If I were to venture a guess, I would say that its magnifying stock quotes from the business section of a newspaper. That would keep in line with the whole power theme that Arashi suggested (financial power).
As for the microscope picture, notice that it shows various size objective lenses, with various powers of magnification. I think the main idea being conveyed by each and every single picture in this collage is power. Its only a coincidence that two of the pictures featured magnification of some sort.
As a side note, I was wondering if anyone could possibly identify the ship. Might be an important clue. Might be trivial.

I'd concur it's Victory. Even if we're wrong it's most certainly a big old warship - signifying power, same as the other pictures

also, not that it's crucial info, but I'm pretty sure that's Hoover Dam.

For what it's worth, this all put me in mind of the 'picture library' type stuff that Voyager carried back in the 70's, in a Carl Sagan - esque effort - the idea being that if the probe did run into some strange extraterrestrial beings, they might learn something about earth by studying various pictures of DNA helixes, running water, mud geysers and old chinese gentlemen in felt hats...or something.
So, it makes me wonder what exactly those darn Perplexians are trying to tell us - that they've come to steal all our power supplies? That they wish to hyper - evolve us beyond the use of wasteful power resources?
Yes, that wasn't worth very much was it? I need to catch up!

There's definetly a code in the way the pictures appear I'm sure steve knows this already but I'm just stating it for the one's that are a little slow, as several posts seem to mention this.
Althought the cypher doesn't really remind me of anything I've seen before.
Code:
(in order of appearence)
1 2 3 4 5
1 19 15 8 1 20
2 4 22 24 10 5
3 17 9 18 6 16
4 25 14 7 11 3
5 2 12 21 13 23
(in rel to the solar panel)
(solar minus = 2)
(solar only = 1)
(nothing = 0)
1 2 3 4 5
1 2 2 1 2 1
2 0 0 1 1 1
3 0 0 2 1 1
4 1 2 1 1 2
5 0 1 1 0
I don't know what to do about the solar panel itself since it's what I use to make the numbers 0-2

how about making it just 'when the solar panel is there and when it isnt' that way it will make binary

I was wondering whether it was in morse - with the solar panel being a dot, and the solar panel + minus being a dash.
... except that it doesn't seem to spell anything, except *nearly* 'drd' ...

as they are lovers of the number 3, i've been trying it all ways using trinary logic
-1 = false
0 = neutral
1 = true
but i think i'm getting nowhere slowly
so thats not a likely road to follow

On the blueprint page three of the sides are allocated a series of lines, and each of these are different. I wonder if these are actually present on the cube itself. If so then they must be artifacts from the original builders and have a meaning that not even the perplexians have necessarily found.

A square like that always makes me think of a Playfair cypher but we don't have a message to decode...yet.
