word

So much for the validity of the official Scrabble dictionary. That is the name of the dictionary by the way.. Official Scrabble dictionary. Smile

Here is a question though: this puzzle could easily have been solved just by googling (not that it was solved that way but it could have been)which leads me to join in with the chorus of voices saying that there is more to this puzzle than this one word. Even if that is the correct answer for the puzzle board (which we will find out in due time) that doesn't mean we have solved all of the layers of these puzzles. Even the Whipsmart wordsearch another level.

About this card - does the word "vitil" mean anything in the context of PPC? Maybe that was an allowed word too - I may stop by Barnes and Noble and see if the book has a diagram of the words used when the answer here was played.

Or perhaps we need to find a message in the left over letters from the Scrabble board?

from wikipedia:

English language editions of Scrabble contain 100 letter tiles, in the following distribution:

2 blank tiles (scoring 0 points)
1 point: E (12), A (9), I (9), O ( 8 ), R (6), N (6), T (6), L (4), S (4) U (4)
2 points: D (4), G (3)
3 points: B (2), C (2), M (2), P (2)
4 points: F (2), H (2), V (2), W (2), Y (2)
5 points: K (1)
8 points: J (1), X (1)
10 points: Q (1), Z (1)
It is interesting to note that this distribution of letters has not changed since Alfred Mosher Butts invented the game in 1938.

It is very unlikely to have been found by Googling....with the 'answer' buried deeply in a page like that. Other searches along similar lines bring little clue to the answer (although reference to the book is easily found, and I have a gut feeling the board in the puzzle may be from an actual game that is quoted somewhere in the book)

I agree however that there may be more to the puzzle....perhaps the answer checking page is taking so long so that the 'answers' can be changed if the 'first choice' answers to the puzzles are found to quickly? Really, is it that hard to code an answer checking page? The only part that could possibly be tricky is the unique code validation but that has been done for a number of promotions/competitions.

rose: the scrabble distribution is the key to another card. I'd be surprised if the same technique were required here. Honestly, I think the one word response is the whole answer.

I can get... Umm, I think it's 102 (including the 50 word bonus for using all tiles) (you get 13 for the tiles, there are 2 double word score tiles, so that's 52, +50 bonus... I think that's right Smile )

I can't see anything bigger, and I know all the 2 and 3 letter words, and have a page reference for 4 letters... I think that's the best.. Smile

EDIT: hah! i didn't say the word!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

AUBERGINES from the A in PAIRER, going down, uses all tiles

Yep - I have this also. Except it scores 110, not 102.
I have been unable to find a longer word - I think this could be it.

Aubergine is an eggplant in England, so i'd go with that...

An Aubergine is called an Aubergine in England but an Eggplant in America.

This may or may not be a possibility, and I don't have time to go over the words myself at the moment, but if the game is in fact being played with "Perplex City Rules" - i.e, Perplex City words can be used - then perhaps the word they are looking for may be found in Violet's Word-of-the-day Page (http://www.quirkyacuity.com/words/)? I don't know, just a hunch. I'll look into that later, if the possibility hasn't already been discussed. If it has, pardon my ignorance. Best wishes.

I think you'll find that those are actual words from the English language, not crazy foreign words from Perplex City.

Very obviously, they are English words. However, I was just suggesting that perhaps the use of a Perplex City word could be possible, and rack up more points than an English one. Just a thought, though. Of course, I'm thinking that Aubgergines ir probably correct.

and none of them seem to top what we know already. Nice idea, I will grant you. But no, nothing here.

Well I'm not getting points for putting in the 'correct' answer so either its another one pf those cards I seem to have that tell me I'm wrong when I know I'm not, or
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
aubergines

For anyone who hasn't got it yet. Here's a brilliant website.

Help! I've tried 102 a whole bunch of times and it's not accepting, if that is not right what is? I've checked the wordfinder site, double checked the scoring and still get to 102, is it higher and if so how?
