[SPEC] Unsecure Communication & Spies

V seems remarkably adept at intercepting our communications between PXC and Earth, perhaps he is reading the forums right now, and the spy is one of us (We know for a fact that Mind Candy read irc logs). We need a more secure means of communication about certain topics to ensure we dont get any more people killed. We can take it as a given that the third power have an arm on earth I reckon and so they must have at least some knowledge of the internet, and here we are splashing all the 'unrevealable information' all over the bloody internet, its like sticking up a big sign saying 'Kill TA' and 'This is how much we know, and how you can outsmart/manouvre us' etc...

Isn't this site strictly OOG, (not sure about IRC, but i thought it was too) so an InGame charactor cannot read it without breaking the rules.

Not sure if this is what you mean though

I'm afraid this is, as they say, pish-posh.

Unfiction is not "in-game." This means that it really isn't the done thing for PM's to treat the discussion on Unfiction as something that characters are able to access - yes, it is a public website, and therefore within the realms of realism that it's viewable to game characters, but on the other hand, it would make the collaborative dynamic totally suck ass.

In short, then, be assured that the 3rd Power and their associates are not reading UF or monitoring our IRC chats. As you were... Very Happy [/i]

Well, then, there must be a spy at the Academy Earth Data Link Monitoring Centre (or whatever the hell they call it).

I vote we see if we can get any of the characters to use an encryptalbe messaging system - something like SSL-secured IRC (which is what HackThisSite's IRC servers use).

It might take some doing to find something that's secure and at the same time accessible, but I'd wager that if it works, it'll pay off in the end.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that this is an absurd thread. I doubt Dysper could come up with such a ridiculous conspiracy theory, however I'm sure she'll prove me wrong. Wink

Or we could try a bluff/double-bluff. Tell one character that another one is doing something (which they're not - like say that Scarlett has dumped Brede and is now going out with Allain, somewhere deep in the country...), and see what happens.

I am able to provide you guys with secure IRC / TeamSpeak / damn near any other communication methods you need/want to use with each other.

If you need a new method setup, give me a scream or a simple prod on IRC.

THis is nonsens. IF the script requires people to know what we are doing, then they will find out. IF not, they won't. We can't prevent people reading what we say, and we should trust that if they can, it's for a reason. So don't bother to create a secure IRC or something, if we need to email a character, which is the only point where interception is important, then that can be intercepted. Basically, one way or another, if they want to be able to read our stuff, they can. SO GIVE UP.

Same tangohead Wink

Oliver -> I do agree to a certain extent, but maybe not so bluntly. Characters are HIGHLY unlikely to want to join IRC / Teamspeak (that we know of) - but it doesn't stop us researching possible methods in case the opportunity arises.

I simply think it would be unfair for the PMs to use what they read here as character-known information. We have to have a safe place to discuss what we find and to sort out the puzzles.

If we took it to a secure chat, then what would happen to the people who couldn't be in the chat at the right time? It would become a lot more difficult for people to be involved. Since ARGs encourage so much player interaction, there has to be a place where the PMs ignore the chatter and let us put our heads together.

Not only that, but we regularly talk out of character here, noting openly that it is just a game, Perplex City isn't a real place, etc. If what we said here were something the characters could read, then they would have to respond to the weird notion that we think their serious plight is just a bit of fun made up by an Earth company.

That doesn't mean I don't get the impression we did something a little off with Monica/Sylvia. Having two near-deaths in one day due to a meeting we set up is suspicious, and then those Futures... Confused

But if we leaked something to the wrong person, I don't think it was done on this board.
