just spotted something in the full tombstone rules (link off www.lastcallpoker.com/allin

Jokers
If you find a tombstone of someone who died on your birthday, and you've got the ID to prove it, you can use it once as a Joker during the game.

not sure if this has anything to do with it, may mean that the Mark can be earnt at a live event, or might just be another dead end.
Also: the movie quote (in the first post), what was the name of the movie?

From Wikipedia (bolding is mine):

Quote:

Joker (playing card)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The Joker is a special card found in most modern decks of playing cards.

There are usually two Jokers per deck, and the artwork on the card varies depending on the deck's publisher. Often, one Joker card will be in black and white, while the other will be in full color. At other times, one may be a red joker, while the other is black. In games where the jokers may need to be compared, the colored joker usually outranks the black-and-white one. With the red/black jokers, the red one is counted as a heart/diamond and the black is used to substitute clubs/spades. The joker often shows a court jester.

The Joker's use is greatly varied. Many card games omit the card from use entirely; others, such as a 25-card variant of Euchre, make it one of the most important in the game. Often, the card is a wild card, allowed to represent a range of existing cards. The term "The Joker's wild" originates from this practice.

It is believed that the term Joker comes from Jucker, the Alsatian name for Euchre, since the card was originally introduced for games of that family. Alternatively, it may represent a combination of Jucker and Poker, as these are the games in which, originally, it was most commonly featured.

The Joker can be an extremely beneficial, or an extremely harmful, card. In Euchre it is often used to represent Benny, the highest trump. In poker, it is wild. However, in the children's game Old Maid, a solitary joker represents the Maid, a card that is to be avoided.

The Joker sometimes bears the original symbol for the U.S. Dollar, an S superimposed over a U.

The Joker is often compared to 'The Fool' in the Major Arcana of the Tarot deck. They share many similarities both in appearance and play function; the Fool is often the highest trump.

The Batman enemy, The Joker's look was originally based on this playing card.

Tried "US" "SU" and "$" without anything apparently changing.

[PUZZLE] Mark of the Joker

(Changed topic heading: I think we can safely treat this as a puzzle. --Phaedra)

HitsHerMark stumbled upon a guy in the poker rooms today (Dustman) with the Mark of the Joker... Meaning it's possible to get and Embarassed we might have missed something Embarassed

Anyone have any thoughts on what that keyword to stick in our profile is and where it might be located?

Discuss!

(I should add that the guy isn't talking and runs away from us Razz

Edit - Changed topic - Ehsan

Do you know his name by any chance? If we are aware of who he is we might get another chance to ask him, I'm sure he'll break eventually Laughing

But seeing as it is a mark, it may possibly have to be given to us? Winning games against certain characters?

EDIT: Sorry didn't see his name in above post Sad

The guy's name (in the post above) is DustMan.

I'm hesitant to say is a poker-playing thing/mark like the pokerbuddies object because of the presence of the entry-form for the two marks in our profile section (under edit)

This implies to me that it's a keyword that unlocks the mark (Also, when it shows in the guy's profile, it's under "unlocks", not "awards" , I take that back, it's under "awards").[/strike]

Well, the guy doesn't have a huge winnings total, and noone on the leaderboard has it, so it's probably not related to winning alot of games. He also doesn't have anyone on his quicklist, so it probably doesn't have to do with finding a particular user and adding him.

Mark Hamill does the voice of the Joker on the batman animated series, but I tried the derivations I could think of his name in there, and his role in Star Wars, but didn't get anything there.

We know we have a max of 10 characters to work with. Phone numbers are 10 digits. Are there any phone numbers that make sense in terms of "Mark of the Joker" ?.

Maybe it's a play on words somehow? I can't, and noone else has seemed to be able to, find a poker reference to it, and I haven't seen any jokers in game of any sort. A mark can mean a physical mark, but isn't it also used in gambling terms as an IOU of sorts when you run out of money? Perhaps, as Reason suggested, you have to beat someone, The Joker, and take all his money?

I'm coming up mostly blank in the brainstorming area right now.

*edited to add in more stuff.

joker

In the rules of Tombstone Poker you get to have one card as a joker - if you find and can prove with ID that you were born on the day that a person died as shown on the gravestone.

I wonder if this is related to the birthday we had to put in for registering or maybe the death day that we chose. Dustman's chosen day was 1/1/1941.

Perhaps only the month and day have to match?

The joker card often has a "$" in the corner of it. I tried $, dollar, and dollar sign with no luck.

I thought about that, but 1/1/1941 is the day Dustman chose as the day of death. 1941 is the earliest year, and 1/1 being the default day to choose. There are several people with 1/1/1941 as their death day.

Unfortunately, dustman's birthday is private information that only he and the PM's know. I tried putting in today for my birthday, and it didn't seem to trigger anything.

Hmmm... maybe this is a special - his birthday being the same as a death date of one of the characters?

That would mean random chance that someone gets the joker (at least initially)...

Well, on the profile page it says "If you have the Mark of the Joker, enter it here," so it's something you need to type in. Would that indicate it was something that isn't affected by changing your birth/deathdate?

Check the entire quote:
Quote:
They were now in front of a tiny hut. It looked like every other hut in town, but Quinn noticed a tiny qill etched into the lower left corner of the front window, about a centimeter in height.

"What is that in the corner over there? A quill perhaps?"

"You have a good eye. That is the mark of the joker. Every day, it switches to a different host - this way, should the Jester ever come visit, he will never find out where our hope resides." The door creaked open, and the boy motioned Quinn inside.

A good eye is not the mark of the joker. The tiny quill etched in glass was the mark of the joker. Hey, "tiny quill" fits...

On the front page, the flashing message "If you'RE readinG this, I'M already DEAD", gives us the capitalized letters IREGIMDEAD. I posted this in another thread to no response, but the more I look at it, the more I believe it's a clue. Does anyone with more experience have any ideas for this?
