And in Perplex City it is in the middle of The Three Balls (Sept. 11 - Oct. 10)
though I am not sure how that would relate to the star map. It doesn't exactly look like pawn broker balls to me.

[SPEC] I have been wondering for a while if the signs in the futures column might match up with constellations that we can see, and if so perhaps we could work out where Perplex city is by looking at when the sun is in those constellations

[WILD SPEC] Also the name project syzygy got me wondering if perplex city were on a planet on the other side of the sun (syzygy meaning a straight line arrangement of at least three celestial bodies). This idea of a parallel Earth with a slightly different history is explored in Nabokov's
_Ada_

btw nice work with the map!

Confused

Probably more red herrings but since nothing else has led anywhere for me, here are a few FYIs ...

There is a company based in Toronto that supposedly developed White Dwarf Linux as far as I can tell

As far as I can tell there are no major celebrity little people from canada.

I have not double-checked this but I remember reading in one of the character blogs (Kurt's maybe?) about one of the characters lying about looking at the stars and making a specific comment that the constelations differed from what we see.

I know this is spec, but I'm still wondering about some sort of equinox connection. The timing is a little off (the actual equinox was at 18:23 EST on the 22nd), but it's one of the Brotherhood's big celebrations. A possible Reconstructionist/3rd Power link? (Or an astronomical one? Are any of the previously mentioned features on or near the celestial equator?)

Technically, if you recalculate EST time to GMT time (which has been used previously), it should be the 23rd.

edit: Except it occurs at EDT which is not the same as EST, which is just GMT-4. Dang - it's still the 22:nd, then. I don't think it fits.

The only problem with that is that they would have to be very close to be able to see the same constellations that we see. If you move even as far as the nearest star, Proxima Centauri (which is 4.2 light years away), the constellations begin to shift and change. Of course, some will remain similar at that distance, but it seems unlikely to me that we could see the same constellations that they can see.

However, if you want to look at it that way, if their astrological signs follow the same pattern as our own, that means that their sun travels through the constellations representing the signs during each period listed and we can locate where they would be in the Perplexian sky in relation to one another and their sun.

This is what I was thinking. I even went as far to see if Perplex City were on a planet on the other side of the sun in the same orbit as the earth would the stars match up with the names in the futures column. Some of them seemed reasonable, but constellation shapes are vague enough that you can make them out to be nearly anything.

I think there must be something showing at the Cinema. I think we are reading into this too deeply. Has anyone in the area phoned the Cinemas to ask which ads they are running?

Where are our Toronto people and what have they against a good movie?!

We had to have missed something Sad It's gotta be there.

We watched the pre-show stuff for a bout half an hour before the movie started on Friday and nothing out of the ordinary stood out - the typical "guess the actor" quick trivia and corny ads galore.

I could make a trip tonight or tomorrow to the Newmarket theatre and give it another go.

That would rule, Hojo Very Happy

Plus, then you could report back on the latest movies out, as I haven't seen one in... I ... I can't count back that far. :/ I miss the buttery popcorn...
