Hello. New gal in town. Be gentle.

I was a big seaQuest fan, at least for the first two seasons, so when I saw the UEO I immediately thought, "United Earth Organization? seaQuest?" (I forgot the "oceans" part of the acronym).

There WAS some time travel on seaQuest--once, ten years into their future, to the year 2032. They've also gone back to 1962, and forward 225 years. I don't recall any mention of the year 2052.

If this IS seaQuest-related, then our friend would likely be communicating via sonar -- which does indeed use frequencies ("You're the one who jumped on my freq.").

I can't remember if they refered to locations as "sectors". A quick Google shows that the seaQuest video game did have something called sectors. And I could see the ocean being divided into sectors. But I'm pretty sure countries and dry land were refered to with their original names.

There's enough here that makes me think this MIGHT be seaQuest related, but I'm still skeptical--mostly because of the date. It doesn't match up to anything from the show.

Oh, it does. Google it or check the first link I posted. But it's unconfirmed, because I can't find it mentioned anywhere else.
Except there's something on Scifimatter about something called "Defiant" which is described as "Fan fiction virtual series based on the world of SeaQuest DSV. The year is 2052.[..]".
Apparently they pick actors of their choice who could star in that virtual spin-off.
The link leads to the Defiant mainpage .
But it's dating some ways back already.

I guess it has nothing to do with all this, but confirms the relevance of 2052.

snorlison arg: Hello.
a676 F64: Hello.
snorlison arg: How've things been going on your end?
a676 F64: Strange...just when I think I'm beginning to understand some of this, I'm thrown off again.
snorlison arg: What happened?
snorlison arg: Didja finally translate the communication from the future?
snorlison arg: What's the spread of times on the communication with the past?
a676 F64: Well, I had a hunch that I could only come in contact with different timelines at certain times...
at first it seemed to come at predictable intervals, but the patterns aren't holding up anymore.
Either they're changing, or the times were just coincidence.
snorlison arg: Strange.
snorlison arg: I wonder if anyone else from your time can contact our past.
snorlison arg: I would assume so, but you're the only one I know of.
a676 F64: Are you kidding? It's happening all over the world.
snorlison arg: Not for 2005.
snorlison arg: At least, not yet anyway :S
snorlison arg: The spread seems to be widely diverse geologically, but nothing major enough to make the news.
a676 F64: Strange.
snorlison arg: Indeed.
snorlison arg: Maybe 2005 is on the outlying fringes of whatever the phenomena is.
snorlison arg: Perhaps there's a temporal center, a place where the time bleeds are the worse.
snorlison arg: Idle speculation, that is.
a676 F64: Possibly...but why is this happening at all?
snorlison arg: Any success on decoding those future transmissions?
snorlison arg: Either the
snorlison arg: Either they're are as confused as we are, or those transmissions could hold the explanations we want.
a676 F64: Those turned out to be hoaxes.
snorlison arg: Ah.
snorlison arg: *sigh* People will never learn, will they?
snorlison arg: So, from your perspective, all the communications are from the past?
a676 F64: Yes.
snorlison arg: Are they all from the same time, ie Late August 2005 - or is there a spread of dates?
a676 F64: 1935, 1956, and 2005
snorlison arg: Weird.
snorlison arg: How many distinct people have you contacted?
a676 F64 signed off at 11:47:15 PM.

I was soooo tempted to bring up seaQuest. I can't help but feel we're missing something here. Maybe next time it'll be wise to bring up seaQuest.

If anything dont bring it up directly, cause bringing it up at all could ruin the fun. IMO

ok this totally rocks, excuse the overenthused rambling but i grew up watchin seaQuest and I don't remember any of it except that the plot twists and undersea politics were soooooo cool !!!!!!!!

Ok rant over lol

Can't wait for this to kick off properly!
Perhaps asking for some more history, very recent history to our future buddy, to compare to the SeaQuest DSV backstory would be smart? It allows the PMs to subtly confirm or deny our suspicions about the setting.

I think this has very strong parallels to the award winning underwater sci-fi animated series Sealab 2021. Theres even a strange boy-dolphin thing too!!

It's definitely using content from seaQuest DSV.
I checked the username, but came up with nothing. Perhaps it's just random.
If someone wants to steer the discussion to seaQuest they should perhaps try to use information from the episode guide. Bring up some character names (preferably from third season because that's the one taking place in 2052...they did a 10-year-jump for each season, right).
Who is U.E.O. and why does it sound like it's "bad" in their time. While at that topic one could slip in the question if they have a website (as if it was accessible in our time...). Rolling Eyes

Btw, the name "Decks" doesn't come up in any seaQuest search.

There's a Derek Webster, but it's a real name and he's only a guest star.

No, they only did a ten-year jump between the second season and the first season of the retooled seaQuest DSV.

The end of the first season had the seaQuest being destroyed to save... something I don't remember. The UEO had the resources to build it again, and so the seaQuest was back for the second season, which was only a few years after the first season - not a ten-year jump.

The end of the second season saw the seaQuest and her crew being abducted by aliens (yes, you read that right) to fight for them. Turns out they can fly through space, but they had no reason to develop undersea technology, so they'll just take it from humans. The aliens had gotten themselved involved in a war on an aquatic planet, and need a submarine to lay some smack down. The seaQuest was the most advanced, most powerful human submersible, hence the aliens choice as their weapon. In the course of fighting for the aliens it seemed everyone died when the seaQuest was yet again destroyed.

Then, out of no where, the crew of the seaQuest starts showing up, they haven't aged, it's ten years later (2032), and the seaQuest ends up in some farm in Iowa.

The destruction of the seaQuest was faked, I think, as part of some weird alien politicking thingamabob, but those same concerns meant it took that long to get the crew and the seaQuest back to Earth.

Regarding the ten years seaQuest was gone, turns out the UEO didn't have enough money to make ANOTHER seaQuest. With the loss of their flagship/icon/figurehead the UEO's fragile control of the oceans fell apart, and a bunch of little sea nations sprung up. Hence the wars of 2030.

The final season of seaQest ends with the boat still intact (finally) but the emergence of some new undersea threat with advanced technology that threatens the very existance of the UEO, or something like that.

L.

That was a very nice insight into the show. Apparently, it sucks a lot. Laughing
So, nothing about 2052, then? The episode guide had that wrong?
But 2052 is definitely center of fan fiction out there.
In the show there are wars in exactly 2030, is that right?
