I mean, they're hitting us all over the heads to make sure we know, but they still don't get it.

That's exactly the point.

The people who played the Beast didn't know what they had on their hands exactly.

It took a while to get into the swing of things for ILB as well, and even up to the end we had people who couldn't understand why "Microsoft would F with some old lady's website".

These guys don't understand what they've gotten themselves into exactly. Poker is huge right now and this whole "death thing" could just be a way to differentiate themselves from the rest of the market.

Eventually, some of them will have an epiphany and the rest will just keep playing poker for free.

Maybe they don't care. It's free online poker.

You can't make them care. They're a part of this world, for better or for worse, though. Part of the scenery, a bit of the atmosphere.

I guess I'm just saying that getting annoyed at them doesn't affect them, only you. Smile

It's (presumably) thedealer saying, "Here's your card." Remember, he wants us to help Lucy, so he's dealing us in. Smile

I think it's important at this point to take a step back and think about what what we're taking for granted with these games. We are playing an online game for free in which we chat with in game characters, get e-mails from them, call their voice mail, meet with them for real-life events, and, in all probability, they're going to call us long before this is over.

The scale of a really well done ARG is astounding; the Cloudmakers realized exactly what it was because they were looking for clues, a game, some sort of cohesion. The Evan Chan angle was the main attraction. In LCP, the gun isn't even in the spotlight; it's (at least, to the casual observer) taking a backseat to the online play. If you're not looking for something, you'll never find it.

One thing I don't get...

I don't get what this ARG is trying to do... It's definitely professional; the site, the engine and the video are top notch. I can't yet imagine it tie-in to any other product than itself. All this to get us playing a free game, with no ads to boot? Something's weird here, and it just got me hooked! Very Happy

Well, as long as it's not sponsored by Smith & Wesson; keeping our graveyards filled since 1856. Wink

Maybe it's just ad-free for now. The ARG is just to build up regulars.

Relax. All will be well in time.

There are a ton of non-ARG folks playing the game now, and it's pretty funny. They don't understand the whole thing about us being dead. They all put "n/a" for their mortography. It really cracks me up that people are wasting time on this site thinking it's just about poker. How stupid can you be to not see what's going on there?

I mean, I've talked to them with the chat interface, and they have no idea that there's a lot more going on than poker. Apparently, they don't know how to click around a website to see things. I don't know.

I guess I find it really annoying that there are all these guys who think they're these cool poker players and they take it all seriously, while I'm just trying to participate in the ARG.

It seams to me that some of these people really are not people. they kinda act like bots to me. they say kina odd things and dont get subtile conversation. actualy I cant say that I have not been able to engadge some of them in any convo at all even whith them chatting away. Maybe they just dont like me...

As an aside, is there a way to cut off the dealer's chat spam or put it in a separate window or something? Most poker sites let you do that, but I can't find a way here. I keep missing conversations because I'm clicking around the site after I fold, and people's chat scrolls off so quickly because of the dealer.

Honestly, some of that might just be the interface generating LAG OF DOOM. A bunch of people might have noticed that I keep disappearing from tables mid-hand (sorry about that, by the way): it's because the table, which was already lagging on me, has frozen such that I can't even click the button to leave the table. (I suspect this is half because the game itself is sort of laggy, since other people have mentioned it, and half because I'm running it on a laptop prone to overheating, even if I'm also on cable 'net.)

Anyway, before the lag freezes me out, it usually gets to the point where I'm doing well just to keep up with the actual game, never mind any possible conversation going on. If I'm trying to chat too, I'm usually typing very fast in the hopes of keeping up with just one conversation, then waiting another minute or so for the game to let me send the message while I try to keep up with the current hand.

It's possible that some of the non-ARGN/Unforums players are lagging that badly (therefore not chatting at all, or only keeping up with one conversation at best because other conversations vanish in the flood of dealer-spam, or having trouble communicating quickly and clearly). It's also possible that they're just completely thrown by the idea of an ARG, depending on what you were trying to talk to them about. Smile

Alternately, if they're bots, I suspect they're not PM-run bots. I don't put it past the PMs to run characters of their own on LCP in order to keep an eye on things, and they're obviously running "IC" characters such as thedealer et al, but all the "official" bots seem to be the LCP_City ones. Doesn't mean that people who came here to play poker instead of play the ARG might not have ported bots from other games, though.

Can other people confirm this? How long do you need to play in order to get all the clues off the character cards?

I was wrong; I'm sorry. Clicking around without playing made the clues show up.

And, you know it's good when you start dreaming about it and it's only been a few days. I woke up and was sure I had the Mark of the Joker. (I don't.) Smile

Heh, I had a dream that about ten of us were playing poker on a dead body. Krystyn, ThaJinx, Ozy_y2k (even though he's not playing this ARG), Rose and six other people I knew were regulars were all trying to keep the cards from sliding off this male corpse.

Who suddenly sat up, scattering the cards, and wasn't dead.

I woke up at that point, unfortunately. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to find out what happened next. Confused
