For some reason, I've never been a big fan of The Message (it may well be because that actor annoys me...I have him associated with his character on Angel, with perhaps a twinge of psychoanalyzing vampire guy). But I do adore Objects in Space (the scene with River and the stick? soooo incredible) and Out of Gas. Mmm, and the loveliness that is Our Mrs. Reynolds. Good stuff.

I'm working on dragging everyone I know into the theater this Friday. Y'know, to see Serenity, and not just because I want to show them the theater.

Yeah, I'm lucky not to have any prior association for that actor. I agree, the scene with the stick, especially with the interesting sound-effects, was riveting.

Indeed. We need to make this first weekend an event. Sell out as many showings as possible. If this is truly going to be a 'cult' movie, let's do our bit.

For those of you not signed up at the Browncoats (although I can't imagine anyone not)

Joss on Browncoats message board wrote:
Well boys and girls and boys dressed as girls and girls dressed as Kaylee, the time is almost upon us. This Friday we take that old rust-bucket out of the shipyard and see if she can breach atmo. It's been a long (to paraphrase a band I like) strange trip, and it'll be nice finally to show everybody what it is we've been tinkering with all this time. You already know you have my thanks, from the hardcore fans to the softcore... fans.... let me try that again. From the people manning the booths, buying DVD sets for their friends, getting banners seen everywhere on Australian TV, raffling artwork for ticketholders (Adam Hughes, take a bow), to the most casual fan who just wants to see the flick and won't ever even read this. You guys are the fuel in the engine, the Fire in the Fly, the weird green stuff coming out of Serenity's butt. (Hmmm. Forget that last one. I'm a little bit out of control here.)

Everyone needs something to keep them going. Mal has his ship. Zoe has her integrity. Jayne has Vera. And I've got you guys.

So what now? There have been so many posts about seeing it, seeing it again, the first weekend, the second weekend, being enthusiastic without being obnoxious (and yes, it IS hard to see over the pom-pom of a Jayne hat), buying tickets in advance, making a noise... I honestly wouldn't know what to add. I can tell you this: the movie will play in about 2200 hundred theaters, which is a good number. Too many, and you get empty theaters with no energy -- not enough, and you get, well, not enough. It may be hard to find in some areas but it'll be out there. Leave no multiplex unturned! This is going to be a ground war, peeps -- we have to hold the valley for a long while. However it opens, it needs to HOLD. Instead of the Alliance we'll be fighting viewer apathy, fear of something new, the urge to wait for DVD, and Jessica Alba in a bikini. (Although I have it on good authority that she spends 90% of the film in a huge wooly parka. Make sure that gets out.)

The day this puppy opens, I'll be seeing it with my family (don't worry, there's a lot of them, and they're all paying) and then I'm off to Europe to learn the word 'Browncoats' in nine different languages -- 'cause like I said, it's all about holding. I'll never be far from a computer, though, so I can check in with y'all. Thanks for every damn thing.

And remember, amidst all the urgency to make this an event, all the work and the worry, to take two hours and just enjoy yourself. That is, after all, what all this fighting's about.

-joss.

OMG! It's Friday! It's opening today! Huzzah!! Jetpack

Been waiting for a YEAR for this puppy!

And the day is finally here! Yay, yay, yay!

The plan is to go buy the tickets and then get fat and happy on pizza and baby calamari and then get in line. Then go see it again on Monday. And again as soon as possible.

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

Cuz...you'll be glad you did. What an emotional rollercoaster ride. Went through the *entire* range. Laughed, cried, clapped, cheered, gasped...left the theater a shakey wreck.

Astonishing movie...totally not prepared for 'you know what'. Damn.

Same here. At the end I couldn't wait to get home to discuss this with everyone (of course, I did take time out to grab something to eat).

I was - and then I wasn't. Damn the New York Times. I accepted the spoiler and I still ended up surprised. Who would have thought?

Wow, I didn't realise there was such a following for Firefly here! I don't watch the show (I have, like, NO channels) but I do have some exciting news that I've just been dying to tell someone, at least, someone who doesn't already know. My drama teacher at school is best friends with Nathan Fillian. I guess they went to high school together and are still keeping in touch. He got a bunch of passes to go see the sneak preview (and didn't even invite me Evil or Very Mad ), and Nathan sent everyone he knows in Edmonton the action figure they made of him. I guess he comes back to visit every now and then, and my drama teacher usually cons him into coming to the classes. So I'll make sure to get some autographs or something for you guys when he does! Surprised </useless information>

Just got back from seeing it. Insufficient advance planning. Consequently ended up in the back row. But good that the theatre was packed. Random thoughts: Solid beginning to what turns out to ge a fun, but somewhat aimless feeling first half. Intense, awesome second half. I'm going to try to see it again at some point. Pay more attention to the cinematography and music and whatnot. But I think maybe a weekday matinee in a couple weeks when the theatre practically is empty and I've had more time to reflect on it.

I think the reason that the first half feels so slow is that we already know who everyone is so we (the fans) are slightly bored. But I don't think that this part makes the movie any less good. I thought it was a great movie.

I wasn't bored even for a second. Am seeing it again today. The crew are my most favorite characters ever (well, except for Jack Bauer) and every moment spent with them was cherished.

You forgot a certain Feng Shui "expert" with jangly bracelets.

I feel like such an ingrate. JO! Will you ever forgive me?

TL changes her address, phone number, moves to a different country, buys a wig and dark glasses.
