[UPDATE] The Scarlett Kite - September 8th

Quote:
More cool stuff Very Happy
Category: me, 10:38 AM

Another cool piece of news from Mind Candy Smile. They want to get more people from Earth involved in the search for the Cube (naturally!) so they have a clever idea - they're going to give away some cards to you guys who read my blog, so that you can put them in interesting locations where they might be found. You know, leave them on tables in cafes, on the train, in your school or library.... I'm sure you can come up with some better ideas than that! So, the people who email me with their addresses and the best ideas for where they're going to put the cards will receive a package, free, to distribute. Mind Candy will only send out a package to one person in each city, though, so you'd better be original! Looking forward to hearing your crazy, creative ideas! Very Happy

Still, if you're the only player in your town/city (or possibly island Very Happy), I believe the term "in the money" is appropriate!

Now all I need is a decent place to seej off them cards...

(Major deja vu of the Ad competition... but I'll actually do this one, promise!)

Hmmm. I wonder if MC is only accepting good ideas, or is it possible for someone living in some remote place (like me, for example) to just submit a lame idea (like... I dunno... Placing cards in people's mailboxes?) and still 'win' for the simple fact that he/she is the only entrant from his/her city?

Well, it's time to put on my thinking cap and get some good ideas! I may be the only one in my city, but that situation could change soon... or not... never mind anyway. Confused

Sure it can be. All you've got to do is suggest some really out-there places. I've done the following (as well as trains/cafes/books/etc.), but suggested none to MC so feel free to nick them (first come first served):

  • Jam the corner into that gap between the mirror and the wall in some pub/bar toilets.
  • Under car windscreen wipers (N.B. check that it's not going to rain first).
  • Left in sympathetic comic-book shops where they know me, giving the staff instructions to give the card to the next person to buy anything.
  • Left with the flyers for DJs/bands/clubs in trendy clothes stores or independant music stores.

You could also steal a trick from the hare-krishna's and hand them out at airports or city-centres (though people are more likely to just bin them if you do this) EDIT: Ooooh, just had a thought - you could dress as a cubist when you do this and quote from the Brotherhood website. If you're super-artistic then why not paint one really big on a wall (a wall you own of course, because graffitti is all wrong and bad and stuff....).

I also like to cut the sticky-bit off a post-it, write a URL on it that will help noobs and a little message (and a smiley face so they don't think I'm mental) and stick that to the card.

BTW, I've hit 3 cities and a few other places so far, and I'm not telling where Smile

'A package'. I read that as 1 pack of cards and suggested six different locations for each cards. Back to the drawing board I guess. Crying or Very sad

Well, if we're reminiscing about times of old, I used to write all over paper money little teasers and the URL. Then I found out it was illegal:
Currency Notes (Jersey) Law 1959 wrote:
If any person prints or stamps or by any like means impresses on any bank note or currency note any word, letters, or figures, the person shall, in respect of each offence, be liable to a fine not exceeding £1.

OK, so not a massive fine, but enough to scare my parents into forcing me to promise never to do it again... (Feel free to try it yourself though - if you're brave enough Rolling Eyes)

Anyways, so I failed miserably Smile Anyone else have any stories while we're here?

Weee-ell...it does depend a little bit on two factors. Firstly - "package" - are we talking about a pack of six, sixty, or six hundred? Just handing them out to random people on the street, or dropping them all over your local generic coffee house chain seems...um, a little too hit-or-miss, and more than just a little wasteful.

I think that we need to be a little smarter about it, play the odds in our favour - try and make sure that each card gets into the hands of someone who is more likely to be interested, intrigued and sufficiently hooked that they'll make the link between reading a card and checking the PerplexCity website, than the average citizen. From what I understand in my limited time here so far, ARG marketing is viral, relying heavily upon the enthusiasm of it's participants to involve others. I can testify to this - I ordered from Firebox within an hour of finding Perplexcity, once I had my cards, I then ordered up another eight packs for my better half as a present. Then we spent five hours on Sunday evening sat around, trying to puzzle out the various cards with four other people.

So..um, what are we looking for? People who are internet-savvy. Even better is to hit people while they are at work, so they can go straight from the card, via their workstation, to the website - all the while telling their colleagues all about this odd card which they found stuck to the notice board/coffee machine/their head while they napped at their desk.

People who enjoy puzzles - heck, these days, it seems as if almost everyone has read The Da Vinci Code...so, how about a liberal sprinkling of cards inside the books on the obligatory "Dan Brown/Da Vinci/Angels and Demons/Art of the Da Vinci Code/Secrets of the Da Vinci Code/When Da Vinci's Attack III/Bride of the Wife of FrankenVinci" displays in bookshops.

Secondly, "One per city" - is this any City? Or just one per city in which MC have retailers already, i.e. in the UK, it'll just be London. Also, what about people who don't live in cities? Or those who could hit more than one city?

Will probably revisit this in the morning and think.."what the heck was I talking about?" so please excuse the stream of consciousness ramblings,

J

P.S. Even without a card package, I'm sure we can all help - this weekend I was going to take a pair of scissors to the silver foil card packaging, and just cut out the shiny Perplexcity.com pictures for distribution.
