I don't think it's necessarily cheating. A lot of people playing aren't very good poker players and a lot of people are playing very loose because it's only play money. Just playing my normal style I won about $10,000 in 3 hours tonight at the NL tables. And I'm not even that great, I tend to lose money when I play somewhere like Full Tilt.

So, if someone is a decent poker player, and plays a lot, I can see them getting that high in a week of solid play or so, if he hit a few really good double-ups. For all we know, he might be a pro, and he has this open while he's playing for money on other sites...

No, i talked to him and he said, "Some guy called me an a** because I play too aggressively."

Yeah, well...he does play aggressively. That's why he's a winner.

I went in under a new account and played exactly like him...and won 23k in a matter of 20 minutes. That's how he gets all those chips.

We'll see how he does at the reset. Mwahahahahahaaaaa! I love that feature.

See, I didn't call him an ass or anything, I was just wondering. If he plays aggresively, so what? I was up to 25k the other afternoon before I started losing it all to Marrec, just by playing really aggresive, just like I always do. It's fun, and you either win huge, or not at all. I haven't actually even seen him on yet, and that's why I asked if he was just cheating the system and not even playing. Anyways, I'm just waiting for next week.

I don't think that i've played against him. My only ability seems to be the ability to lose massive amounts of chips Embarassed. I drained 2 accounts in as many days and am currently refusing to make a third heh. so i'm stuck at the practice tables which i'm quickly becoming annoyed with..

This thread is cracking me up however...you guys all sound like poker players now (I'm loosing so now i'm going to blame the cards, the avatar he choose, the way he plays etc etce etcet cg etert)

I lost to J_dot_J because I played too liberally. It was my fault that I lost my chips for the week. I don't blame anyone else for my loss but myself Smile

Ditto.

I just started playing and didn't stop to consider that I may not be able to buy back in.

I think now that I and everybody else, have realised this is it for the week, I will play with a less casual attitude next week and I doubt I'll be the only one.

(Note I said "Casual" and not "conservative".)

I wonder if some of the annoyance from a lot of people here is coming from a clash of mindsets. We know this is an ARG, so we're in ARG mode: inquisitive, collaborative, community-oriented, etc.

J.J, and the other poker players that some people have complained about, are very much in a poker-player mindset: individualistic, competitive, etc.

Again, I'd say everyone just relax. If J.J is somehow connected to the game (which I still doubt very much), we'll figure it out eventually. Some of the poker players will blossom into ARGers, and some of them will just keep playing poker.

If we find out that the ARG requires us to win, we'll find a way to win. It won't be the hardest problem we've solved. Wink

So, point those players who show interest in the ARG side here, and don't worry about the rest of them.

Hey, I think I kinda know how he's doing it. And I was in the 'he's part of the game!' camp for awhile. Here's my story:

I got stuck in a room with a bot all by myself last night. For some reason, no one else could join (marrec tried). I came in with 100 chips.

Well, this bot? Had a pattern. No matter how much she raised, or bet (at one time it was 2000 in one go) if I matched, then waited for the river, and raised/bet even four chips after she checked, she'd fold.

I uh... Embarassed took advantage of that till I had 5000+ chips.

Is that wrong? Heh.

Haha we actually just talked a little bit about that here and the PMs have already fixed it so no one can do that anymore or are at least working on it.

Most people probably would have done the same thing you had done. Heck, I tried it, it just didn't work. Crying or Very sad

I think Phaedra's right...we're there to play the ARG, and some people want to just play poker.

I can forsee a danger to giving the "top players" priviledged infromation. J.J doesn't seem to be into the ARG, so what would happen if he gets a specific clue and doesn't share it because he doesn't care about the ARG?

I think that's where the frustration is coming from...we want the puzzles and he's messing up our mojo.

If I see him, I just scoot. I don't want to add to his stinky pile. At least, not any more. Wink

Oh...me and another player cleaned up with a bot on Monday afternoon. London and Amsterdam, I think.

Well, many PMs watch the Unforums while they have a game running, and considering that they linked to Unfiction on Last Call Poker, I think we can be fairly certain that these PMs are watching the boards as well, so I think they will have a pretty good idea of who is playing an ARG and who's just playing poker.

I'd still like to see some of us on that Top Player list, but I don't think we have to be alarmed that J.J. is going to be given Teh Secret To Teh Game and we won't ever have a chance to learn it. Smile

Indeed. Relax and have fun is the name of the game.

I "wonder" if the PM's monitor the rooms when a bunch of ARG'ers get together and start talking about the game.
