in a google search I found gaj to have indian meaning:

Quote:
Elephant symbology: In Indian temple architecture, the elephant has contributed to an important concept called the Gajthar (gaj = elephant ; thar = base). It simply represents the lowest slab of the entire construction spectrum made up of the element of the square at the base and overlain by the elements of the circle, the triangle, the crescent and the dot respectively. It is commonplace to find the elephant symbolically replacing the square so that the temple appears to be upheld by sculpted elephants. The point here being that the elephant is considered an epitome of strength, adequate enough to uphold the weight of a Stone temple. The symbology of the elephant extends into the domain of the sacred, with the Ganesh (Indian God with human body and elephant head ) being worshipped as a sign of well being, prosperity as well as a mover of good things and events.

I want to draw a parralel with "lowest level of construction spectrum" and elements

I took the letters Incitatus got "FTQGXITQYUEFES(Variable#)V" replacing the varible 47 with G, and got:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ROT-14 THEULWHEMISTSGUJ, but if you go to rot 20, where the U and W are corrected to A and C in alchemists, the last three letters become MAP.

The Alchemists map?

Since Deanna who I guess is in trouble used GreatestJournal.com to host the picture that we are decrypting I did a search there for thealchemist and got this. http://www.greatestjournal.com/users/thealchemists/ Not usre if it means anything or just someone else going off on something completely different. Internet is flaky here so most times I get errors when trying to surf. Will have to wait till I get home to do further research. Anyways thealchemist has some puzzle he is working on linked to his site. Something about an old book translated centuries ago to english.

That story sounds like the DNS lookup process.

from the journal:

"Anyway I thought I should give some background on this journal. see, my friends and I are interested in the occult. We recently found this book which seems really old. And it's about magic, of course! Smile The problem is that some of it's in code. and the rest is really obscure. I'm not quite sure what to make of it, but Ive heard the internet has solutions to all problems, so...Smile"
emphasis mine

so i think you guys did it

Right, and the greatest journal would explain that GJ thing, too, IMO.

Throwing out ideas here, because I can't be in chat, and don't have much time.
Pi is a Grecian letter and may represent circular coding, as in wrap the text, or rot the text or ...??

The A didnt have a number with it like I noted, so it can be safely ignored I guess. It was wrong spec on my part.

The moon symbol was probably telling us it is "the alchemists" symbol for silver.

His user profile

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In "The Alchemists" user profile, under the heading Lost Magics he puts Magnum Opus.
Not sure if it's meant as masterpeice or is pointing toward this rule discovery software a google search reveals. http://www.rulequest.com/MagnumOpus-info.html

Edit: Scratch what I previously thought, this seems to fit much more closely: Info on Magnum Opus

See, here's the thing.
The original decode from Hex to ASCII yields:
fTQGXITQYUefeSGV

Throw that into ROT-It to get
Rot-14: tHEULWHEMIstsGUJ

Hey! Almost there, but A and C don't ROT, so where are they?

Rot-20: zNKARCNKSOyzyMAP
tHEULWHEMIstsGUJ
zNKARCNKSOyzyMAP
So the letters that ROT-20 and not 14 could be UWGUJ (ACMAP)

What does this all mean? Probably nothing since the site has been found, but still...there it is.

Jeebus, Trout my ass and call me Judy. Enaxor posted the same info on this very page.
Sorry. I'll step away from the post button for a while Embarassed

J5, no rot was ever needed. The hex just almost works due to the way numbers work IRL. (See my previous post where I had the clean solve, no rots).

Basically, to explain better, we had digits in a range less than 26. Lowest was 47, so I assumed 47 = A, and just subracted 46 from everything. Then it was a simple A=1, B=2...Z=26. The Hex came out correctly with a proper rot because of the way numbers naturally work. the AC in our code was 47,49...in decimal, its still only 2 numbers apart, just like hex...but when you got from 49 to 50...its now 6 numbers apart in Hex, not 1, explaining the difference between the ROT-14 and ROT-20. Make sense?

No Rot was ever needed, and the MAP at the end is a red herring AFAIC.

Yeah, I figured you did something along those lines to get your solve.

Carry on.
