hoooookay, so everyone's gonna be working on ideas.... anyone else see 50 games springing to life in the course of a week when they're rejected? Shocked

This sounds great-- I'm quite excited and would, of course, be willing to join up with any ya'll. Very Happy

Remember American Idol? How people who didn't win got record deals?......... whats gonna stop the two losers who were nevertheless good enoguh to make the top three from just launching their games? Just a thought.

I have already started formulating ideas for a story I came up with a while ago. Of course we don't know what format the submissions will be so all i have is notes right now. If anyone wants to peek behind a curtain that hasn't been drawn, PM me.

I received a PGL update in my email:

Quote:
August 12th marks the 62nd anniversary of the Philadelphia Experiment. What does that have to do with this episode of GPod Radio? Not a damn thing.

Now, back to the show. This week we have Dave Szulborski tied to the mast to give us all the gritty details about what he‚s been up to lately and what‚s coming. Unfortunately, this interview was conducted using inferior equipment so you‚ll have to live with the janky sound. The music was left at 128kb though to compensate. For the one or two comments we received regarding our use of Disturbed in almost every episode, we‚ve made sure to include more. Wink

Enjoy.

Download Show #6

Joseph Matheny interviews his favorite whackos.

Every so often we will present an interview with an emerging artist that we like.

No format, no tight schedule, no real reason other than to share?

GPod Radio is everything radio usually isn‚t.

The only difference between GPod Radio and the rantings of a crazy man is; GPod Radio is not crazy at all!

GPod Radio is the Pee Wee Herman lost in a mad house full of Madonna Ciccone‚s.

GPod Radio is not a list.

GPod Radio is paranoid but not afraid to admit it.

One interesting thing also mentioned is that Dave's new book is going to have specially-made Perplex City cards included in the first 200 copies.

I signed up for that community whatever it is, and was disappointed to see that 'played Lockjaw' was not on the list of ARG-related aspects (when creating my profile). Sad

I created my own vertion of Last Comic standing (Last gamer standing) and the apprentice (The Beta-tester) and I am currently hard at work on a 50 level puzzle trail (but I'm not suppose to tell you that till later so shhhhhh)

I am currently in college and am an inspireing writer despite having a spelling problem. PM OR IM me to chit chat

Yeah, I signed up, too. There's the section where you drag around the ARGs that you've played before, and yet not all of those were choices for your favorite ARG (namely, the one I would have picked). D'oh!

just got an email update:

Quote:
Before we tell you what it is, let us tell you why the schedule has moved a bit: We were approached by not one but three sponsors that after agreeing to become a PGL sponsor becamje involved in mergers and aquisitions. This has all become to out benefit from the perspective of media exposure and prizes, it has however caused us to shift things back a few months. Project Game Light will be launching in early 2006. Now, on to the WHAT we are...
Project Game Light : The first contest of its kind, blurring the lines between Reality TV, Game Development and Alternate Reality Gaming. Contestants and viewers will get a firsthand, real-time taste of the challenges of the creation of an actual game in an exciting new hybrid form of entertainment.

Project Game Light will feature three teams of amateur alternate reality game creators, or puppet masters (PMs), as they struggle to make an ARG under the strict budget and scheduling constraints of a commercial project. Project Game Light's audience will be allowed and encouraged to interact with the teams and the events of the contest itself, by suggesting in-game situations, puzzles, and other game elements to be included in each team's ARG.

The Project Game Light audience will also be the primary playtesters of the games being developed, and will be involved with real time interactions just as there would be in an actual alternate reality game.

What is an ARG?
An alternate reality game is a game or narrative that is based on but not necessarily restricted to the Internet. Many people think that ARGs resemble online stories, fictional narratives that you experience in some ways similar to a novel, but that take advantage of the technical capabilities of the Internet, allowing you to interact with the fictional world of the storyline.

Alternate Reality Games, or ARGs for short, present an immersive, realistic gaming experience by using everyday methods of communication to tell their story, such as websites, email, instant messaging, and phone calls. The characters in the game's fictional world actually contact and interact with you during the course of the ARG as the story unfolds in real time. Because of their powerfully engaging and immersive nature, ARGs have been used successfully in multimillion dollar marketing and company branding campaigns.

Get Involved!
Do you think it would be fun to be a professional game designer or really cool to be on a reality TV show like Survivor or Big Brother? Project Game Light might just be your chance to live out both of these dreams, at the same time!

Project Game Light is the first contest of its kind, combining the very best and most exciting aspects of Reality TV, Game Development, and Alternate Reality Gaming.

But Project Game Light is groundbreaking in another way, too. Project Game Light is a new and truly unique hybrid form of entertainment. It's not just a videotaped show made for the Internet, or an Internet contest with video elements. Instead, Project Game Light combines the immediacy and emotional drama of the reality TV show format with the interactivity and pervasiveness of a multimedia narrative marketing campaign.

