i sent the falling email addy an email saying i belive. he sent back to me:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The older priest stood up, stroking his beard, and the younger priest next to him shuffled around in his seat, picked up a travelling bag stuffed full of papers next to him, and joined the elderly priest before me.

The first thing I really noticed was the symbol hanging from the golden chain around his neck. I've never seen anything like it before. It was in the shape of a circle, with pans of balance engraved inside of it, but it was made from a smooth crystal. And as he moved, the crystal shimmered all sorts of different colors in the sunlight... not reflections either, it was almost as if the colored lights were inside the crystal.

"Mr. Pytak, I presume? Ah yes, good to see you my boy. A pleasure to finally meet you in person," the older priest said as he shook my hand.

"Yes, not every day we get out to this small city. But when we do, we usually make it for good purposes," the younger priest continued.

"I'm sorry... um... who are you both? I wasn't expecting you," I stammered.

Not sure if this ends up being "behind-the-curtain", but the IP address 6.58.105.117 (actually, 6.*.*.*) is 'owned' by an interesting group:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
According to DNS lookup, the DNS server in charge of 6.58.105.117 is ns03.army.mil

6,56,92,104 doesn't ping
6.58.105.117 doesn't ping. All packets lost. Dead end.

And 12.114.197.221 (just a hunch, the two above added together) did ping, but it is behind a firewall somewhere in NJ.
[/spoiler]

Hey, that's a very good idea... I mean, an IP address can be really no different from a locker in some ways. Maybe we're talking about a digital locker, here... hrm...

Yes it has been: here at the very bottom of the post.

Opal. That is what it has to be... but a necklace pendant made of one? Opal is very hard to find, and it is generally very small in size... that's some major bling right there. I'll see if I can find anything on something like it.

Are you sure you don't mean mother-of-pearl?

For some reason I always imagined opals as being a flat/matte quartzy-type stone.

I stand corrected. Cool

Opal isn't really a crystal, though, in the sense of the image you usually get from the word "crystal." It's usually at least partially opaque.

Which, in my opinion, is a very good reason to say "Ok, trying to ping those IPs was a brilliant idea, but let's NOT insist on that". Smile

I'm still inclined to think thet the numbers are for a letter count. But applying the count to the texts we have (from icarus, believe and lie) does not work. Or maybe I can count, as I said before. So, 2 possibilities:
1) somebody else could try again the lettercount on these 3 texts and see if I'm really such a numeric idiot, or
2) maybe there is some other text we should try? I have no idea of what text, frankly.

Agreed. But more than anything else, I think this suits the description. I mean, you wouldn't call Opal a simple rock, either.

opals

For the record, the image posted is of black opals, which are more rare and, to me, more beautiful, than regular opals.

Most opals have the same rainbow quality, though. There are opals out there that are "milky" in color, but still reflect hundreds of colors. Though I have to agree, the opacity that black opals has that makes the colors 'float' in them does make them more beautiful.

rainbow Opal's are not hard to find at all, walk through any major Australian centre and jewellery shops are full of it - infact walk through town here in Auckland and jewellery stores are full of it. It's only rare in the states because it's found in Australia.

And it's expensive. but I myself have an opal pendant necklace, it's the staple souvenirish jewellery gift that Fathers and Husbands buy their Daughters / Wives when they go away for business to australia - maybe the reason they're so rare is cos they all get shipped to the dutyfree stores in the intl airports Smile

black opals however... those are like ridiculously rare Smile
