(13:15:15) KotakuEditor: yes it was 4orty2wo

(13:15:27) KotakuEditor: who did the ai and ilovebees campaigns

If it isn't 42, they're trying hard to pretend they are.

Do a traceroute and look at the last two hops, they end in the same VLAN. And yes, it is hosted by the fine Fanatical people at Rackspace.

I had a fake e-mail here and a couple of people asked me if it was real. No, it wasn't real and I'm editing it out to avoid further confusion.

This could be 42.. so let's just wait and see what happens when the countdown is over.

It doesn't really matter whether its 42 or not... except of course to avoid being frustrated by another origen/ourcolony.

As a Meta aside: Do you think the viral countdown campaigns negatively influence mainstream perception of ARG and ARG-like games?

Anyone heard/seen anything related to the Syracuse game? The others haven't started yet but are starting soon.

Well....

They do sort of take away from the efforts that others have made to create unique and exciting launches ("Urban Hunt"), which is, in my humble opinion, the best part of the ARG. That's usually where you question the "reality" aspect of it. A countdown just doesn't seem to carry the same weight as a break in at a local car show at which a certain model car was stolen.

Countdowns as disappointing as the Origen site certainly take something away from the phenomena, especially since that lacked the "story" aspect that makes this kind of thing interesting. Hopefully the hex168 site countdown is marking the beginning of something rather than being the entirety of the marketing effort as Origen was.

Ummm...

Okay, stupid question time...

Does anyone who saw "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" happen to remember the Roman Numerals that were on the floor of the library?

These look very familiar but I can't place where I've seen them before. But I think it was in that movie. And it's been so long since I've seen it that I can't recall what the purpose for the numbers was.

If anyone can confirm this and tell me the answer, that would be great. Thanks.

EDIT: Nm... just found them in the script. III, VII and X... not the same.

Re the Hex168 site - this Lutz fellow says he lives in a Bunker Complex. Microsoft is based out of Washington. There is a Bunker, Washington.

Area Code for Bunker, WA: 360

He also says he's miles under the Saskatchewan crust. Saskatchewan Area Code: 306.

Coinkidink?

Not sure is this is just a coincidence or not especially since any kind of numeralogical combinations should be in military time rather than standard BUT, The numbers at the end of the countdown (10/18 at 2PM) when multiplied (10x18x2 = 360)

Maybe something to think about...

Guys, come on... focus on this one. This guy seems to have just spelled part of it out for us because we weren't getting it, I guess.

"Hex alert: e-seer prefers yetis" is the anagram for "free pre-release threesixty". Look at the letters. It works out.

So it's now quite obvious that it's a contest for getting a free pre-release 360, especially when you couple that with the whole bit about "reward them with a physical manifestation of the power of Hex 168". "Hex 168" has been shown to mean 360 (in decimal), so once again they are saying they will be giving out some 360's.

But I guess I don't understand what he is saying about "The 'of' of the Anagram is not a match." Is there another anagram on that page? Is the whole heading "Hello. This is Dr. Jason Q. Lutz from my bunker complex miles below the crust of Saskatchewan.", yet another complete anagram? I think he is perhaps saying to simply exclude the "of" from that heading and start re-arranging letters. Unfortunately, I stink at anagrams. One thing I quickly note, that phrase has no 'y' in it to once again form the words "threesixty". So maybe it isn't another anagram, or it just says something completely different.

The pics where taken at 1:00 6:00 and 8:00pm

I'd like to amend that anagram.

Makes more sense don't it?

You know guys, the moment anagrams came into play, I could almost swear that the use of the word "nigh" had a meaning here. I mean it's not a common word at all, is it?

So I tried a couple of combinations, and some of them made sense. But one that impressed me quite a bit was...

"Beginning Eighth Sin"

Now that's a weird one. For in almost every religion, there are 7 sins which are deemed Deadly. When this particular phrase came up, I thought "Wow. If these guys are going to come up with a new deadly sin, this should prove to be a good game!"

But actually, I don't really think it feasible that this anagram is the one intended, if there was one to begin with. Unless, of course, it's the name of a new XBOX game. Who knows?!! I just share I should share this.

Anyway, maybe some of us should come up with a couple more anagrams to analyze.

More fun 'the beginning is nigh' anagrams!

I don't know what to think about Beginning Eighth Sin, it could be an anagram as it sounds cryptic enough and does relate to something biblical, which is becoming a cliche among them.
