Guys: I checked that area very carefully. You can't put anything on the lawn and expect it to remain for any period of time. I walked around there for at least a couple of hours and spoke to chippy three times on the phone while I was there.
Going back without more information seems pointless, but if people want to try they should! It was a nice day at the beach. But I don't expect that I will go back again.
Please don't let the postcard distract you, it is just one I picked up that showed a good overhead view so you could see it. There is no way I could get a shot like that myself - not having a plane or wings or anything.

That's one of the reasons I'm pretty certain it's the memorial. If you look at that spot with Google Earth it's pointing DIRECTLY at the memorial, maybe half a meter off to the left. Given that the coordinates are accurate to within 10 meters or so, I suppose it could have been on the other side of the bushes or something (I think you said there was poison ivy so you didn't look on the other side) but my money is on the memorial itself.

I agree. In fact, I'd say going back without a GPS device would be pointless. Even though from all the mapping programs we can find the coordinates seem to point to that specific area, it's possible that a GPS device on the ground would tell a different story.
Thanks again for making the trip Rose! I'm anxiously awaiting those photos... You never know...

Maybe this is the end of 'finding words' to make up the website then.
www.
1) The Receda Approach band (Related to 'the stars')
2) The Receda Design film (word is possibly, indeed probably, power)
3) The memorial (help)

They could create a puzzle based on the names of the people or on the poems, as has been suggested, but what kind of puzzle?
I have been trying to relate the extension numbers back to the poems or names, but have yet to come up with anything interesting. I either get three letters that don't spell much or 9 letters that are total garbage, depending on what system I use. I'm still trying different ways of applying the numbers, though...

While the obelisk location seems appropriate I wanted to add the possibility that perhaps we could be be looking in the wrong direction?
Since the the receda approach dealt with astronomical things...could the coordinates be stellar coodinates? Unfortunately, we may not have all the information we need such as date and observing location etc. - making this look like a rather difficult route...

Hi, I've only just joined, but I was reading this topic and I thought of something that I didn't see mentioned anywhere (although sorry if it has been) - could the direction the shadow points have something to do with the puzzle? From what people have said I know it's not possible that something could be buried at the end of the shadow at a certain time, but is there anything else nearby that the shadow could point at? Maybe something to do with using the shadow as a sundial or clock?
Although the obvious problem is that the "go quietly" clue would suggest nighttime.... so no shadow.
OK, that was probably utterly useless. Just an idea.

Okay, so... from the Futures:

Quit it with the sleepy eyes and get to work! You're getting a reputation around the office for not carrying your own weight, lately, and you don't want word getting up to the top, do you?
<snip>
The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)
Silences are melodies heard in retrospect.
What do you think? Maybe it was something to be heard, not seen? Music playing? Could there have been a recording on?

Alright, I'll say it .. what's on the moon or mars or venus or any other orb at those coords? (i cant seem to fFind a nice tool to do the lookup myself.) prolly gonna be nothing, i guess.
And .. did you try eating it?

ahhh...I was thinking more about star names or constellations etc. I didn't really believe I'd have to spell out the fact that you wouldn't actuallyvisit the location - spelling it out - on a star chart .
We have a possible galaxy name already (spelling it out - Sculptor) and I was attempting to think outside the box... perhaps a little too much.

I have no idea what that means. As a sentence, it conveys no meaning to me.

toongoon, i'm thinking of like say the puzzle card #179. coordinates given, which point to some object. I'm basically taking your notion and applying it. I was thinking, earlier, of other spheres and orbs which could apply here. nothing seemed useful. so fFar, yes, the suggestion of some kinda starry thing seems to drive fFarther than anything i've got.

i'd guess it was something to do with that you cant really define a silence until its over and stops being silent. so you can only hear (or maybe appreciate) a silence in hindsight?
as to the going quietly, it must be important or they wouldnt have said it, i reckon the listening out for something sounds like a good idea especially at night considering this has all come out of the receda music and sleep and sound therapy and all that

i didn't hear anything special. I listened.
There are big concerts at Jones Beach. The location of the Jones Beach bandshell isn't close to where the coordinates were.

Nowhere near...however...30th September's line-up was "British Sea Power / The Killers".
We think that "power" is one of the themes raised recently...and "killers" too...complete coincidence probably, but just thought I'd mention it.

Wild idea... Has anyone thought to call the sleep center and try extension 911 ?
