it is most probably your java version, i needed to install update four before i could run it. Has anybody got any ideas about what use the building maintenance page has, the links definitely look interesting, but they dont work. Perhaps the main page will change and give us some more info?
P.S If i was Mind Candy, i'd probably check the forums every day... perhaps thats how they know when to spoonfeed us, also its not all about the £100,000 i posted the password as soon as i found it.
PPS Its not the wining, its the taking part that counts

People reporting similar room 14s got me thinking about those 'spot the differences' puzzles... I can't be bothered looking myself, but do the other rooms on each floor share similar similarities? If they do not, then [room 14, level x] looks more like a lead and less like free association from 'r14' bringing up server room 4.
It seems to me (although, I can really talk, having done next to nothing in this arg so far) that picking rooms at random and following them until they fail will take forever to find the 'right' room. What the 'right room' has to do with this is so far unknown to me (perhaps http://salkfamily.com/theyarethisstory/ will shed light when we unlock it?) but finding it seems to be the most obvious objective of the program, considering the clues we've been given.
Personally, I'm going to wait until that passworded log is unlocked, because all the blue is making my eyes water, but if anyone wants to check every room against the criteria, it would make life easier for everyone else.
I wrote this down for my own convenience, and then ran out of steam:
>Requirements:
Single occupant staying in room
Day 01 (25 May) 17.38 Returns
Day 16 (9 June) 02.30 Returns
Day 18 (11 June) 10.15 Absent
Day 20 (13 June) 20.59 Absent
Day 20 (13 June) 21.26 Returns
Day 21 (14 June) 12.41 Absent
Day 21 (14 June) 23.22 Leaves
Day 23 (16 June) 17.15 Returns
Day 23 (16 June) 19.32 Leaves
Day 26 (19 June) 04.41 Leaves
Day 26 (19 June) 04.59 Returns
Assuming PFCMacWalker actually has the right room and isn't revealing which one, someone should stop outside the room on Day 14 (June 7) 1830
Those times are obviously very hazy: For instance, I noticed that after saying she'd be away for 24 hours at 11.22pm, 155-14 didn't leave until 10am the next day. Does this count? I don't know.
SteveC, which rooms did you manage to disprove before the java crashes became unbearable? Listing them will save people doubling up.

Just an FYI
I just started up the program again today and noticed that WebStart downloaded an updated version of the Jar file. Not sure what is different, but most likely it's just internal changes that we won't notice, except for perhaps increased stability or performance.

I got the same update... Maybe it won't crash as much now
I started naming all the little dots to make it easier to track them. So far I've named all the dots in all the rooms on all the floors as of the start time. I thought I'd share my list in the hopes that it makes things easier for everyone else. Hopefully I don't have any typos
The names are in format:
<floor> <room> [nofm]
so for room 14 on floor 155 (which has one person in it to start) the red dot is named:
155 14
And for room 5 on floor 159 (which has 3 people in it to start) the dots are named:
159 05 1of3
159 05 2of3
159 05 3of3
Attached is my "sensor.names.props" file which you can replace yours with (there's no real easy way to merge them unfortunately). Back your current file up if you want to keep it around.
When you download the file you need to rename it to "sensor.name.props". By default, the sensor.names.props file is in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\sensor.names.props on Windows. I haven't run this on other platforms, but I presume it's in your home directory on every platform.
Good luck and happy hunting. Let me know if there are any errors in the file and I'll correct them. Thanks!
EDIT: 08/26 21:57 EST: The previously posted version was missing floors 150-154. This has been corrected. As a result of this exercise I can say with almost complete certainty that the starting positions for each person in each room on each floor is identical. I think I need to upload this to the wiki next
EDIT: 08/27 00:00 EST: Updated to include the people in Server Room 4. These are simply named SR 00 through SR 15. Enter R14 to see server room 4.

I can confirm that on the Mac, it is right there in your home folder.

Does the level code "r14" still bring up server room 4?

So maybe it isn't a bug? But why should R14 lead to Server Room 4 when the more appropriately titled SR4 does the job already? They aren't separate, identical rooms -- your sensor.names.props file proves that.

There is a new news item, I can't seem to see it mentioned elsewhere so I thought I'd drop in my tuppence worth:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Notices:
26th August 268:
We are testing a new live technical support facility with automatic configuration based on user location. This facility will be available for testing on Wednesday 31st August from 5:20pm to 7pm GMT, with access numbers being announced shortly beforehand.
So I'm guessing we'll have to wait and see what happens on Wednesday!

Welcome, tufty, but remember to search:
It's been mentioned in General/Updates.

You are my hero, BriEnigma. Fantastic.
Edit: as an afterthought, is there any way of differentiating between different rooms? They all bleed into each other (in the java applet, as well as the maps).

FYI, floors 150 through 159 are completely identical. I made my own map but it's not much different from Brians. I'm gonna work on coloring/numbering it next.
EDIT: I posted my map to the wili anyway: http://wiki.incognitus.net/files/ppc/heat_sensor_map_wf.html
No color yet, but I'm working on it.

Awesome work! I'd like to propose that everyone (on Unfiction, at least) that is using this app should load in your .props file. That will make it waaaayyyy easier for us to be sure we are referring to the same persons, places, and things.

Slightly better maps, complete with room/lift names are now at: http://perplexcitycardcatalog.com/notes/heatsensors2/
The only problem currently is that the door sprites (and a couple of corners) do not quite line up with the walls, but I think that is forgivable. Well, that, and the files are a little large.
The room/lift labels make use of some CSS DHTML stuff, so you will need a somewhat modern browser to see them.
