Shouldnt the creators of the ARG decide what are appropriate behaviors for their game? Until all is revealed you can never really be sure what is necessary and what isnt, correct?

If this is, in fact, an ARG, there is a countdown driving its completion. So while i agree the preferred route is the satsifaction of dscovery without assistance, if we arent 'getting it' fast enough they may need ot help move things along before the next update in a day or two.

Lastly, if this response is inappropriate becuase it ALSO dirties up the thread, then my apologies in advance and i'll quit it. Smile

META posts rarely are consider dirty (and when they are they usually get split off to the META section of the boards were people can discuss things more in depth). And since there isn't much going on here now...

PMs do have the right to do what the want with their games ... on their own sites. Unfiction is a privately owned site with its own set of standards - standards which have been explicitly defined numerous times. The central theme of these standards is "Unfiction is 100% Out-Of-Game". This allows the players a place to play the game free from PM interference. The members of this board understand this fact and rely on it. Any hint of PM inteference on these boards is basically a slap in the face to us since they obviously do not respect the rules that we live by.

Whether or not Dinx is a PM remains to be seen. But at the very least Dinx is a troll who doesn't respect us.

And since I see you've replied during my preview:

Are these universal ARG guidelines or are they peculiar to this community?
About the only thing you could consider being an "unverisal guideline" are the 10 Commandments of ARGs. Other than that, the rules of Unfiction are not going to be the same as the rules of Immersion Unlimited which are not going to be the same as the rules of an in-game board (except, of course, not to be a troll).

Hell, and Phae beat me to the punch. But it took me 10 minutes to write this in between phone calls and I'm posting anyway.

Actually, your post was much better -- more concise and more broadly informative. Very Happy

Actually, the rules are the same. From this lovely post by SpaceBass (you know, the guy that makes the rules?)
SpaceBass wrote:
Um, yes you can. It's okay to be a PM and post to the forum anywhere other than, or about, your own game. Posting in-character or in threads about your own game are strictly forbidden. There are few rules here but this one is hard and fast and if it is broken, there is a strong likelihood of bannination. This rule was most emphatically NOT made to be broken.

Just because you find it, doesn't mean it relates to a specific game.

Fardo NL wrote:
Fact is that the coordinates where found... Fact is the coordinates are located in Tokyo ... Fact is the building with the MS circle of Light was found in Tokyo
Fact is, Dinx is a troll. Either it's a PM who cares nothing about the rules or it's someone who wants people to think that they know something. Either way, it's sad and pathetic.

edit: Holy big red text krystyn! Very Happy

Could it be this building coordinates found in www.origenxbox360.com

OK. I read through the article which accompanies the "circle of light" building pictures. The guy who wrote it is as baffled as we are. The building site is near Omotesando (a major shopping road/district). The mark has been put on the scaffolding surrounding a building which just started construction. Apparently this image was put up very recently. He wonders what the building is going to be. I can tell you there is a big Microsoft building only couple of train stops away (10min) in the Shinjuku district. If this is going to be a Microsoft building then I would imagine it will be a retail boutique type place on the ground floor and officies above like a lot of the places along Omotesando.

Here is a link for the location of this new building.
Google Maps
Unfortunately the map is in Japanese but the address is Tokyo-to Minato-ku KitaAoyama 3-11. I have no idea how to translate that into a GPS coordinate though. Anyone able to do that?

Cool! Well It's probably OOG because the buildings on those coordinates look older... But I still don't know if the coordinates are real or OOG

It's probably a coincidence that both location are situated in Tokyo?

No disrespect intended. My apologies if any was inferred. There are a few of us who have been meeting "behind closed doors" so to speak. In an effort to honor the rules here (by not blurting out what has become obvious to me), I was apparantly too cryptic.

I think that too much was made of boysaketeras\'J.

The forum was started by a player (innocently). He believed that was what we were supposed to do.

Sarge then popped up and started speaking in a way we expect a PM to play. He screwed up, though. Users tracked him down through a Yub.com account. Since then, the Yub.com account was changed to become Anonymous.

Also, Sarge convinced a small group of us to meet in alternate ways. We were instructed to eliminate the "ancient communication" (boyskater forum).

We allowed ourselves to believe we were being deputized by the PMs to assist with the game.

