Nicely played, kid.
I'll get back to you soon to let you know if you've played by my rules.
Either way, thanks for doing me a Small Favor-
The Dealer

---------------------------------

Regarding the hat - here is my hope:

I'm going to get the box & pack it up tomorrow (with a notebook that will travel along with it). I want to send it to San Francisco for those participating in the Tombstone event to all get their picture taken (and sign the notebook).

Then I'd really like someone who traveled there from out of town to bring the hat back with them (and take pictures with other members back home) then get it off to someone in Washington DC in time for that Tombstone event - same deal - give folks a chance to get their picture with the hat (and sign the notebook).

Following the Washington DC event will someone please send it on to the UK to someone who will arrange a gathering in your own version of Tombstone Poker (same story - pictures, sign the notebook, etc) and then send it onward. Do we have a contingent in Europe (a common gathering spot)? This gives us about two weeks to get around the old world - I'm not sure we can continue going East through New Zealand & Australia and then South America fast enough - or can we? This will take lots of postage and airmail to make it happen.

My only caveat about this world traveling is how to make sure it gets back to someone in Los Angeles in time for the last Tombstone event on Nov 19th. Can we do this?????

After that, we can help it criss-cross back and forth across the states for the rest of the year. As long as it eventually ends up back in Las Vegas (and I"ll bring it out for the holy swag altar every ARGFest).

Edit to add:
hmrpita answered the call first - the hat will travel to SF on Tuesday.

Keep checking back to this post for updates.

Mods - please pull this post and create a new thread for me to keep track of the hat - where it is really going. Keep the current thread for those who want to keep adding to the "I'll host the had and send it onward" posts. Thanks!

-----------------------------------------------------------

Use this thread to write about and post pictures of yourself when you receive the hat, and what you have done with it (shipment tracking numbers, expected next hop, etc.)

For requests to receive the hat, PM konamouse with your information. Don't post Hat requests in this thread!

A NOTE: To everyone on the International routes, or asking for the hat in a Rest of the World country. To get the hat back in LA in time, we MUST use the fastest courier service availalbe.

That means if you want the hat, you must be willing to spend anywhere between $40 to $80 for shipping to the next destination. I recommend we only use DHL, UPS, TNT, or FedEx. They are expensive, but anything else is too risky. If you are willing to make that commitment then please contact konamouse.

If you are scheduled to receive a shipment please make sure you are available on that day to sign for it, or else it will be kept with the couriers until the day after. We can't afford to lose a day for no reason.

Once you have received the hat, you can post about it here, along with details about the next step and the shipment tracking number so that everyone knows where it is. Please make sure it gets out within 24 hours, unless you are organizing some sort of event for multiple ARGers.

With a high estimate of 3 days per hop, that only leaves us with 8 International destinations, so don't feel bad if you don't get it to your country. (Although we might be able to work something out if we are ahead of schedule, and maybe we'll do another slower 1-year tour afterwards).

Remember, no Post office airmail for this baby! Next day courier service only!

While the Hat is in the Washington event, please ask all people taking a photo with the hat to chip in for the outgoing UK shipment.

If there is enough pictures that I can use possibly some video if someone hosts all of that material I can always try my hand at some editing in final cut pro. I'd have to find music or if anyone had music that is royalty free that would be awesome. But anyway you guys get me the resources I might be able to produce the hat tour video.

Please do not POST requests, suggestions, etc. Those interested in hosting hat events need to PM me.

This thread is for posting the pictures and information about where the hat is and was.

Thank you.

Hat World Tour

As you can see, The Hat's first stop on the Hat World Tour was (as I said to Lucky in my email to him with the pic) "MargaritaVille, which as any good ParrotHead knows, is in the State of Mind" Smile

On to the next lucky recipient!

Remember, this is for the hat world tour. If you want to be on the list, please PM me (do not post).

Hat has been sent on it's way to San Francisco.

Shipping Fed Ex 2nd = $13.28. Overnight would have been over $30.
Going overseas will be more costly. Please make sure you are willing to make that committment.

Remember the customs form when it goes international (and Lucky wants it to get out of the states according to my email below).

Quote:
The living forget, but the dead remember. I will remember what you've done for me.

You'll be getting a little something from me, a mark of my appreciation for everyone to see.

It's great, you sending a photo of you and the hat. Las Vegas isn't the most exotic locale, but it's a start. Could you pass the word? Send the hat on its way around the world. Have it go to all the exotic spots Victor should have had a chance to see.

What you're doing for Victor—you have no idea how grateful the dead can be. You made the kid happy, helped me tell my story, and maybe restored a bit of an old man's faith in humanity.

Lucky

So, take your pictures in exotic locations!!

Update on The Dealer's response to me regarding the Hat:

Here's what I sent (along with the pic above): Hi Lucky!

Konamouse and I met at Margaritaville, which as any good ParrotHead knows, is in the State of Mind Smile We celebrated my son's 21st birthday, had Cheeseburgers in Paradise, and Margaritas with The Hat, and then took a picture of me with it as proof. I hope this makes Vic a little happier knowing that his Hat had a great party time at Margaritaville.

Here's the response:

I appreciate a good effort. Too bad you didn't make Vic very happy. He was really hoping to see that hat out in the world in a new city, a new country, visiting the sights instead of being in some darkened room. Kept going on about a gnome in some French movie...Emily or something. That boy loves his movies.

Hey, don't fold yet! Feel free to give it another shot.

Always appreciate a Favor-

The Dealer

... and checking the profile, no Hat Tour credit. Oh well.

So I guess the lesson learned is: Take pictures of the hat in sunny outdoor places. Also, the "gnome in some French movie... Emily or something" is a reference to "Amélie" - In the film, Amélie conspires with a flight attendant to send her father's gnome on a world tour - complete with photographs of the gnome at foreign landmarks - to inspire him to travel.

::: sigh :::

It seems like the world tour is mainly for the benefit of those outside the U.S. A chance for them to get some interaction, even if it is only with a hat. I am guessing if celina didn't get any credit, only people outside of the country will.

I suppose that might be true, but I am guessing that if I were to pose with the hat by Buckingham Fountain in Chicago, for example, instead of in my (undoubtedly cool) living room, I'd get credit.

I think the point is just to get out there with the hat.

I think Lucky/victor were referencing the movie Amelie (UK title) who's most memorable quote is usually referenced as "It's better to help people than garden gnomes".

Perhaps he would like to see the hat in Paris, specifically in Montmartre. If someone gets to play poker with Vic today, you might want to ask.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/

EDIT: Oops...missed Celine's reference to Amelie already. Sorry.

Where did that hat come from, anyway? Considering the shipping costs and time, it might be cheaper and faster to have new hats shipped directly (and one way) to each photo op.
