It sounds to me like we need to find out where the advisor is before tomorrow.
Let's get cracking, people!

VoIP services (like Skype and Vonage ) make it pretty cheap, though.

after the message about the line opening (on the UK number at least) there is a beep. Anyone tried leaving a message or entering any test PIN numbers anything like that?

I have no idea if the calls will be worth recording, but just in case, it is pretty simple. On a Mac, you can use Skype (specifically, their SkypeOut service, which is €0.017/minute) in conjunction with Audio Hijack Pro . There are instructions for setting it up all over Google because that is how Podcasters record shows when the hosts are in different locations. Here is one that looked to be short and simple.
In the Windows world, I am sure there are equivalent recording solutions that work with Skype. In the Linux world... bah, well, you're using Linux, so I'm sure you could just whip up a driver to tee off of /dev/dsp and spool the output to your Beowulf cluster. Or something.
One note on Audio Hijack Pro: it's shareware and "free" if your recording is less than 10 minutes. After that, they start adding nasty static to the recoding.
Edit: I am told that Virtual Audio Cable and FreeCorder are both viable Windows alternatives to the Mac-only Audio Hijack Pro.

It pleases me that they have a number for the US as well as the UK. I've been worried that living in the US would lower my chances for winning this thing (which are pretty low already) because the cube would be located somewhere in London or something. But them having a separate number just for the US makes me think they plan to make this race a fair one. Hopefully the cube will be buried in some random 3rd world country that everyone will need a plane ticket to reach.

i dont see how people are gonna find it if its in another country, unless they email mindcandy qith a location and their account details. I dont think you actually have to phisically hand it into mind candy head quaters in London, cos that wouldnt be fair, on the other hand that would be good for me I could jus wait outside and nab it off someone as they walked past

Just to let people know there's been a slight change to the details. They've now listed the access times as being 5:20pm BST to 7pm BST (rather than GMT). Interestingly, as the discussion as to what they _actually_ meant by GMT was only really held in IRC, it means Big Puppet is watching us
Message changed both on recording and website.

I'm confused now. (which is quite easy to do!!) BST = GMT + 1 so does that mean that for us in the UK the lines are active at 6:20pm to 8pm?? or are they just being silly and it will physically be 5:20pm to 7pm?
Another way to record the calls is use a pbx server. I've got access to an asterisk@home box connected to the PSTN (public switched telephone network) so I can record both incoming and outgoing calls.
Am I missing something (I await trouted goodness if I'm wrong) but what's the main goal of this exercise? What do we want from the live tech support?? If there are numerous things then maybe a list should be posted so that different groups can concentrate on different tasks...(Awaits incoming trout...)

<snip>
BST = British Summer Time, so it is just them being specific. It runs from 5.20 - 7pm.

The UK is currently in BST. That means British Summer Time. It's also called GMT + 1. If you are living in the UK, the lines will be open from 5:20 to 7 on your watch (assuming your watch is right).
Those living in the states, good luck You've such a crazy random selection of timezones and summer time observation that I'm suprised you know what time to get out of bed sometimes.

For the US, this is 1220-1400 EDT, or 0920-1100 PDT. Everyone in between can figure it out from there!
