actually playing a game or some sort (table football, poker) to actually see who wins so as to make it unknown.

Nice to see even in Perplex City that every dog does have its day

Wonder if it's worth offering some assistance with the Museum exhibits? Considering how wrong they got it with the Earth Foods article it looks like they need all the assistance they can get... Smile

Way ahead of ya - at least on the food aspect.

Are we going to have to draw up one of those big sporting event tree things with all the pairings of people (I have no idea what those are called)? Wink

I have a feeling they're doing the same thing with the whole ARG scheduling. Smile

Actually, that may be a good idea - can you put it up on the wiki?

fFor now, here's what we have. Actually i dont think the PCAG works on a tree structure, i think it's probably more of a calculated score of winners than this. Like perhaps average a player's scores fFor the whole season. Or average their score, divide/multiply by their number of wins. But I'll definitely keep an eye on this and update as needed. (yes, the heirarchy structure in wiki-language is and will be messy (and slightly less than perfect.). dont mess with it if you dont know what you are doing.)

fFun fFact: there are 7 points awarded per match.

Wonder if its like the tennis - seeded players at different ends of the tree so if they win will meet in teh final or whether like the football and each round names are pulled out of a hat.

are there any bookies taking bets on these games? -- if i get a loan of a few thousand lecks i could turn em into millions in no time Smile

which makes me think -- any chance of doping the contestants without them knowing -- or maybe its already been done - look out for surprise wins/losses

Very Happy

If we knew more about how they are doing, and how they have done, i would have a whole, you know, betting thing going on. but like the best i can give you is "good" odds on duncan winning in the next round, and "fair" odds on champaign. The Terpening match will be a good one to watch. He is fFavoured to win, but it's possible he may be in a nasty downturn since his match with Champaign. One hopes Termigant makes it to round two in a way so she is poised to play against her rival Petel, but since Petel was shockingly defeated, that one may go any way at all.
