No, it still is. Only you have now told us that screwing us is an essential part of their business model.

ok just got back from putting my reserve on the 360 and the collectors edition of PD:0. the guy at gamestop said he doesnt know anything about only selling the bundles. he told me that hes almost positive that the bundles are an online exclusive and that you can still just buy the system without a bundle.

Put the money in savings instead. That way you'll earn interest on it, and will still have it around when you need it to buy it. Wink

(Sure, it won't be MUCH interest, but 1) that's what savings accounts are for, and 2) if you get in the habit, you'll be able to apply that philosophy to other purchases in the future, thereby creating a practice of financial responsibility. That, and that interest does add up.)

I'd do that but me and the local bank don't exactly see eye to eye. There was the problem about their internet banking service, the fact that they told me it was instantanous when I used my card at their Atms, but then occasionally a deposit or ATN withdrawel (sp?) had the bad luck of taking 3 or 4 days to appear, I think the record was almost a week n half. Censored Over the 6 months I kept an account there it probably cost me a good 500$ in overdraft fees because I couldn't ever wait for them to finish transferring my pay check because I needed gas to get to work else I'd be fired. Twisted Evil I got about half of that back because I bitched at them about being slow as hell. I'd still much rather keep my money in my pocket then trust that bank again.
Oh and Ps, for any of you still going to preorder the Xbox 360, the minimum cash to put down at Eb games is 50$, news to me.

Yeah, they told me that when I tried to put down just $20... what I usually deposit for games and the like. Meh, may as well put down as much as I could at each pay-check anyway. I'll only spend it otherwise. Rolling Eyes
(yes, it will be bought well before release)

As of today I have $90 on the console and $5 on PDZ. Adding another $100 today or tomorrow.

I will probably blow all but 50$ of my next paycheck on the Xbox 360, Oblivion and PD0:LE, so that should be about 200-250, somewhere around there, and I'll only need another 200$ to put into it.

Some more news hitting the shelves today.

First off, from Gamespot, we have the following:

Gamestop.com wrote:
According to both (EB Games and Gamespot), a one-month subscription card to Xbox Live Gold will run gamers $7.99. That's a $2 increase over the one-month subscription to the original Xbox Live. It's as bare-bones as one can get, offering just admission into Gold, and is likely aimed at gamers who purchase the Xbox 360 package that already comes bundled with a headset who just want to get their feet wet in Live.

The next step up, the three-month options, begin the bundle opportunities. For $19.99, gamers can save roughly $4 on the purchase of three one-month cards and can buy a three-month subscription card. Or they can opt for the bundle (EB Games labels it the "Value Pak," while GameStop calls it the "Gold Kit") for $39.99, which includes a headset, a $10 rebate on a game, a copy of Joust from the Xbox Live arcade, and 100 marketplace points. By comparison, a current three-month subscription with just a headset also retails for $39.99.

The final tier of Xbox Live Gold options gives gamers a full year to enjoy online fragging. A 12-month subscription to Gold will cost $49.99 from both retailers, but EB Games is doing GameStop one better by making it a baker's dozen and including an extra month for free. The bundles vary slightly between the two retailers. Both include the year subscription, a headset, 200 marketplace points, and a $20 game rebate, but EB offers the Billiards Xbox Live arcade game, and GameStop once again offers Joust. These prices aren't much different from current Xbox Live prices. $49.99 will also net gamers 12-months on Xbox Live, and for $20 more, they can also get a headset and a preselected game.

Microsoft previously revealed that current Xbox Live subscribers will be able to transfer over their accounts to the new Xbox Live (often referred to as Xbox Live 2.0), but the actual nuts and bolts of that transition have not been detailed.

Microsoft has not officially announced any pricing for the next generation of Xbox Live. Attempts to contact the company went unanswered as of press time.

So good news for most of us that play regularly... the price hasn't changed a whole lot (yet.)

And from IGN we have a possible release date for the 360.

IGN.com wrote:
Microsoft plans to launch the Xbox 360 as late as Friday, November 25, the day after Thanksgiving, with software potentially hitting shelves earlier that week, sources from three US retailers told IGN today.

The three retail chains, all of whom independently pointed to Friday, November 25, as the hardware launch day, received email describing launch data late Monday. Launch day games have been re-assigned from early November to Monday, November 22, as potential first day ship dates. When contacted, Microsoft would not confirm or deny the information. In previous official announcements, Microsoft has said Xbox 360 will vaguely launch this fall.

Why the late date? Microsoft is hoping to give developers as much time as possible to finish and polish their games while simultaneously shipping their concave new box during the most active day in North America. Additionally, independent sources have told IGN that final dev kits haven't replaced the mid-summer beta kits, which has added to developers' frustrations.

Game developers, analysts, and retailers have all been unofficially told by Microsoft that November is the launch month, but even as late as today, when IGN phoned a handful of teams, they were still uncertain of a concrete date. Retailers, have thus far, provided shifting and often conflicting information, but rarely do their dates or numbers match up as evenly as this data.

Is that too late for Microsoft? Hardly. In the current generation, the PS2 was the earliest to launch on October 26, 2000, while Nintendo and Microsoft launches their systems on Sunday November 18, and Thursday November 15, respectively.

A bit later than expected, and kind of annoying that you'll have to wait till AFTER thanksgiving to get it, instead of using that holiday to just relax and game. The good news is that you won't have to worry about getting up the next morning if they do midnight sales. Although that's already "black friday", so this is just going to make things that much worse at your local gaming shops. I'm not looking forward to braving those crowds, if that is infact the launch date.

/me is glad he lives in Canada where Thanksgiving falls on an earlier date. (2nd Monday in Oct. - same as your Columbus Day)

No huge line-ups for me, although the releasing of the 360 pretty much guarantees that my local EB will be chocker, but the rest of the mall will be fairly empty.