Here's how you can get involved with Project Game Light!
As a possible contestant – Very shortly, we'll be posting complete details and requirements for applying to be one of the three amateur PM teams involved with Project Game Light. Please keep checking this site for updates and announcements. In the meantime, your team can be polishing up your idea for an alternate reality game, because part of the submission process will be "pitching your game" to us just as you might to a commercial client.

As a possible online play tester – Even if you can't or don't want to be part of the actual Project Game Light show, you can still be part of it through the Internet, as one of the official play testers for the ARGs the teams are making. You can help put them through the paces by interacting with the characters and worlds they create, just as you would in an actual alternate reality game.

As a fan of Project Game Light – Project Game Light will be utilizing a brand new community building and interaction software by IntroNetworks, allowing fans of the contest to interact with the teams and personalities of he show, other fans of Project Game Light, and the ARG community as a whole. The Project Game Light IntroNetwork will be your primary source of updates and interaction with the show and help you find and get together with others who share the same interests, skills, and experience with ARGs.
Sign Up Today!
You don't have to wait for Project Game Light to actually begin to start building your relationships with other Project Game Light and ARG fans. The Project Game Light IntroNetwork is available right now. Click here to sign up today!

Prizes:
Project Game Light has already lined up tremendous sponsors, allowing the contest to offer a great assortment of prizes for the teams involved with the show. Prizes will include professional software applications, licenses, and products, as well as opportunities for funding of their game ideas as full-scale commercial ARG projects. Full details about prizes will be available shortly.

so teams of three....anyone interested in joining me? i have never really made an ONLINE game before...but i'm going to school to be a movie director and i have alot of great ideas...so just pm me if you're interested and we can start working on something.

So, have you all filled out the IntroNetworks profile? It's really quite interesting to see where you stand next to others. It takes a few minutes, but you can go back and change any/all of your answers. I went back and reranked some of my preferences to more adequately express myself and it almost completely changed my little inner circle, which was interesting.

I must admit, some of it doesn't seem incredibly well thought out (which I doubt is an indication of PGL in general, but first impressions and all that). Not only are there several notable absenses (PPC & Mindcandy - responsible for one of the most popular games of the last year or so and regularly bringing in new people to the genre & UF; Push, NV - while arguably disappointing it also brought a number of people to the genre including some of the more active member; and Lockjaw - ancient though it may be, it is listed as a number of people's favorite game but isn't an option under 'played', and what about Team UH which wasn't only Dave) but the choices that one has to make don't always seem indicitive of the community or the genre. We regularly have debates over whether people are "puzzle people" or "story people" and yet that isn't an option. Also, under interests, are there any of us here (aside from kxmom... hi mom!) that are so into bmx and racing and fourwheeling and such that we need to distinguish between them? Why only list two genres of storytelling (be it literature or game) when there are so many more and some, arguably, as integral to ARGs as Science Fiction. The way it matches people by interest and even allows you to search by interest, it would seem to be far more successful in it's goals (assuming the goals are to help match members of the community as well as help PGL teams create experiences to best target the potential audience) if the interests and questions were a bit more representative of the community as a whole.

In any event, it's all quite cool and I've wasted many minutes mousing over people both in and out of my circle to see who they are & their interests. I just think that the success of it depends as much on the community it represents as it does the people behind it. It's success also depends on getting as many of us to fill it out as possible, so what are you waiting for... head on over to IntroNetworks and fill it out! The info you share can only help, even if you just plan on playing, it will help the teams selected to participate in Project Gamelight in knowing their potential audience!

The IntroNetworks Profile

Thanks for the input about the profiling form and questions. Actually, the IntroNetworks portion got activated a little before all the fine tuning was complete, but thankfully the flexibility built into the system allows us to adjust it as we go, so we can still change things to make them more appropriate and reflective of the ARG community as a whole. That was the intent of building in the feedback questions about what you would like to see included in the IntroNetworks interface and community, but we can certainly use UF to help do that too.

So, if you have checked out the IntroNetworks application and have any suggestions for changes and or additions to the various sections, please post them here and I will make sure there are passed on to the people working on the interface and application. They can add, change and remove the profile criteria as suggested, and the participants can change their choices at any time to reflect the changes and additions. Hopefully, in just a short while we'll finalize the choices and "lock them in," and the IntroNetworks communtiy we are building will become an even more valuable tool for Project Game Light.

I'll be posting some more information about PGL and upcoming changes and announcements here soon.

yep, that and Xenophile! I was kind of thinking/hoping it was because the show was limited to a Canadian audience. Who cares about Canadians... poutine-eating igloo-dwelling freaks, the lot of em Wink
