[META] Tombstone Hold'em
As MissSphinx points out in the trailhead thread, there are expanded and variant rules for Tombstone Hold'em now on the "All In" page.
These answered just about every question I had except one...
If you find a stone where the year ends in a 0, that would be a 10 right?
Naturally.
Just wanted to say that out loud.
I really like the idea of this game by itself, and I love that it's being included in this ARG.
That being said, I'm not sure how I feel about running around in a graveyard in this way. I mean, I've been in graveyards before but... I don't know.
So.
I want to try it out before actually going to the event.
Is there anybody in the Southern California area that would like to join me? Perhaps next weekend?
Edit - Changed topic - Ehsan

Not I. I live in the wrong state. I live in the state of Northern California.
Seriously, though. I'm tempted to pull off a run for the San Francisco live event.
Any takers?

I seriously hope they are not going to use real graveyards, mabey it's just me but i find that a bit disrespectful. Besides how would they explain/get permission from the caretakers to do this?

I would assume that means they are playing in real cemeteries. I would think it'd be hard to play TOMBSTONE poker sans the tombstones, no? As for respect..well...

Players will be asked to bring a flower to leave on the grave of their choosing as a sign of respect.
I guess it's a nice thing to do. I can see people being offended by folks playing poker ontop of their dearly departed. Me, I wouldn't mind...but that's just me.

And it's not like everyone's going to run around the graveyard screaming their heads off, right?

I suppose it would be nice if we made sure to dress in something "nice'ish" rather then ratty cut off jeens and a t-shirt that says "Beekeepers do it with payphones" or something.

I don't know, but considering the type of stuff that happens in graveyards here around Halloween...well...this seems pretty mild. (Then again, maybe it's a local thing. We have a lot of graveyards.)
I'm not sure it's any more disrespectful than filming a movie with a shoot-out in a graveyard, or having a scavenger hunt that uses a cemetery.

Considering the way I play poker, some people might be very, very offended. But like Phaedra said, they film movies and whatnot in real graveyards all the time, and you don't usually hear protesters swarming the streets.

I view anything that gets people out and reading the names that are carved on those tombstones and includeing those names in with the living, especialy in a fun way, is one of the most respectfull things you can do at a graveyard. I will bet that youwill rember the names of that winning hand you get.

on another note, this game remindes me of the time we went grave digging..... no really we did! The game was "find the grave stone" see at the graveyard in town, they had a section that was on a bit of a slope and the flat gravestones (the ones they like you to have these days so that the riding mower can go right over it) get covered up after years of rain and erosion. So we take a long metal rod and went diveing for gravestones. once found we dug them up and brought them to the surface. Some of them were many feet deep, which was kinda creepy.
