Memories
A few of us would like to share our memories of Pietro with you.

Pietro was always my hero, my big brother. For all that he was always picking on me, insulting me, kicking me off the sofa and stealing my dolls, I always knew that it was all a front. And when we got bigger, he always kept me safe from his friends. It was OK for him, but Gyvann help the boy who gave me a look he didn't like.
Pietro's sister Angela

Pietro and I first met when he was a cub reporter and I was the news editor. He bet me two hundred lecks that he could break Cooper's record for number of front-page stories in his first year. I laughed at him, because of course I could choose what would make it onto the front page and force him to lose the bet. But he was that good. Every piece he wrote was big news, and he became a regular on page one, and he did break the record. It was the best two hundred lecks I ever spent. I miss him so much.
Michiko Clark

Pietro and I were in a band together in college - The Flaming Miles. We never made the bigtime, but we had a great time playing together. Pietro was the soul of that band - he was the reason we all showed up for practice on time. I feel privileged to have known him.
Arno - friend of Pietro

I still remember the day Pietro was born - when mom brought him home from the hospital I was so excited I was jumping up and down. I wanted to have someone to play football with, but it took a few years for him to get to that point! He was the greatest younger brother you could hope for; in the summers we'd spend hours together in our treehouse, playing at being pirates or spies. He always thought up the greatest ideas for games. Later in life, when he was pursuing real stories I was so proud of him. The guys at the hospital got sick of me pointing out his stories in the paper. Pietro and I used to talk about how one day, our kids would be able to play together in a treehouse just like we'd done. I can't believe that'll never happen now. Saman and I will always miss him.
Pietro's brother Philip

Pietro and I, we always went out scouting for girls together. Nobody would look at me when he was around, so it was a fine thing for me the day he met Sylvia.
Rob - friend of Pietro

Pietro really took me under his wing my first months at the Sentinel. He taught me everything I know - everything I never learned in college.
Marta - colleague of Pietro

Pietro made me proud so many times. The day he graduated college with highest academic distinction. The day he had his first article published in the Sentinel, and the many stories that followed. The day he married Sylvia and I watched them dance the first dance together. I never hear "Sweet Serenity" without thinking of that day. Just knowing I had Pietro as a son filled me with pride and joy in his accomplishments. He was an incredible man: strong but caring, kind, honest, loyal, hardworking, committed to his wife and family. All I have now is the knowledge that I told him how proud he made me every time I saw him. He was the best of us.
Pietro's dad, Vincent

Pietro and I, we had something that just fell perfectly into place, a kind of electricity. It was just right, and we both knew it. Life was never dull with Pietro around, he floated from one adventure to the other, and I got to follow along for the ride. He had such a good heart, and he worked so hard to bring justice to the city. But he always, always made time for me, and did a thousand small things every day to make me feel loved. I remember how, when we were first married, he brought flowers home to me every Friday for three months! I finally told him it was getting too expensive, so he should stop. He started to grow them for me that day, instead. I just don't know how I will ever get along without him.
Pietro's wife, Sylvia

Pietro and I had a thing for a while in his early days at the Sentinel, but it was always on again and off again. Well, after he met Sylvia, it was very clear it was just plain off, and we became friends instead. Sylvia, you're very lucky for the time you had with him.
Zahra - friend of Pietro

Several years ago, my husband was murdered by a mugger who was trying to steal my purse. At that time, so many journalists hounded me for information and details. I never felt like they really cared about me. Pietro was the only one who took the time to come back once the furore had died down, to check that I was OK. He had the kind of heart most reporters lose early in their careers.

I think they're taunting us about the flowers - the eulogy from Golda Flynt mentioned "those particular flowers that Sylvia loved so well"

grrrr.

But if we ever get pictures of the Salk home, the flowers out front should tell us the password.

Perhaps we're cracking these too quick. The password for the first log, about Pietro's dad, was taken from his middle name at a guess, but this page now proves that Vincent was his dad's name and the correct password. Is this all the page is for? Or it could be something else and just confirming what we know since we have already cracked the password. Anyone confused yet? Confused

I think the page passwords will be revealed to us, or at least hinted at, rather than expecting us to just guess them.
Patience is a virtue, and with Perplex City, it is a necesity.

<rant>One the problems I have with PPC is the lack of puzzles (outside the cards). Pietro's maze was kind of interesting but generally the passwords are given straight to us.
The story is cool and very well presented but I feel were just being led through it rather than puzzling it out for ourselves.</rant>

<rant>Seconded. It seems that even when we do manage to figure some stuff out for ourselves (mostly through guessing unfortunately, like 'iris') they aren't letting us through unless it follows their timeline.

I thought the whole thing with an ARG was how the game changes based on interaction with the players. If we figure something out ahead of schedule, things should adapt.

Now all the sudden 'iris' is no longer a valid answer for the favorite flower password. What, did Pietro change it from his grave? Oh, I know, he's just in witness protection Smile

Ok, got that out of my system....</rant>

Who said 'Iris' was the correct answer?? I think we all agreed that the password was accepted but it never took you to a new page, just back to the main page of the Salkfamily site. Granted that when entering wrong passwords you get a different response and so would imply the password as being 'Iris' but has never actually been confirmed.

Oh, it's obvious that "iris" was never meant to be a valid password as far as MC were concerned.

From a technical standpoint, however, it was. That is, as far as the HTTP basic authentication protocol is concerned it was most definitely a valid password. It unlocked the directory and all of its contents. At the time, there just wasn't an index.html file there to see. The server is configured to direct you back to the main page when you hit a directory without an index.html file (not too uncommon).

That didn't mean the directory itself was actually empty, it just meant that there was no way to tell what was in it. I had assumed/hoped that eventually they'd give us a clue to the name of a file to look for in that directory (probably something to do with a specific KIND of iris).

Unfortunately the directory turned out to be empty and they just flat out changed the password when they were ready for us to get in. Then they went ahead and just gave us the new password without any riddle at all.

Ok, I really was done ranting... He started it Embarassed
