NEYOWNTENT....i'm assuming is an anagram for TWENTYONE...but there is an extra N...so maybe they mean TWENTYNONE...aka....TWENTY??? there is also a 12 on the horse...anyways, its to late for this right now, and figuring out the anagram was enough for me before bed.

I just found out that I was indeed blocked from accessing the site, but not by the akalesh-ascendant.com PMs. It was a block automatically instituted by their host:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting (hostname) Live Support, my name is Luke T. , how can I assist you today?
Luke T.:
Welcome to HostForWeb.com, How may I help you?
Addlepated:
Hi there - I'm unable to get to a website hosted by your company, but only from my home IP
Addlepated:
oops, it lost my question
Addlepated:
oh, sorry - it's there. Anyway, I can't get to akalesh-ascendant.com from my ip, but I can get there from others
Addlepated:
the people who run the site assure me that no IP bans are in place, so I'm trying to make sure my IP is not blacklisted
Addlepated:
my IP is x.x.x.x
Luke T.:
okay, just a moment please
Luke T.:
can you try again and let me know if it does not work ?
Addlepated:
Yes, it's getting there now! =)
Addlepated:
What was the issue?
Luke T.:
I will be right with you.
Luke T.:
I had to remove your ip from iptables. If your computer try to connect to an undesired port #, it will get automatically banned
Addlepated:
Interesting - what port numbers are forbidden?
Luke T.:
I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Luke T.:
Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Addlepated:
no rush =)
Luke T.:
it should be :
Luke T.:
# HFW default settings
Luke T.:
TCP_PORTS="1,11,15,111,540,635,1080,1524,2000,12345,12346,20034,32771,32772,32773,32774,49724,54320"
Luke T.:
UDP_PORTS="1,7,9,69,513,640,700,32770,32771,32772,32773,32774,31337,54321"
Addlepated:
That's bizarre, because I don't think I did anything other than ping and use port 80
Addlepated:
I am certainly no hacker =)
Luke T.:
maybe when you try to connect through FTP, or other services it try to connect to a different port # and that is when you get blacklisted
Addlepated:
could be - in any event, thanks for your help
Luke T.:
you're welcome

Well, 12 is the number of years between years of the horse.
1930
1942
1954
1966
1978
1990

The next one would be 2002.

hmmm

Should this maybe be moved to the "ARGs with Potential" forum? This thread is getting pretty long, and if people come across elements other than the puzzle trail, they may want to start a new thread.

He he. Maybe today, then? I know I've turned into a lurker over the past few months, but this one actually has me piqued. Or peaked. Maybe peeked.

Take your pick.

EDIT: You win!

I thought the horse might of had an importance, and so I did a bit of researching and ended up just reading about chinese astrology on Wiki. There was a passage that caught my eye because it incorporated the Yin Yang in the middle of the image, the number twelve, and the horse.

Quote:
The elements are combined with the binary Yin Yang cycle, which enlarges the element cyle to a cycle of ten. Even years are yang, odd years are yin. Since the zodiac animal cycle of 12 is divisible by two, every zodiac can only occur in either yin or yang: the dragon is always yang, the snake is always yin, etc. This combination creates a 60-year cycle, starting with Wood Rat and ending with Water Pig. The current cycle began in the year 1984.

I'm thinking this might be something, so I thought I'd share. I'd try to figure it out some more but I must be off now. Smile

Sign up working?

OK, so I'm not sure if I actually *have* signed up for this game or not... filled out all information but never received any confirmation of success. Has anyone else received email or anything that would lead them to believe tey have signed up successfully?
