I remember being pissed that the closest axon was in Braintree, MA, and begging the PMs to activate an axon in RI (hopefully my hometown). Well, I think it was week 3 that an axon came to my hometown. And I'll be damned, but I couldn't find the freakin' thing until week 5. But a few other Rhode Island Beekeepers (the Rhode Island Covert Squad) found it when it went live.

/me pauses due to the rush of emotion.

Well, um, yeah, y'all know the rest. It's just one of those things you'll never forget.

Ooof, missed the Axionversary, sorry! (For reasons that'll be explained on my blog early next week. Again with the cryptic, I know...)

Then again the axons themselves didn't play a part in my ILB experience as payphones don't work that way up here. *sigh* Still, the day was charged with excitement wasn't it? It was cool watching you guys discover what this was all about, and chipping in my $0.03 CAD in whenever feasible.

Only a year? It seems so long ago, now. (And yet so soon, too. Strange, that.)

Ive been so busy..havent slept for about 3 days, so I missed the anniversary:P

How amazing was that...magical time, for the first time since I was much younger I experienced wonder, and a surge of creativity, that "Let's Pretend" magic that we leave behind as children. Such was I born to the world of ARG's.

Beautiful, crisp fall mornings, cool and chilly august evenings travelling with friends, scrambling to complete missions, getting in the groove.
A windy day in joliet when I got the call from the Sleeping Princess.

Training missions.

best time Ive had in years.
Thanks.

I remember. I soaked a washcloth in water, then while my mom walked by the bathroom door I dry heaved and wrung out the washcloth so that it sounded like I vomited. She let me stay home and I was there all morning listening to the axons. Surprised

Yeah, I suck.

See, I never got to the axons. My memories are of sending the PM's numerous pieces of fanfiction, drawing a wedding cake in The GIMP, cracking puzzles online in massive, bandwidth-crushing blitzes, and driving around Detroit prior to drill to fail miserably (though I did meet Ermac and Mr. Beefy in the attempts).

...okay, there was the bit after-game in which I encouraged the infliction of pain upon several listeners via Zan's Whitney Houston impression. I wonder if the PM's noticed yet....

I remember the thrill I got watching the axons go hot on my computer. Unfortunately I couldn't answer any living in Canada. But I noticed that the closest axon to Vancouver was in Bellingham, Washington (one and a half hours drive, roughly). Day after day I watched that coordinate, like an itch I couldn't scratch. I forget the exact date, but finally, I could stand the pain no longer. I hoped in my car, drove to the border, told the surly customs guy that I was going shopping (would have ended up in the crazy house had I told him the real reason for my trip), and headed for the site.

I reached the college campus, parked and started my payphone search. I finally decided to wait by the only phone I could find. It looked perfect for an axon, standing all by it's own, almost begging for axon hunters. I stood inside the phone booth... waiting, watching the time. Once the correct minute struck, no ringy dingy. Waited another five, still... no ringy dingy. But then, to my utter shock, what did I see sitting on the payphone ... A BIG ASS BEE! After being stunned with shock, I was able to regain my senses. I looked up into the top corner of the booth and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a small bee's nest with bees crawling on it, inside the booth. Wow, what a day, turns out I was actually at the wrong phone, but it was still worth it.

photos of the day are here http://burper.blogspot.com/

Great memories

I was glued to the axon reports and soundfiles at work, then for about three weeks I was taking weekly walks at lunchtime (over fields, through fences) to try and locate pay phones (strangely absent from this industrial park hinterland part of Dublin, Ireland). I finally found one closer than I thought but with only a week and a half left in the game, Melissa didn't add it to the list. Did that huge gang of London UK hunters ever get calls?

oh and i can't forget the new york trip.. i've never driven so far away from home without my parents. my first big trip.... just to play halo lol.. it was so worth it though.
taking 2 cars and driving to kingston to pick people up... then finally heading to NY.. the 3 hour traffic jam.. the long drive down the FDR... seeing manhatten for the first time ever.. it was the best.

i sure hope Durga or someone starts getting a hold of us again soon for some other future problem that'll lead up to Halo 3 Very Happy

heck, i'd still love it if they made a beekeepers video game. playing as kamal or something in the future. now that'd kick.

I suppose this is as good a place as any to post this. For the Axioniversary I decided to finally get all of the ilb wav files converted to mp3 and burned to disk so I could listen to the entire story on long road trips. If anyone's still looking for the complete set of files or just don't feel like doing all the converting to make your own disk, i've got an .iso disk image bittorrented for anyone that wants it. Snag it here if you want it.

I may go ahead and get a .zip file of all of the sound files up as well. Question is, would you all rather have the .wavs or .mp3s?

I'm probably not the majority, but I prefer WAVs because they are Lossless. But MP3 players are all the rage and MP3s take up less space.

Was that sufficiently vague? Razz

Hey guys,
It's been a long time since I've been on the forum...but I've been think about the community a lot lately. It's good to see that many of you guys are still here in the forum.
I know that I didn't contribute a lot at the time but it was a lot of fun for those few months last year.
I still remember my gf (now wife) being supportive of something she really didn't understand.
We all had that going on though...whether it was family, firends or co-workers.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi...again.

definitely. and I'mw watching firefly right now - river and simon are creepily similar to kamal and yasmine... and river, when she talks quiet, can sound eerily like the princess/yasmine... *shivers*

but for audio, I've got all the files split up by scene and ordered logically at http://creepy.thebruce.ca/AxonScenes.asp - on a daily per week rotation to conserve bandwidth (links change daily, with a 7 day cycle).

now if only I had enough discipline to do all the writing to do weekly updates... Confused Wink
