The blocks of numbers are interesting. There are several 10-number blocks scattered through the text. The fact that the first three are identical makes me think "www", maybe?

Alot of the numbers are repeated, in the middle you can even visually see a pattern without actually looking at the numbers and letters.

Perhaps we should remove the repeated ones and see what's left, or the repeated combinations together represent one letter?

There is probably a more elegant solution, but I ended up substituting a letter for each number and treating it like a cryptogram.

So check out http://www.coyotedispatch.com!

Of particular interest, in an article about Jake's return...

Quote:
Adding to the twist of events with Starkey's return is a scheduled press conference. Mr. Starkey has requested a press conference to discuss his disappearance, rather than elaborate details to the individual media sources. The press conference has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 8th at 5:30pm. The conference will be moderated and in a format of scheduled questions followed by a short free-question section. If the readership has any questions, it is requested that they send them to the editor of the Coyote Dispatch. Though the event will be closed to the public, it will be broadcast online by the Dispatch at irc.coolchat.net#coyotedispatch, and the free-question section will be open to those watching the broadcast.

Taking a second look, I think I've got what the 10 digit numbers were supposed to represent.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
They're ISBN codes. The first letter of the author's last name is the key.

Addleplated, I totally do not get it - one way the actual ISBN numbers "decode" to the letters of the new URL, but the other way they are book titles that just happen to have the author's name start with the right letter? Plus I don't actually see that - your list starts W-D-O-T-C-Y-E . . .-- was it scrambled too?

Don't worry about it. You don't want to know how much time I spent trying to figure out how the book subjects could possibly have anything to do with the solve!

Ok, I get the ISBN solve but how did you get the first solve? I mean I don't understand how you assigned letters to the numbers. Confused Was it just frequency?

I sifted out the ten digit numbers from the big block of characters. The first number, 1887176055, was repeated 3 times, so I gave it a 'W'. Then I went through the rest of the numbers and just assigned them values of A, B, C, D, etc. until all the numbers had a letter. It ended up like this:

1887176055 W
1887176055 W
1887176055 W
1412003415 A
0071357548 B
0439210445 C
0786410698 D
0071357548 B
1559500522 E
0071357548 B
0439210445 C
1593730055 F
1412003415 A
0804718431 G
1586633007 H
0471292753 J
0933873220 K
0439210445 C
0786410698 D
1558508465 L
1412003415 A
0071357548 B
0439210445 C
0786410698 D
0071357548 B
0892724056 M

Last, I took 'WWWABCDBEBCFAGHJKCDLABCDBM' and plugged it into a cryptogram page at http://www.esg.montana.edu/meg/consbio/cryptogram/crypto.html. I saw there were two "ABC"s, and the end was "DBM", and "DOT" and "COM" both have the same middle letter, so I plugged that in, leaving me with WWWDOTCO*OT*D****TC*DOTCOM. Then I just kind of fiddled with it! Smile
