Yeah, could be something like that. Orkid suggested something similar in her journal (I'll just copy and paste it so we have all the info in one place)
Quote:
We've all tried every possible keyword that springs to mind, to no avail. So I'm guessing it must be a key that we have to physically go and collect from the monument, at the time indicated
One the one hand I can see this being what we need to do, but on the other the "keyword correct" message does seem to indicate that the keyword has actually mentioned at some point just like some of you have been suggesting – hmmmm…but which one is it?? Razz

To kitkatgirl: Is the new page that you're having trouble seeing the one with the key and the codeword that needs to be entered or the one some were fortunate enough to get a glimpse of yesterday? If it's the first one, have you tried going to the triskabiblios.com page and just going through book zero from page 1 right on through as many pages as you can click?

edit: also what is the angel monument for and what does the key represent? is it something that was lost and found?

I think someone mentioned that the angel monument is at the location of the original Angel Inn, but I'm getting seriously confused about the various pubs and inns and can't figure out if The Angel pub from the wikipedia isn't the original one after all. But if the original one is where the monument is, then it can't really be can it? Confused

No idea about what the key represents, but could be a reference to the one Paine was given by LaFayette to give to Washington as someone Moongazer mentioned, but it could just as easily be something else

I just have to say that you guys are all absolutely AMAZING! The only time I can work on this is for a few minutes in the morning when I come into work and get ready for my work day. So I read all of these great discoveries and think, "geez, I wish I had time to add to the hunt!" But I'm glad there's such great folks on Team Islington Wink

I think the freemason line is the right way of thinking. This is a quote from the site MG found:

"The Latin code of gematria is the key that unlocks the meaning of some of Freemasonry's greatest secrets. It does this both in conjunction with the codes for Hebrew and classical Greek and more especially by virtue of the fact that it also provides the means to procure the cabalistic coding of English." (from http://www.masoncode.com/The%20Jewels%20of%20Freemasonry.htm)

Perhaps the numbers 1790 or 1970 refer to a word and those numbers are the words' values. So I'm on the hunt . . .

Just a quick reflection on our current problem. We need something to put in the box and press the button 'I found the key'. As I see it, we have three options:

1. The key is a code and the answer lies in Masonic codes / base 36 / kaballah / rot 13 and is derived from something we have been given on one of the pages eg. 1790pm. Example answer: HLWMA7

2. The key is a word which came up on this forum yesterday, leading Iz to tell us 'keyword correct'. So we just need to enter every word from yesterday into the box, one by one. Any volunteers? Laughing (Ever wish you posted _less_?) Example answer: Lafayette

3. The key is an actual key which will be available at the monument to Paine at 6:30pm local time next Sunday in London. If ThatDeadDude is willing to go to Islington on a non-work day and see what happens, we'd all be forever grateful, but there is a major chance that nothing will happen. Example answer: whatever is written on the clue at the monument.

A combo of 1. and 2. is possible, where it's a word we've encountered which must be encoded, most likely in rot-13 before entry. Incidentally, 'thekey' in rot-13 is 'gurxrl' and it doesn't work.

I think we've mostly exhausted option 1. in terms of pure code, unless MG can work some magic with the kaballah. 1790pm doesn't give us the answer in the various combos of base 26, 36 or base 10 that I've tried and it's '1790cz' in rot-13 (the transform doesn't work on numbers), which is not the keyword. Anyway, it's a WORD we're looking for.

If it is option 3. after all, then NOTHING will happen to the site for the next 5 days or so, until the deadline on Sunday passes. So I guess time will tell.

Rogi:
Lately it occurs to me..... What a long, strange trip it's been.

It's only going to get stranger. Remember, this is Book Zero of Thirteen, and all the books will not be reunited until 2013. That means we have 8 years to get to know each other, guys... Rolling Eyes

Thinking about the key on Paine's monument: what does it represent? The key to the Bastille seems likely, but it's a different shape. More likely it's a metaphorical key, used to symbolise how Paine's writings set man free from tyranny.

And where exactly is the monument in relation to the Old Red Lion, the Angel Inn, etc? It's in Angel Square, as far as I know. I did post some details on this a few days ago, so I'll try and dig it out again to straighten out the Islington geography for us all, unless someone else gets there first. Off to work now,

Best wishes

The only problem with this way of thinking is that those numbers aren't an esclusive hash. Any number of words can easily be written as those numbers through the Masonic code because letters can be repeated. It's a nice thought, I'll see if there are any automatic converters on the web, but otherwise it's just too many words to imagine.

PS. Paine wasn't a Mason.

But he wrote a short pamphlet called Origin of Freemasonry which is freely available online. Does anyone want to go through it closely to see if it contains a clue?

Mountain Girl here, I'm at school, so I can't log on.

Thomas Paine WAS a mason, of the highest order.

Quote:
Thomas Paine and Benjamin Franklin were members of the Council of Three which is the highest Masonic 'octopus' degree in any one country although there may well be supranational organizations of higher import

Yeah, it's in Angel Square, which so far as I could tell was a sort of office block thing. The monument's in a publicly accessible courtyard. It's between Islington High Street and Torrens Street, on the corner with City Road.
Red Lion's a bit South, around Owen Street IIRC. It's a bit of a mess at the moment as they're doing some construction in the immediate area.

Regarding your comment:
"Anyway, it's a WORD we're looking for."
I didn't see anything in any of IZ' replies that would indicate that was true.
I too, missed the window on the HTML page, yesterday, but from what I gather, it seemed like Iz was again, appologizing for his mess-up with the numbers.

I can build a VBS (MSIE, only) page for gematria conversion of text entries, but most of my day, today is gonna be spent researching and reporting on a system problem for the folks who pay the bills.
If there any folks that can do something similar in javascript or another language, more folks may be able to use it.

Rogi, I could easily make a quick program in C++ for it during lunch but the problem still remains that I'd need to feed it a dictionary of words to check if came up with anything. I'll see what I can do, but there's no promises. I will make one using the information provided in MG's post.

Looks like we won't have to bother.
See OrKid's latest Blog entry.

And now I see your comment back to OrKid.

I'm in agreement that it'll be a physical meeting that will get us the keyword. Then whoever it is at the meeting (ThatDeadDude, perhaps, or Graeme) will enter in the keyword and open up the next realm of possibilities with 13Books.

Orkid said: "The hunt for Book Zero is hotting up, only 6 days to go. We've been getting clues like Chinese Water Torture, a steady drip drip drip to feed our enthusiastic speculation. So here's my 2 cents worth... The Key page has a picture of the Tom Paine memorial in Islington, some Japanese writing (solved by shylilembrace to read Sunday) and a password field.
We've all tried every possible keyword that springs to mind, to no avail. So I'm guessing it must be a key that we have to physically go and collect from the monument, at the time indicated. Maybe we'll get it by trial and error, but it could be a rare or even non-existant word. So... is anybody free on Sunday???"
