Channel 4 looking for British cryptology puzzlers I found this posted over at Quest4Treasure:
Quote:
I work for Princess Productions and we are developing a prime-time programme for Channel 4 in which members of the public will be asked to solve cryptic puzzles, poems and cyphers, which will be filming in famous historical sights around Europe (like in the Da Vinci code).
I am trying to find British people that might like to take part in the programme. I am particularly keen to get in contact with people with an interest in computer encryption as I would imagine they'd be good a cryptic puzzles. I wondered if you knew how I could go about contacting such individuals (UK only)? Because I am new to the world of cryptology enthusiasm I am unsure where to start... any pointers would be very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Kind Regards,
Jason

At first I thought they needed people to create the puzzles, but now it looks more like they need participants?

if it isn't, in advance

020 is a London area code, so not really. No worries.
Any of the British contingent thinking about going for this? I mean, I suck at puzzles... but it would be so cool to see a UFer rock it . In a manner of speaking.

Not in the slightest bit any good at codes etc, but like a good puzzle. However, I wonder if, in these european locations, they would equip us with laptop and internet access, irc, unfiction sidebar etc, cos if not, i'd be doomed!

I am so tempted just to go for it, even though I'm not very good at solving puzzles. I have a feeling uni will get in the way though. Stupid learning!

I sent Jason an email yesterday asking what I need to do to sign up, and he sent me one back asking for why I'd be good at it etc. So I sent him a reply and now i'm just waiting...........
They only want 10 people for the pilot, so if you want a chance, you better email Jason now!

*Boggly eyes* Much like this, in fact:
I am really tempted to drop an email to this guy too, but I suck at puzzles (although in the Da Vinci Code I frequently thought Langdon was being a twit, so maybe...).
And, like Xara, stupid uni threatens to scupper my aspirations
Bah, I might drop an email anyway. Couldn't hurt. Unless I get no degree...
Maybe I'll just cheer Russel on in front of the television

I got a reply about the format and since the series would be filming for 6 weeks in Feb-March it conflicts too badly with the uni year. Pity, because it sounds far too awesome for words, filming around Europe for weeks at a time. They're looking for people with good general knowledge and a 'specialist subject' of 'treasure hunts, cryptography, art history, classics, linguistics, literature, history' so it sounds like it'll be a pretty intelligent programme.

Cardiff is 02920.
I'll definitely watch this when it comes out, but it conflicts with all sorts of things, which is annoying. >.<;

I just wanted to drag this from the depths because I was speaking to Jason today at work and I'm going upto London tomorrow for a screen test, I was just wondering if anyone from UF is going tomorrow, or if they're going on Wednesday... Call me curious Betty

I missed this last month! Darn it.
Looks great, wish it didn't conflict in that filming schedule so much with Uni. Darn it. Darn it.
Ahh well.
