That's the first thing I checked. All of the lat/long coordinates she gave are in dense urban areas, while the background of the kana image is less developed.

 		On the img_map.jpg, the translations given above on this thread is only inclusive of the first two lines, correct??? (I don't know japanese, so I'm asking).

What do we make of the third line of characters?

 		Hmmm... I was thinking the last line was more likely this (rather than squinting just right, as was previously suggested):

Based on extended ASCII characters from HERE at the bottom of the page. This would yield a possible numerical code as follows:

I separated each "word" based on the actual image. So, after that, not sure what this series of numbers would correlate to, ... but ...


I'm open to feedback ... I'm new to this, and thought there might be more than just meets the eye.

Those ascii characters were among the first things I tried, and there aren't enough of them. Here's how I translated instead:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's a monospace font, so you have words of 3, 4, 3, and 7 letters. I broke the letters down by counting the spikes in each direction, top right bottom left. That gives the first word as:

0221, 1222, 1122

and so on. Then it's just a matter of substituting a letter for each unique number, and solving the cryptoquip.
