poem

There's an (or actually multiple) English translation of the poem (http://vaporlofts.com/schreber/personal/poem.txt), here:

http://fleursdumal.org/poem/225

It's taken from "The flowers of evil".

Interesting, considering the flower pictures in the "personal" directory. Also, this is the second time we got pointed towards a poem from that collection.

I tried translating that myself but got bored, so cheers Very Happy

The flowers in the pic I posted before seem like they're arranged deliberately, or maybe that's just me, I'm not sure.

Also, has anyone deciphered the text on the third floorplan?

Sorry if you have, I've read through but I'm stupidly disorganised and have probably missed something.

Maybe someone could change the Topic from "possible trailhead" to "trailhead"?

We're pretty sure it's an ARG, at this point, aren't we? Smile

Phaedra, I'd have to agree.

flowers.jpg looks funny because there's text pasted into the picture's coding, a la the Sleeping Princess's puzzles in ILB. Open the file in notepad or another text editor; you'll see it towards the bottom.

The Faerie Window

When we were little, Jenna and I would spend the weekend with our grandmother, and we always liked to sleep in the attic. There was an old twin-sized bed up there, and even though we had to give the mattress a thorough check for spiders and moths, there was nothing better than curling up underneath the array of Christmas lights we had arranged along the beams of the roof while Gran made up bedtime stories for us.

There was a round decorative window in the wall above the bed, and if we were on the bed upside down, we could look out of the window at the sky and the branches of the tremendous oak tree beside the house. Gran called the window a Faerie Window, and being easily impressed little girls, we loved all of the stories that she would tell us about how the window led to fantastic lands and places that we otherwise would never be able to get to. She would look to the window with a bittersweet look that I recognized even then for some mysterious sadness that it contained, then smile at us and wink, telling us that the secret of the window was just for the three of us. Now that I'm older, I sometimes think about what she was looking out on... and what stories she wasn't telling us.

One summer night, after Gran had shared her stories with us and returned downstairs, and after Jen had fallen asleep, I stared out of that window for hours. It must have been early in the morning when I saw it, right when the sunlight first starts to change the sky from the darkest blue to gray, when everything is diminished and all of the colors are muted; maybe it was a trick of the light or my overactive imagination, but I saw one of Gran's faeries! It flew up to the window, looked into the glass, smiled at me, and we stared at each other for... minutes? Hours? Then, without warning, it was gone. The sighting and the memory seem far too real, even now, to be a dream. I don't remember dreams that I had last week, much less the ones that I had when I was a little girl!

The next afternoon, I searched the woods around the house for the faerie, which proved to be a disappointingly fruitless endeavor, and when I asked Jen if she'd ever seen anything like it, she shrugged her shoulders and said that she'd keep an eye out for them. I never really talked about it again after that, not even to Gran - I assumed that she either already knew or would think that I was just making up stories of my own.

Of course, the house has been sold since then, and it's been years since Gran was alive. Every now and then I still wonder if there are any little girls who sleep in the attic of that house, though, who stare out at the stars through the branches of the old oak tree beside the house and I wonder if maybe sometimes, if they're very special and they're awake at the right moment, they see faeries, too.

Collective Silence

Excellent news! I got the call from Vapor, Inc. a few minutes ago, and they're interested in hooking up with me for some design work. They're sending an information packet for their current renovation project along with some ideas that they have for logo and marketing design through the mail; I should get that in a couple of days. I really do hope that things work out well, a steady paycheck would be a welcome addition to my income (although it contracted work could possibly prohibit me from acting on my random whims to travel... maybe this is the green light on that Powerbook I've been eyeballing).

Not much else going on. Still doing some work for the jazz group I mentioned a couple of days ago. Those guys are really cool. Imagine a bunch of old guys with salt and pepper hair, some with long goatees or beards, who just sit around and play music all day while smoking cigars and pipes. This one guy, Moses (funny because he is one the guys with a long beard), we have drinks while discussing where their influences come from - he takes a whiskey on the rocks while I sip on a beer, and he feigns surprise that I don't go for a more "girly" drink. All of these guys are past retirement age, so this is what they do all day. Well, they also play cards and have a lot of people come in to talk to them throughout the day, but jazz and jazz talk is their primary purpose for being there, I'd say. I think that this other guy, who goes by the name of Shinpu (I don't really think this is his real name... but I have heard stranger names than that before), is the owner of the bar that we hang out at, but when I asked him, he just shrugged and sipped his cup of coffee.

