More specifically:
if you convert the coordinates to decimal (40.59575, -73.5098833) and use the mapquest tool, it marks a point on Long Island, just south of where E Ocean Parkway meets Wantagh Parkway South. It is just south (or in) Jones Beach State Park and just west of Jones Beach Pitch and Put.
I have a friend who lives in NYC, i'm giving her a call now. Any NY residents that can also venture the trip?

Messing around with Google Earth, I found it a little over to the east of where your picture is. And I'm as sure as I can be that I converted it into the right decimals. Then again, you can count the number of times I've used Google maps on one hand with very few fingers, but I've attached the image anyway. X marks the spot.

For flavor - the obelisk in the satellite photos is a water tower that marks the entrance to Jones Beach.

I double checked the, and I'm fairly sure PP is correct here. The co-ordinates as I worked them out were:
40.595750, -73.508983
Which leads to here:

Interesting they would use our own history against us - irony anyone?
Anyway - I called for the heck of it - I wondered a couple things while I was pressing the keys:
1) Do they have a good knowledge of our history - or were they here for it
2) Why do they repeat most of the options like 2 million times - it got annoying, but it might be important - how many and what options were repeated.

quick post to say that the wonders are chosen in chronological order; with the pyramids being the point of origin;

a giant mass of stone looms above you, sand blowing in your eyes. Ancient and mysitcal, you wonder what it is like at the top.
ending at the Lighthouse in Alex (also known as Pharos, strangely, also the name of mobile GPS developers), as shown here

Is anyone heading to the park near the obelisk, or are people taking the advice to "go quietly" seriously, and not posting.
I might be able to head down there this weekend, but it is a treck (~5 hours depending on traffic) and I don't want to take the time and find nothing because someone else has already found what is there.

Well, its good to know my idea worked! I phoned up as soon as i got home and its reset to the daytime service. How many players do we have in/contacts in NY? Becuase if a few people go down it saves others treking to find whatever is there!

Hi guys
I will go out tomorrow, but I dont know when or what to look for. I need to find the train or a ride out there -which I can and will do.
I read the thread. I will check in again before I leave tomorrow probably around noon or so my time.
Any help on what I am supposed to do??
HELP - the message is different now I think.. I need to know what extension to enter. It takes 3 digits. I get this "the person you are calling as ceased to be maybe you will see them in another life" then disconnect.

Yikes. But as I recall, triathlons start early and end amazingly fast, maybe this will be settled down before I arrive.
I dont hear anything about "enter quietly." I am confused. ( Edit-for anyone playing the unfiction drinking game, take a drink, )
Gotta run, but will check in tomorrow. Cheers!

Just called the 800 number, and it asked me to enter an extension, one number at a time. I tried 221, and it said,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"Unfortunately, the person you are attempting to contact has ceased to be. Maybe you'll see them in another life." And then it disconnected.
Anybody else getting this?
EDIT: Oh, I see Rose added this in an edit!
So, anyway, anybody else? Ideas? What could this mean?
More to add -- the only extension that works appears to be the 131 extension, but when I went through the proper key sequence for this, it disconnected early in the trip through the wonders. Just after the gardens, actually. May have just been a problem with the phone line.

help please. I added as an edit because I don't know what it means or if it was new. Guy - please help me out with this. It is an hour train ride each way and I need as much information as I can get about what to do or look for .
I have the maps. I have xnbomb's verbal description of the site.
I will try the one working extension.
Anything else??
Does anyone think the change means i don't need to go out there? Or it is too late and we missed whatever it was?
I am glad to go but don't want to go if we know it will be a waste of time.

The phone message is back to the daytime message. I am assuming the message changes based on what time you call. Which is pretty cool and is it a clue? Or just reflective of the institutes work??
The fact is disconnects after each message is a pain in the ass when you only have 15 minutes to try to figure it out.
I am really confused (drink)
I know the brienigma isn't around today - is there any other PPC expert or two who is willing to try to help me with this?
I will be back here in a couple of hours. I will be leaving around noon.
Cheers!
