I'd play, but already I see an oversight in their programming. The email link is in Flash, so I cannot see the address where I might need to send an email. When I click, my browser reminds me that I do not have Outlook installed, at least not as a plug-in.

So, should I ask another (future) player where that email should go, along with any subject line the link might generate? Or should I sulk until the game begins without me?

p.s., check out the source code for the popup (if you are not also popup-challenged) and you'll find a phone number.

Yes, the popup box had a phone number. When I called, I got the message machine of Dave Regenhardt:

Quote:
Hey, you've reached Dave Regenhardt in HR. Sorry I can't take your call, but leave your name and number, I'll get back to you as soon as I can. If you're calling about your employee login info, leave your Employee ID as well. Thanks.

So maybe we need to find someone's, maybe Neo's employee id? FYI, in the first Matrix movie, MetaCortex / MetaCortechs is the name of the company Neo worked for, and in the scene when Neo is being scolded by his boss for being late, Neo addresses him as what sounds like "Mr. Regenhardt" or "Mr. Rhinehart." I'm sure it's the same dude.

This is cool, we may have a real ARG here! Anyone have any ideas?

This is the information in the popup source code:

Code:
<MCEmp name="Regenhardt, David" id="0280339" office="Redland" tel="206.202.2335">Dave Regenhardt</MCEmp>

The domain was registered by proxy so there's no info on the registrar. The phone is in Washington..

If this is an actual matrix based arg, it's gonna blow everything away! fingers crossed here..

How was the site disovered?

Hullo.

These games seems to be funny... =P
I also want to play... Very Happy

Quote:
The name of the company Neo works for is Metacortex.
The roots of this word are meta-, which according to Webster's means "going beyond or higher, transcending,"
and -cortex, which is "the outer layer (boundary) of gray matter surrounding the brain."
Thus, Metacortex is "transcending the boundaries of the brain,"
which is precisely what Neo proceeds to do.

About the date October 1st.

Oct. 1, 1999 'Matrix' DVD Record
The Matrix wasn't just one of the most successful films of 1999 in theaters, because it's now also the record holder for best selling DVD ever. According to a number of sources, Warner Bros. has shipped over 1.5M units of the DVD in just a little over a week's time, more than any prior film released in this format. The Matrix had also already set a record by selling the most DVD's within a week's time, in this case 780,000 units. Furthermore, according to Variety, the first week's sales number doesn't include online sales figures.

press release

i frequent some matrix related fan site messageboard www.matrixfans.net and somebody discovered this site. it comes up as a paid link in google so this might be made by people involved with the movies.

somebody emailed metacortechs before and this press release was sent to him:

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
Redland, WA - SEPTEMBER 19, 2003 - MetaCortex Corp. announced today the development of its new MetaVR entertainment system, for use in conjunction with its MetaGamex computer gaming console.

The MetaVR entertainment system is currently the most sophisticated Virtual Reality complex developed for the home entertainment market. Consisting of a set of MetaVR goggles, a stereo headset, infrared tactile sensor/emitters and an olfactory chest plate, the MetaVR system breaks new ground in providing absolutely immersive, lifelike, convincing gaming like nothing ever seen before.

Our new MetaVR system will take gaming a quantum leap beyond anything that our competitors have been able to create so far, stated Steven Walsh, CEO of MetaCortex. We're on the cutting edge of the gaming marketplace. We're very excited about the worldwide anticipation for this new system, and we've put a lot of effort into putting more of what players want into the MetaVR. Already, we are building substantial inventories in anticipation of consumer demand.

The MetaVR system uses new proprietary MetaCortex software to actually anticipate the players' moves, buffering what it thinks will happen in order to avoid any kind of perceptual lag on the player's behalf. This lag has been the primary limitation on the gaming community's willingness to wholly embrace true virtual reality systems in the past, since it has a tendency to make players nauseous, which clearly is not in our best interest as a developer, stated Walsh. However, all indications are that these anomalies have been completely eliminated from the core MetaVR operating system.

Providing sensory input to four of the five senses, the MetaVR system will let players see in stereo 3-D vision, hear in simulated surround stereo, feel objects when they're held or impact their bodies, sense temperature changes, and even smell their simulated surroundings. Players have yet to realize how important olfactory feedback is in the gaming world, because they take it for granted in the real world, Walsh continued. Imagine the adrenaline rush as, while you're exploring an alien world, you realize that you are smelling the sour musky odor of an invisible grungbeast. That smell could give you those precious extra seconds that may mean the difference between life and death, or at least having to start a level over.

MetaCortex has only recently made inroads into the gaming genre. Known for its expertise in developing business and information applications, the Company has made a huge impact worldwide, quickly becoming *the* force to be reckoned with in the computer industry.

In the original Matrix, when Agent Smith opens Neo's file, there's a big number down the left-hand side of the page: 3809940TAA. More like that's his Agency case file number, rather than employee number. I saw nothing more from the stills during that scene.

Hey, you've reached Dave Regenhardt in HR.

note that the popup text says he is in the I.T. department, not H.R.

not the same dude. The character is in the credits as Rhinehart, so we're not trying to reach Neo's boss.

As an aside, I like how the popup html wraps the employee info in a special 'MCEmp' tag. I'll assume this is a MetaCortexEmployee marker which will do something within the site once we login.
