 		[UPDATE] [Oct 2] Paris directory (binary puzzle)
The Paris page has a boatload of binary beginning the page. I don't think this is new, is it?
where does one truncate the digits? every 8, 10?

 		Well, every second is a blank character (00000000). Aligned correctly, you get one column with binary, but they don't make sense in column or from left to right. There must be something else here.
It seems that they have a fascination for substitution ciphers so my guess is, this is another one. Although on first glance none of those seem to repeat, right?

When the binary is converted to decimal you get the numbers 0-95 (out of order) and the last nine 58 34 29 8 48 82 8 64 58 which are all repeats. If you take the positions of these nine in the first past of the list you get 42 27 44 35 45 89 35 39 42. There are a number of ways to proceed, but one is to subtract 26 (letters in the alphabet?) to get 16 1 18 9 19 63 9 13 16 which using 1=A to 26=Z gives the answer with 63 (binary 111111) being a space. There is probably some underlying logic I don't see yet.

You lose me after the conversion-to-decimal-part...

VL is getting way to tough for me. It's all about weird codes and they all seem to be different.

1008.html and twofish.html seem to be connected again, because they have the same description. Probably the string on twofish is a key to the code on 1008.
Or maybe ALL of those codes have to be connected somehow.


Edit:
From TPrime's decoding of the cipher at conn.html I gather that for the cipher there "v" is a blank and "v8" is a period. The rest is simple substitution.
For the code on imp.html the same method could work, but there are too many characters (I count 36!) so there has to be either digrams or perhaps more punctuation like quotes and exclamation marks.
I tried to find a keyword like "Atlanta" or "VaporLofts"..."nxaE)mEi$]" might be a possible match for the latter.

Also interesting:

DEFx;$mxBl
DEFx;$mlxDF
They start with the same five letters...might be another candidate for "Vapor".

As a school teacher, I recognize the term "imperatives" to mean a statement of action, like "go away" or "bring me my shoes." Have we heard any key imperative phrases that might help us? Or does this refer to Mr. Parrish's agenda?

I am finding a desire for more story. Anyone else?

There are 105 numbers. The first 96 are 0-95 (not in order).

The last 8 (58 34 29 8 48 82 8 64 58) are repeats of numbers in the first 96.

If you take the position of each of the last 8 numbers in the first 96 you get:
58 is the 42nd number, 34 is the 27th number, 29 the 44th, etc.

So the positions of the final 8 numbers are: 42 27 44 35 45 89 35 39 42

If you add 38 to each you get: 80 65 82 73 83 127 73 77 80
which is ASCII for "PARIS IMP" (with 127, binary 1111111, being a space).

Or, you can subtract 26 and get: 16 1 18 9 19 63 9 13 16
which using A=1 to Z=26 (and 63, binary 111111, the space) also gives "PARIS IMP".

I can see why V and V8 would be seen as spaces and lines, but I'm completely lost as to the subsitution on conn.html. Can you explain it a bit better (maybe in PM if it's not needed publically) because I'd like to try my hand at this codebreaking, but can't quite figure out where the extra characters come from.

The characters are substituted for alphabetic letters, with the two exceptions you mentioned. There is no system for this, it's just random substitution of one character for a letter.
If you have specific questions you may ask TPrime, because he broke that cipher.

Thanks man, I might just ask TPrime. But also...

You might be on to something about twofish.html being a key of some sort, however, I think it's more connected to imp.html. The HTML comment says "REMEMBER YOUR IMPERATIVES," which could lead to imp.html. Plus, if you look at the letters in the string of 36 (some repeats) of twofish.html, they all show up on imp, rather than on 1008.html, which seems to be in a different code.

Does this help anyone crack it?

I haven't seen the decoded text from imp.html posted, so here it is:

Care should be taken to avoid interaction with any entities encountered. Allow the subject to interact freely as she chooses. Take extra precautionary measures before entering a portal via Gateway One in Atlanta.

Reminder, critical: It is imperative that no entities exit the gateway by "piggybacking" with you as a host.
