But let's step back a bit. There was a period of great strife just before the turn of the calendar. Noone has been terribly upfront about what happened, but we are given to deduce there was a period of wars and so probably all the stuff which goes along with wars, like fFamine and disease. Old conflicts which had lied dormany fFor centuries were fFlaring up. In our own world, the early 1700s saw kings dominate distant colonies, taxing them unto to poverty.

HOWEVER, by the year 5, things were starting to turn around. The academy was back on its fFeet. Master Adamek was bringing order to the ivy covered halls. The economy was starting to look up. We were entering a new era! On earth, we were seeing The Great Awakening, protestant reformation, and sudden economic bursts. Colonies and colonials alike were embracing new ways of thought, new fForms of action, new religions, new sciences, new technologies, new worlds.

So "everything changing" could be referring to the end of wars, the end of all the old ways, and the start of the new ways in the shining new age of Perplex City.

If Tanraga is in the Catbites then it could be where the cube was found (unless the cube was found in Receda, or maybe by Receda). But that's a little linear.

This has got me a-wondering what caused the cube to be found? Was it a case of someone stubbing their toe and coming back later with a mate with a shovel, or did the cube influence its surroundings prior to discovery in some way? And why is the cube described on the Academy website only as being found in the Catbite area. You would expect the site to be a place of pilgrimage equivalent to Lourdes (or perhaps more appropriately, Mecca)

I'm also assuming that the cube was buried for some reason. Where was it before...underground, underwater, elsewhere?