Speaking of the bar, something really strange happened the other night. I had been drinking for a while, and conversation turned so that I ended up talking about this guy that I'd been involved with years ago... nothing too serious, just mentioning it. The guy was a total loser, and he a jerk, too, but for whatever reason I still tried to work it out with him at the time. Long story short, I found out a couple of months ago that he was killed in a car accident involving a drunk driver. I'm not really that upset about it and it's been years since we've even spoken. Anyway, halfway through the story, I sneezed... and at the exact same time as I sneezed, literally half of the lights in the place blew out. There was a moment of collective silence, as everyone looked around the room and ultimately ended up staring at me. It was really weird! People stared at me strangely for the rest of the night. Moses mumbled something that I couldn't understand, but he wouldn't repeat it to me. The next night, all of the bulbs had been replaced, so maybe it was just a fluctuation in the power grid and a strange coincidence. Have you ever heard of anything like that?

A little research reveals that these are entries from point_system's livejournal.

It was discussed back on Page 2. The gibberish is a ROT based upon another one of the LJ journals. The morse code alternative picture text references Vapor Lofts.

Btw, it turns out the other flower picture has text in it as well.

i'm not sure how i got here, but it is a wish come true, you know. outside of the frosted windows there is Nothing. it's the kind of Nothing that is immensely fulfilling to be surrounded by, a solitude that is welcome, unlike the Nothing that one feels when one has lost a loved one or a job or something of that sort. and then, after that, there are stars. and when i say there are stars you should think of all the stars you see every night and multiply that by at least a thousand, because i tried earlier to count them and decided that it was a bit futile.
reflection: i woke up today ( i assume it is day, and will continue to assume it is day when i wake up, and likewise will assume that it is night when i am sleepy) on the bottom bunk. today i had absolutely no idea where i was. still don't know, i guess. no one was in the top bunk, i checked first thing. then i saw the window and was so awestruck that i must have stared out into that space out there for hours. then i got hungry, so i left the room i was in, which was bare except for the two beds and the window and a switch that opened the door and an old alarm bell above that for the fire department or something. outside of the room there was an equally bare hallway that led to the door that led to the room where i am writing this now.
in this room there is a small bathtub with a shower head above it, a broken microwave oven, a toaster, a refrigerator, empty. there is a table mounted to the wall in the same manner as the beds as well as a chair, and these are beside a recessed sink with a garbage disposal that I think could eat anything that i throw into it. beside the refrigerator there is a drawer full of forks, spoons, and butter knifes.
not that i have a clue yet why all this is here, or why i am here, or where i am going, or, come to think of it, who i am even.
on that note i will retire for the evening.
oh, and by the way, (as if it wasn't obvious) there is also a desk in the room with a keyboard mounted in it and a monitor in the wall on the side opposite the shower, and the only program i can find on the screen is the word processor that i am typing in now. after playing for a moment or two with the thing i decided to keep a diary what i think of this welcome but unexpected vacation. who knows? perhaps tomorrow i will discover something new.

edit #2
The gran.jpg has been camouflaged (no password). You can pull a gran.txt out of the picture.

While googling for VaporLofts a third page - aside from the VaporLofts home page and Anne's journal - comes up which is another livejournal of a user called diary_of_a_cat . VaporLofts is listed as that user's website, but entries stop in November 2004, dating back to February of the same year.
If there is something to VaporLofts, it doesn't seem like this livejournal is connected to anything.
I went in to recheck this link, and the journal's been deleted.

Guess you found something you shouldn't have Wink

It feels like things are starting to move; that's a fair amount of content to put up in a day in relation to the pace the trail's been setting, so it feels like we're going to start picking up some momentum. I have to be honest and say that the video scared the living hell out of me, and I had the same reaction that Anne refered to in her lj entry.

Given the new developments, I went and scanned through point_system's friend list again and found that while many people didn't have "arg" or related phrases in their interests list, there were a comparable number of people with terms like "paranormal investigation," "ghosts," or "haunted houses."

Definitely some ghost story spookiness looking to pop up here.

Did anyone notice the picture text attached to the photos on the main page of http://vaporlofts.com/
* Natural replicators have all or most of their design from nonhuman sources.
*Autotrophic replicators can reproduce themselves in the wild. They mine their own materials. Usually they are designed by humans, and in particular, can easily accept specifications for human products.
* Self-reproductive systems produce copies of themselves from industrial feedstocks such as metal bar and wire.
* Self-assembling systems assemble copies of themselves from finished, delivered parts.

It just seems a little odd for a redevelopment corp.

Aye. Rowan managed to find that it's a direct quote from a Wikipedia article on Self-Replication. I still have no idea what it's supposed to signify; I pondered organic AI for a bit, but there's really no other clues as to what it pertains to.

The counter has been there for a least a day. And it is a counter - when I first saw it it was 400-something.

The counter has been there since this thread was started. And if i remember correctly it was at under 100. I have a feeling the increased traffic at the site is whats prompting this thing to get moving.

I just destegged the picture of the missed con about the camera incident found at http://vaporlofts.com/321486.html (no password needed) and pulled out a picture of a generator with some hard to read text explaining the picture...it's like a schematic drawing kind of.

I don't know how to post it, but if someone else sees this maybe they can do it. It's very strange to say the least (and hopefully no one else has mentioned this, i'm always terrified of repeat posts)
