My intention with this thread is to figure out if there's anything that can be learned through these stock avatars about the story or the game itself rather then the people running it.
Yes one of them looks like Kristen. And I love Kristen, and I'm very happy that she or somebody who looks like her posed for an avatar because that makes finding ARGN'ers easy. But she doesn't have anything recognizable except for her face, so I think she's rather a red herring.
It seems to me that there is some interesting product placement in a few of these pictures; and maybe they are KLOOZ or maybe not. However, the fact that most of these pictures are so innocuous while some of them have readable or recognizable logos is something I think bears some attention.
This guy, for instance, is wearing what may or may not be iPod Headphones and a knit skullcap that says "Billabong ".
[i]My bad, it doesn't say "All American".

This is my Avatar .. He is the closest thing I could find to me.. except that I don't have that much hair on my head or face
The freaky thing is that he has my arms! I swear when that guy sits down to play poker, those are my arms he's spreading on the table. Scary stuff I tell you.. I pray all of you get to meet your arm twins someday.
My guy does not advertise any commercial products, but he is in desperate need of hair conditioner, as I keep telling everybody but still get no hair care products.
Maybe there's a clue in that hair...

That knit cap says Billabong, not All American.

Well, that kind of gives it away, doesn't it? I thought we had talked about this .
Heh, don't you think if we identified other actors in avatars, and not Kristen, and shushed people every time she was mentioned, we'd be drawing undue attention?

Don't forget the Lambda Chi Alpha frat boy. That was the most obvious markings.

He stood out to me as well. The downside is that whenever I see LXA, I get a nasty earworm. Magic Carpet Ride. ugh. I've been humming it since Sat night/Sun am when I first saw the avatar. Please make it stop!

Interesting that they'd use an actual fraternity too. Usually folks will go out of their way to smush together three greek letters which do NOT represent any real organization. But perhaps one of the folks running this thing is a proud alumnus and wanted to throw in a shout out to his homies.

Kristen Rutherford is the actress who voiced Durga/Melissa/Operator and the Sleeping Princess for the ilovebees game, last year.
(There's a fair swack of people playing Last Call Poker who are also Beekeepers from that game, which is why there's recognition)

Well, we're glad you're here now.
We're not trying to be clique-ish, I promise -- we're just glad to be playing another ARG together, but it's usually the new people who make it really fun. If we make references that you're not familiar with, and you're curious, please continue to ask, because we're only too happy to explain. We really don't want anyone to feel left out -- we just have a lot of fond memories from ILB.