Further analysis of Sarge by the group indicated some pretty interesting tells. He created a blog at MSN Spaces which we used to communicate. He also posted a standalone image of the bunny which, upon first glance, looked legit.

I took a close look at his bunny and the Origen (real) bunny and noticed that it he hadn't Photoshopped it perfectly. There were little chunks missing from the bunny including part of its front foot, its tail, its nose, etc. Just a few pixels here and there, but noticable if you take a close look.

It is also believed that Sarge planted a collaborator in our midst posing as a "real player" to enhance the illusion.

The truth is, though, that this ISN'T an ARG. It's marketing. A small group on the inside (or even walking the circumference) doesn't make sense.

So, there you have it...

I could have waited for the next clue to expose our malefactor, but the truth is, he made too many mistakes.

The game is just beginning, my friends... and we are all the same.

Hey,

Dit something:

DeCompiled the SWF file with Sothink SWF Decompiler
Hex edited (also with sothink)

http://xombouw.nl/pics/origen360-1.jpg
edit: Removed image tag because I don't like pictures that make the screen scroll - Rowan

Found this name: Magritte

A search at google shows the name of Rene Magritte, a painter.

One of the first pictures showen by google:

(uh, the apple ???? )

A dutch website shows the text:
"Ik schilder niet, ik gebruik voorwerpen die mijn beelden weergeven. Ik ben geen kunstschilder die mooie kleuren op doek zet of iets voor het oog maakt. Ik breng het denken in beeld en maak daardoor iets mysterieus."

translated (i hope Wink )

"I do not paint, I use objects who shown my images. I am not an art painter who paint's beautiful colours on 'white sheet'(no translation for this) or make something to show the eye. I make the thinking as an image and of that making something mysterious."

Rene Margritte

(sorry for my bad english, maybe someone can make a better translation)

It's okay, you're new. Just read the rules next time. Smile

And there aren't any rules against "blurting out" what you know, unless you are a PM. If you have reason to believe other players may consider it some sort of spoiler, well,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
put it in [.spoiler][./spoiler] brackets (without the . -- that's just there so the forum doesn't read those as actual tags. Smile

/me points you to the Beast, Ilovebees, Sable & Shuck, Art of the H3ist....

Many ARGs are marketing.

But I agree that this doesn't look like one of them.

On the Game Conference in Leipzig the xbox speaker was wearing this t-shirt ... This shirt is similair to the shirt J Allard was wearing on E3 for a tease of Ourcolony.net

Yes it is a marketing game .. But so was A.I. and I Love Bees

This is another clue that origenxbox360.com is a game not an ARG

Okay, another thing we do here, just as a courtesy, is not to quote entire long posts unless we have good reason too.

If you're replying to different parts of the post, quote the segment to which you are responding, and only that segment, before each response.

If you're responding briefly to the entire HUGE-*SS post, as you did above, don't quote the entire thing, please. Just put a <snip> where the meat of the post was, if you feel you need to quote it in order for it to be clear to whom you're replying. Smile Or just reply without quoting.

Wow, this thread is becoming like a tutorial!

1. I don't see why any of that means it can't be an ARG
2. What exactly is the difference between a Marketing Game and an ARG
3. Why can this be a game, but not an ARG

How will this help the Game ... I think it's a game ... because of the different clues ... the others could discuss ... what to do in the turtorial thread?

When necessary, yes.

oliverkeers13 wrote:

The reason it appears not to be an ARG is that there has been, as far as I can tell, no in-game signal to let us know that it will become one. As of right now, there are no characters and no plot. Ergo it's not at this point an ARG, and there's nothing to indicate it may become one. However, that doesn't exclude the possibility that it will become one, or that we are missing the signal.

oliverkeers13 wrote:

Nothing. An ARG can be used for marketing. However, companies can also do things like Our Colony that are ARG-ish, but not really ARGs. They can also do games that aren't remotely ARGish. Just because it has puzzles does not mean that it is an ARG. ARGs have stories.

oliverkeers13 wrote:

I'm afraid I don't understand the question.

So many....ellipses....becoming...dizzy.... Razz

It's definitely a game. But something can be a game without being an ARG. Like checkers. Or Bejeweled.

Other than that, I'm afraid I don't understand the question.
