I can't answer for j5, but we were discussing potential sponsors a week or so ago, and I mentioned that I had found an actor's page (as I'm sure lots did) that listed him as performing for an Activision game ("Johnny Deuces, Last Call Poker"). j5 then came back with his spec about its being Gun.
And that's all I know
That's a bit odd having to peek behind the curtain to get a tip for an ARG isn't it? Maybe there is some connection we missed between LCP and Gun, or else we weren't supposed to get the mark until later.
I have to say that the curtain has not exactly been screwed shut (yes I have screwed curtains shut before) and so far it has not even had all the stunning of puzzles. Its an interesting story building exersize so far, but as I have had problems playing the poker side of things, I am waiting for the other shoe to fall with this game. It still feels like a warm up so far. Im guessing the little Gun deck of cards clue was just to bring in another group of new gamers into the world of ARG before it was fully kicked off. Which we have seen before and makes perfect sence to me, and makes me excited for the comeing weeks! for now, I think ill go and bet all my cash on all in bets for the 3 hands that I will have before the game locks up on me!

You really don't need to buy anything. Most gamestop and Eb games are willing to give schwag away for free sometimes, and the very least if your pocketbook is stretched, call them up and just ask for the Mark, I know most the employees at mine and they don't mind one bit doing something like that. I doubt any others would be too much different.
I am still totally going to preorder the game tomarrow though. At first it didn't look all that good, but catching all the trailers on IGN, changed my mind completely, looks like it's gonna blow up.

Are they holding that particular deck for you for the next time you come in?

What if were not supposed to get the mark? Remember Lucky said something about catching cheaters. Maybe this is a way to determine who would be using a "marked deck". I dont really know where I am going with this but it was just an idea that maybe the mark isnt a good thing. As this could be seen as the mark of a cheater?

SPEC - johnny deuces = fish00k
I've been trying all sorts of john & jack combinations since fishook is slang for a jack). Probably is a card that exists but hasn't been released yet.

mark If it turns out that the Mark is a problem, which I don't think is likely, but if it is, all you have to do is edit your profile to take it off.

I always suspected that it was promo for a game, since it was advertised on GameSpy, but I'm disappointed that it's another shooter. Whatever happened to old-fashioned adventure games like King's Quest or Sam n' Max or Grim Fandango?
2 games for you to look at: Psychonauts (very fun, by Tim Schaefer, need more Americans to buy it so it gets a UK release!)
Farenheit (looks pretty good, wierd murder/mind-control/sexy-female-cop/adventure/multipe-character game (a 15 in the UK despite an in-plot sex scene (a la Hot Coffee) and the first scene seeing you elbow deep in blood and hiding a body)
Also I dont think the mark will be essential, as it would alienate any foreight players if the game is planned for a worldwide release.
Also also I doubt that the phone number field will ever include foriegn ones as i cant really see them wanting to pay the charges for the foriegn calls

Sorry to go so OT, but I have to second this. Psychonauts was super fun and really clever. Every level is really different and very creative. I highly recommend playing it.

Bummer, I called both my local GameStop and EB Games and while both have decks, neither will give them out without preorder for GUN. I have a PS/2 but only use it for Dance Dance Revolution (better than jazzercize or Tai Bo!) and to play PacMan world with my 5 yr old son. Unfortunately my scrupulous honesty (suspended for poker games of course) prevents me from submitting a false temporary pre-order! Maybe I can find a future GUN player who doesn't play LCP who will "lend" me their mark!

Pre-order is $5. Big deal.
If you don't pick up your preorder in 48 hrs, they will sell it to someone else.
(according to my receipt)

And you're supposed to be able to get the $5 back. (some employees will try to force you to roll it over onto another reserve though)

It's not dishonest if you pre-order and don't end up buying the game... that's how the system is supposed to work...

Well, not exactly. They partially use preorders to guage interest in a specific game at a specific store. So if I went to my local store and preordered 50 copies and then didn't pick them up, I'd really mess up their inventory and sales goals for the week.

Though buy pre-ordering and even buying this game, you really are helping promote more and better ARGs. The more successfull each one is, the more likely there are to be bigger, better ones in the future. (at least as far as the commercial end of them goes)
