Thanks for everyone's input so far! So what I've gathered from the discussion so far is that we are all FOR making a 1.1 Machinima.

I don't mind working as an initial coordinator (deceide who's doing what at the beggining) but as I said previously it will be up to someone with the hardware (video capture) and more time than I have to make this really happen. Please submit your name if you wish to be that person.

The next step would be to begin planning. In order to keep all this information in one place I will be updating my initial post. I will try to post a message whenever I update the initial post. I will only make updates when decisions are final on the direction we are going.

UPDATED INITAL POST

I would like to shy away from having different colored spartans as I think the icons would be enough for identification purposes. Of course on H1 there were no icons so if we go with using H1 we will HAVE to use different colors for distinction. We could always incoporate that into the storyline and have them different colors, MARK V Armor, and then say they found the MARK VI armor at a later time. This could be a a part of the character/group development for the 1.1s as they progress from a hodgepodge group (We use Halo 1, each different color) to a more organized, military group (We use Halo 2, icons).

Can someone dig up as many names of the 1.1s as we can find? Not everyone will be in agreement on what the code names of the 1.1s should be, so I would like to put together a small group to discuss such things. If you're interest PM me.

Any ideas on a secure locations where we can keep ideas and hold dicussions? Incit, Is WeLoveBees open for our use?

The XBConnect idea would solve a lot of the problems. Good idea Fugitive.

I guess Im still kindof unsure what you are thinking on how to make the thing work. if you are useing H1, then we collective can not participate in the creation of the thing as H1 is not live. I thought you were talking about some thing similar to what we did with COPS useing H2 on live (yes yes incit I know you hated the thing but it was fun to make).

I'd like to offer up my assistance where I'm able. Like Grifter, my time isn't so abundant to be a key cog in this project, but I've got services and skills that might be helpful.

  1. I've experience with writing scripts. I can adapt whatever treatment TheBruce comes up with and/or add some flavor. My specialties are dialogue writing and contemporary dramatic writing
  2. I can do some video editing. What I have isn't robust (Pinnacle Studio), but it does a good job. If whoever's in charge takes care to "label" dailies so that the editors know the scenes they're dealing with, the editing work could be handed out to a number of individuals and not just one person.
As for my take on the look of the Spartan 1.1's. I'd prefer the same color... in fact, I'd prefer something similar to what MC uses, as it's a combat-environment appropriate color. Since this is set on Earth, olive, green, brown, grey or black would be most appropriate.

It could work fairly easily into the storyline that the armor is found by the 1.1's in Mombasa and put to use. The only problem with that, story-wise, is that I thought the Spartan armor was supposedly only useable after extensive procedures to the 1.0's bodies (see: Fall of Reach). How the 1.1's just manage to slip it on and use it might be another aspect of the story that needs to get fleshed out. Maybe they're not so good with the armor and that's part of the story's momentum.

Something else... Wouldn't it be nice to SEE Durga like we saw Cortana? If so, we'd need someone with some 3D modeling and animation experience, or at least someone with some chroma-key capabilities and a chick in a leotard. Wink

It brings to the forefront other issues of "content." Are the assets in Halo 2 multiplayer enough to pull this off? How much post-production editing and special effects will be needed? I suppose most of that is dictated by the skills of those on-hand and the direction of the script.

are there any games for PC that offer customizable models that have an engine that's close to Halo 2's "look"? this way we could film out of armor scenes by using player models that are just regular people in "street clothes"

Halo PC? It DOES have that custom editor if you can figure out how to use it Razz

im also available for capturing video. im not the greatest editor but i could capture the raw footage and possibly send it to some one with a bit more experience. i just need to know when we plan on filming so i can move my xbox. so im thinking now we should try and find a free forum site somewhere to discuss all aspects of this project. instead of one thread on different topics. ill go look for one now. but im definitely getting pumped up for doing this. and like i said im up for acting/voice acting/video editing/anything else that needs to be done. but right now i think we need more of a private place where we can have multiple topics...

im looking now...

EDIT: found one

http://s13.invisionfree.com/ILB_Machinima/index.php

you may have to register, and its very sloppily and hastily put together. if someone wants to create a new one feel free to do so. or if someone wants to tinker with this one let me know. because i have no idea what im doing.

Vector, Xbox connect is the exact same thing as Live except it was a free open hack used on the games that weren't xbox live capable, including Halo 1. Basically it tricked your xbox, using your computer, into thinking that, even though some one was far far away, they were actually system linked to you. Worked pretty well actually. It wouldn't be too hard to film there, I'm not sure if you could do co-op ove rit or not though, so prolly only Multi maps.

I've got a reasonable amount of experience shooting and editing footage, I'm pretty up to date with Haloisms, and I'm fairly knowledgeable regarding ilb as well. If you have anything for me to do, I'm up for it.

H2 is the only/best way we can collectivley participate. I would hate to move out of that box because then we're sacrafising some good talent and allot of keeping participants. I'd rather us stick to XBL and do what RT does and what we have done in the past with vids like "Brain Ninjas" and "Cops"
Speaking of which...
We all had fun doing that one, We learned a bit from that vid too.

First and foremost, large groups of people in which many have nothing to do, will always fail to remain orderly.
So keep the filming parties tight, and make sure everyone has a part to play.

Second, the cameraman/editor cannot fail to budget time correctly. If he puts off this and that for a final added scene and then tries to rush everything, the vid quality will take a critical hit.
So let the man/woman do his/her job, but make sure that person doesn't start wasting time for ultimatly redundant footage. the best solution to this is to have more than one editor so that work may be double checked, the workload spread out more fairly, and ultimatly so that we have a better product in the end.

Thats partly why I ditched the remaining scenes and began cutting "Sketch Comedy 1" while sending prelim cuts to rendon. Also why we made sure that the stuff included was going to be funny to 99% of us.

Speaking of which i hope to have that baby polished and up for your collective viewing pleasure by wednsday.

But I'm all for a H2 Machinima, My machine cannot support HCE(PC) and My WIFI would kill a shot at XBC, so if you guys choose to go that route, I'll sit it out and watch from the sidelines. Smile

Wow! I leave for a few days and look what happens. If we decide to do this I'm all for it, school will be taking up most of my time now but, I'll try to get on as often as possible. I volunteer my services as a bad voice actor, capturer, and technical advisor for Halo 2. As in how to get a scene (what it would take to make it work and look the best) and what glitch or place to stand would work best for it. I'd volunteer for editing but don't have the time, I have a video of a friend that feel asleep in a room and we did bad things to him a number of weeks back and just haven't had the time to get it done. Also, I have a concern about the voice acting. None of us sound like Durga or Jan or anyone from ILBs so that, in my mind, would make the story a bit off.

Edit: As for the names appearing above the heads of the Spartans, they won't if you drop all of your weapons. In Halo CE how they had no names is they use a space as their name, if they needed more than on person in the game to not have a name above their head and they where using the same box they named one space and the other one space space etc.

Of course keep in mind that you'd probably end up having to limit yourself to the non-Halo maps if you were going to film anything. It would seem very odd to me if everyone and their mother ended up on the ring.

So that pretty much gives you the following:
Ivory Tower
Midship
Waterworks
Headlong
Foundation
Turf
Terminal
Elongation

You could always turn off shields, and we can all assume they're older MJOLNIR suits.

Or we may just not look into the sky...

You'd have to do some damn good editing to edit out the skyline, or Penitent Tangent on Backwash. I mean, on maps like Relic or Sanctuary, you'd be hard pressed to not get that ring in there.
