here's my candidate letter
Quote:
Hey Violet ...

Thanks fFor looking into that book fFor us! We're all really thankful, over here.

Say uhm, have you heard fFrom Scarlett recently? She was sending us messages -- sort of "wish you were here, the weather is nice" sorts of things -- but she hasn't sent anything lately. She updated her blog on the third, which I guess isn't that long ago, but we haven't really heard anything substantial in, I don't know, a while. So we're all sort of wondering if she's okay. She last mentioned heading into the Tanraga mountains, near the Sleed fForest, a bit East of Absent Woods & Wentome Hills. I don't know if there's any way for you to contact her, but I think you should be able to send her some key-mail or something.

I'm sure she's fFine, but uhm, maybe you could drop her a line, say howdy?

Cheers!
--Scott, Earth

*votes for Scott's letter to be e/keymailed on Friday night or Saturday morning* Very Happy I say e/keymailed since... we'll send an email... and she'll get a keymail... at what point does it cross over into keymailness? Shocked *brain explodes*

*crosses her fingers that Violet will be safe, since she's the coolest character*

i still don't think we should be sending anyone in tbh, BUT if you really have to, at least wait til tomorrow
and, for that matter, i'm not sure about the vague wording, yeah it gets us out of trouble for not telling on scarlett, but since we've kinda already told on her anyway, why not go the whole hog and actually let violet know what type of dangerous situation she (or anyone else who goes after scarlett) could be getting themselves into. right now we're potentially just sending another sister into a trap unprepared. if you are so concerned for scarletts safety, why not violet's (who is yes, much cooler, but also on the verge of an important discovery) as well?

rach =)

I agree with spuggy about being more open.

I'll repost my candidate letter here:

Code:
Violet,

I'm wondering when you last heard from your sister. I ask because she has been keeping us up to date on her hiking holiday, and the last message we received from her was a little 'strange'.

Without going into too many details I think that she is in a hospital, but doesn't seem to be very seriously wounded. She asked us not to tell anyone where she was, but I suspect that was because she thinks (like all children think when they misbehave) that if your father finds out, he will be angry at her for doing something silly.

You on the other hand, I think already understand what its like to be in that position, worrying about whether he is going to find out your a librarian or something :) You're probably the best person to understand what its like being the Master's daughter, and offer some sisterly advice.

So, like I've already said, I'm sure its nothing, but just in case it isn't you're the person she is most likely to listen to, and no doubt you know all the right sort of people to help her out without your dad finding out :)

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Jakeo

and my reasoning behind it
Quote:
[*]Everyone likes a bit of flattery, so saying nice things is going to be received well
[*]Honesty works! We're worried about Scarlett, so lets say that. Do we want to make a big deal of it? NO! so lets say that
[*]Scarlett's her sister, if anyone is going to understand its her
[*]Violet seems like the sort of person capable of doing something about this, without making a fuss about it

I just checked Scarlett's blog and lo and behold no Friday update. Send that well thought letter to Violet post haste. before somone with less tact receives more info on the hospitalization.

Traditionally Scarlett's messages have been sent in the afternoon. I think we should give her at least until then to get something out to us.

The main question for me is why none of her friends appear to have gotten in touch with her family either. Maybe she has sworn them all to secrecy? Although Brede doesn't seem like the sort of person who would listen to a hospitalized friend if he thought it wasn't in her best interests.

I like Scott's drafted keymail, (I say keymail Mokey, because that is what Violet will recieve.) and I do agree that we could wait until tonight or tomorrow, but I do have 1 further point that I think we should include.

When Scarlett contacted us on 3rd October she mentioned that she may be out of key range, I believe we should give Violet this information because then she is less likely to worry if she doesnt get a reply, and therefore less likely to go after her sister and put herself in harms way.

Just a thought,

I haven't been following this - but my understanding is that Scarlett is already in trouble...how can we make her situation worse by letting her sister know about it?

its 16:15, I've just checked Scarlett's site, and we still have no update.

As far as I can remember, I've always had an update from her before I leave work on a Friday, so if we haven't heard anything from her by 17:00 I think we should get in touch.

I'm happy to do this, and phrase it in a very 'this is my opinion, very personal, most people don't think I should be doing this...' style. That way if its a mistake, anyone else can go to Violet and apologise to her for my behaviour, and condemn me as a most loathesome individual etc. etc.

Does this seem reasonable?

Sometimes she doesn't update her Viendenbourg tale until Monday, you know...

I still think i'd be a mistake to tell anyone...

The Future's section in the Sentinel for Scarlett's b'day is

The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
A sudden surge of piousness this week leaves you wondering if you have any idea what you're doing with your life. Don't worry, it's going to pass by Sunday and leave you your old, heretical self.

So I think that we should leave it till after the weekend, and see if all return's to normal

(just my .02c)

Ha, thats great. I can't believe how happy I am that we got an update from her. (personal thought: thats unexpected).

I'm glad I hung around late in the office just in case Smile, and now pledge to yield to more experienced voices whenever they speak. Smile

Strangely, I did get a call from Iona at the Sentinel saying they'd had some tip-off that I was hurt, but I was able to reassure her that it was nothing serious. I guess journalists really do get to hear everything!
