Yay for Spam!

Some emails have been slipping through my spam filter. Probably because I still don't have a clue what they're for. So I thought maybe I'd post some of them here as puzzles, so to speak, and let you guys try to figure out what they're promoting! Very Happy

I get 30+ a day. They're just random word strings the spamming software uses to try to get past your filter. Confused

I hates spammers.

Hating Spammers and the TYMBI game

I have over 12,000 spams to my account that get nuked automatically by my three layers of spam prevention. It's really, really, really bad out there.

Which was why 4 years ago a bunch of us built up a little email game called "Thought you might be interested" (that originated because a balding friend's well-intentioned mother kept forwarding him hair regrowth spams because she "thought you might be interested in ...")

Basically, you're just looking for spam that makes an effective TYMBI to another player in your email collective, and you write a humorously oblivious intro paragraph as part of the delivery. And you have alot of people on the cc:. The victim must score it for points on a 10 point scale (there is no appeal for a bad score, but the group tends to brutally punish low scorers with additional TYMBIs.) Totally arbitrary scoring.

Bonus points are assigned for innovative new techniques like the "reverse tymbi" (making a fake spam to another game player in the hopes they use it as a TYMBI play to the rest of the group) or a "tymbi mule" (getting someone not playing the game to innocently deliver a TYMBI without knowing it) or the "paranoid points" (when someone starts accusing the group of having sent something as a fake tymbi when in fact it was just regular spam.)

Spam can be fun if you're looking for the gems to use a gameplay Smile

As of yet, my gmail account (which I've had since November) has not gotten any spam.

Yay!

FLmutant, I can't decide whether I admire your innovativeness or think you have too much time on your hands. Wink

What's an example intro paragraph?

Wayne,

I know that your upbringing in West Virginia didn't provide you the best edjunacational opportunities, so I thought you might be interested in this email about a college degree you can purchase online! $149 is less than my monthly student loan payments were!

Ur yankie frund,

Brian

(begin forwarded email re: Ur College Degree 4 Cheap!!!!!)

The more you know about someone, the better you can target your TYMBIs *whistles innocently* Wayne's inevitible response to all would be some defense about WV and then a relatively low score for lack of creativity.

What makes it fun is the gang social aspect -- if it had been a brilliant TYMBI and Wayne had scored it a 2, others on the email chain would immediate start finding things to TYMBI that low scorer with, forcing them to have to score an ever increasing number of plays until they relinquish to more fair scoring. Twisted Evil

Good! The really sick part is that I told the TYMBI crew this was a new form of TYMBI (so don't be surprised if Wayne doesn't come by to give me score ... you watch, he'll try to weasel out on some kind of unappealable technicality.) Twisted Evil
