I was reading through the discovery of the new sites and remembered something, but don't think it has been mentioned yet. SHINPU and OFUDA (or o-fuda), are terms both related to items, in the Shinto religion, used to banish/seal/bind/protect from evil spirits (another name for such an object would be a GOFU.

So I was wondering why Vapor Lofts could be attempting to bind/contain such spirits, as they seem to be very intent on keeping them contained, as they have mentioned "breaches" and to beware of piggybacks. They appear to be studying the entities very closely, possibly in "their world" through the portal.

But what intrigue does Anne hold for them? Could the Shinpu Ofuda story on the london site be a metaphor for her. Do they believe her to have special significant in relation to these beings?
