Was in Angel again this afternoon. Decided to take a look at that monument. Took some photos of all the sides, but they're bad enough that you can't read the inscriptions on the sides. If this hasn't been said before, this is what was on the four sides:

My country is my world and my religion is to do good (North)

Lay then the axe to the root and teach governments humanity(East)

It is necessary for the happiness of man that he is mentally faithful to himself(South)

These are the times that try men's souls (West, side with the key)

Somehow don't think this is useful in anyway, but I get the feeling some of you just like to know things.

Oh yeah, and with regards to the Scooby Doo thing, it's just a Sky poster for the Boomerang channel, and there are others around the tube network that I've seen.

Just got a reply from a very nice lady at the University of East Anglia about this year's Thomas Paine Lecture. If you remember, it occurs every 2 years and is sponsored by an endowment made in 1970. The last one was in October 2003 and the title was 'No Paine, No Gain". There didn't appear to be one scheduled for this year, so I emailed the UAE to enquire about it:

Hi there

Would you happen to have any information on this year's 2005 Thomas Paine Lecture? I know it's held every 2 years at the UEA and that the last one was in October 2003, so I wanted to know if there is one scheduled for this year...

Thanks in advance

Law

And they replied:

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the Thomas Paine Lecture. It is taking place on Thursday 20th October 2005 at 7.00 pm the speaker this year is John Pilger, Journalist and documentary film maker and the title of his lecture is 'Propaganda and Silence in the War on Terror'. The lecture will be held in Lecture Theatre 1 at UEA and admission is free. There is no need to apply for tickets but if you could let me know how many people will be attending I will add your name and number of seats required to the enquiry list as we have received a very good response to the event and this will ensure that you will have a seat in the main lecture theatre.

Kind regards

Joyce

So it IS on again this year after a 2 year gap, and it's 3 days after the full moon. I don't think it's directly related to our quest, but isn't it a weird coincidence? What are the odds of it being in this exact week?

Keep on looking

Law of Five

PS It does feel a bit funny to involve an 'ordinary' person from the 'real' world in our little quest without their knowledge and I feel a bit bad that I won't be attending the lecture after they were kind enough to give me the information. Maybe I should send Joyce a link to this thread (although I'm afraid it might blow her mind!)

Yeah, nice reconnaissance tour, DeadDude Very Happy - but I also think that you're probably right in that the writings on the monument aren't what we have to find, but like you said, some of us just like to know Laughing

So back to the twistings and turnings of the 1-9-7-0 - frankly I have no idea, and my head feels like it weighs a ton today, so I think I'll be joining those sitting on the bench.

I tried to look at 1970 combined with constitution, but there were just too many countries with 1970-constitutions or amendments for it to make any sense. And maybe 1970 isn't even meant to be a year??

The only connection those numbers give me in relation to the rest of the picture is that Paine began writing Rights of Man in 1790, but we've already mentioned that earlier, and I think that if that was it, we would have been given a new page or something.

Starting to wonder if we have to find a completely different link between the elements in the picture (picture of Paine, the arrow with "of man", the key and number) and the other references (leftor, noburke, constitution) than the road we've been travelling so far?? Confused

Oh, Thank GOODNESS! A plane crashed near our town and took out my internet provider and phone company's fiberoptic lines. I've been incommunicado all weekend due to this.

I have come across an interesting common thread that keeps appearing during my search for the 1790, 1970, Thomas Paine, and Burke.

The link between all of this could be: Freemasons. It appears I keep being brought back to Paine's "The Origin of Freemasonry" and to atheist sites. Now, If all religions are being represented in this game, then shouldn't atheist beliefs be part of it as well?

Here's an example:

along the mason line of things the protrator (compass) in the statue is also used by the masons.

http://www.freedomdomain.com/freemason.html

also this website has a description of masonic stuff. about half way down the significance of the number 13 to the free masons is explained.
