Probably because Shad0 put it in little tiny type. Smile

but anyway here is the text

Then came the Holy One, blessed be He, and slew the angel of death that killed the Shochet who slaughtered the ox that drank the water that quenched the fire that burned the stick that beat the dog that bit the cat that ate the goat,
that Father bought for two zuzim.
One little goat, one little goat.

it makes me think of the dealer and lucy and such.

Okay, but how so? Because of the escalating cycle of violence?

but if this is discussed than forget it ill just delete this post.

Nah, we didn't actually discuss it -- the reference was more of a joke. Which is why I'm interested. Smile

what i was thinking is that there is a cycle of killing going on in the song and that the shochet going about his business is still killed by the angel of death.

We are warned about from the dealer about the devil.

Even though one could consider no devil in the whole scheme of jewish life could the angel of death be one of the characters that is going to kill the butcher thus indicating that one of our characters is not to be trusted?

Intersting that this all comes out before the high holy days. Hmm, its just going to be a wait and see one wed.

Ah, so you think Simon's going to die? Come to think of it, there are a lot of characters that could probably stand in for the Angel of Death. Cigarette? Spider?

What makes you think any of our characters are to be trusted? Most of them seem to have unsavory pasts...and presents. Wink

Yeah, the timing has been raising my eyebrows as well. I originally assumed that the fact that one of the characters was Israeli was more or less irrelevant, and of course I assumed that the fact that this was taking place right around the High Holy Days was also irrelevant, but now I'm starting to wonder. A lot of the characters seem to have stuff they could stand to atone for, you know? I'm intrigued, and starting to wonder if I should be looking for some biblical parallels with the characters.

I am def. thinking that simon is going to die and it feels that there is someone that we have or not discovered yet that is above or is cigarette and that will be an angel of death. But whoever it is we might need to warn Simon on Wed. using as much bad hebrew as possible. Too bad I wont be around for the fun with DIKDUK!

I trust people way too much than I really should.

I am going to have a long discussion with some of the rabbis in the area though I am sure they will resolve but taking out the talmud plus lively discussion. Oh I know what this game is about, its to get more people to go study talmud Laughing

Simon may not be around in the poker rooms this week - afterall, Rosh Hoshana started today. In 10 days we have Yom Kippur. I think playing poker would be a huge sin for someone as religious as Simon & Maurice appear to be (daily morning prayers).

But that won't stop me from using Shalom as my new greeting in the rooms for awhile. Might be interesting.

Generally, everyone doesn't need to chime in and say they also received the mail. threads are more of a heads-up than a me-too. Smile

If you receive an email which you haven't seen posted on the board, by all means post it. The safe assumption is that if it is not personally addressed to or talking to you, probably everyone else has gotten it also.

He wouldn't be in there anyways, he's not dead yet.

you have to be dead to be in the poker room? I never thought of that. My guess is that he is not going to make it through services but using shalom is def. a really good idea to see how the reactions are though i only think one person should do it and not everyone in the room, that could just get annoying to the character unless they are into it.

Yep. All the players appear to be dead. Which is why, for example, we haven't gotten to play with Lucy.

Well, I wouldn't just start shaloming random characters. Smile Simon or Maurice, yes, but they're still alive, so right now, it's sort of a moot point.

wait one second i just realised something really odd.

The profile says this

Quote:
"Mincha," Maurice agreed.
Simon got up and got the tefillin. He came back and Maurice took them and carefully wrapped Simon's arm, seven times. "Baruch Atah Adonai, elohainu, melech haolam, asher kidshanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu l'haniach t'fillin."

That can not be right.

Tefillin is not put on at mincha. It is way too late to put it on. If it was Shachrit it would be a totally different story. Simon is teaching Maurice but why was it still allowed when it was too late for it?

2 Theories:
1. the PM's got it wrong, which would seem odd due to the other Judaism references, which would suggest research has been done pretty well (although we'll see if it stays the same after Wed).
2. Simon is deliberately teaching Maurice the wrong thing as he does not believe him to be worthy of the Jewish religion as he has started observing the practices too late, or due to some older sin (nah, doesnt seem likely to me either, plus i'm pretty sure that Judaism is one of the religions that believes in a punishment in heaven for those that sin greviously and do not seriously repent, but i will admit my knowledge to be lacking there).

Or perhaps, because of Maurice's comparative inexperience as one who has "come so late to observance," he lays tefillin for each service, rather than for Shacharit and then leaving the tefillin on all day.

(I imagine Lucy's reaction might have been a bit different if Maurice had shown up wearing little straps wrapped around his arm and head. Mr. Green )

That would explain why it set my "death date" to when i first started playing
