I've updated the wiki

According to the software I'm using, this takes the list of possible answers down to only 8. Now all we need to do is work out what it's for (if anything!).

If there are only 8 possible answers then why has no-one found anything yet, there must be something, what we really need is the last of the letters at the end.

Ya know, maybe since this puzzle can go unsolved because of the neglect of card owners, MC might be willing to tell us at least some of the letters/numbers, this thing has been running for a while, it's worth a try as there isn't much else to do right now as far as I can see.

Possible Letters

Just off the top of my head, based on what has already been posted, the missing letters would most likely spell out:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
SUDOKU ***E PATRICK AZ and the missing four-letter word is, IMHO, most likely GAME. So, it's Patrick Az's sudoku game. Figure out the right solution, then figure out how to send it to Patrick Az, yes?

Too lazy to crawl out of the lurker's shadows long enough to figure out how to do this, but hope it helps.

So is it that simple, do we just e-mail our 8 possible answers to sente's assistant and hope one's right?

I emailed Patrick back when when we first discovered it was a Sudoku, asking if he knew anything about it and what we should be doing with it. I never got a response.

As for the missing letters, it has often been suggested that they spell "SUDOKU CODE", indicating that the correct grid is arranged in such a way that it somehow contains another deeper message. This may not be very likely, but it's possible considering that this message isn't very useful as it is.

Well then, could someone put all 8 solutions on the wiki in grid format?

This is a REALLY long shot but.....

Is there ANY chance at all that this is linked to card #238? (Riemann).

Is there any way we can tell if one of the 8 solutions is a prime?

The reason I ask is that there seems to be a theme within that of 3s (especially when you look at the word tretretretres on the back - 3 3 3 3).

Is it possible that the 3 3 3 3 is supposed to point to a sudoko type problem? Maybe it's a 3x3 grid within a set of 3x3 grids?

Like I say, long shot but.....

It's also possible that the number of digits in the longest known (at the time) prime is somehow relevant here. Maybe.....

Ok, been fiddling some more.

Found a program on the web:

http://www.sudokusolver.co.uk/

Which seems to think that this:

243786951918543726765921438527618349386492175491375862674859213852134697139267584

Is the most likely answer, although it admits that there are possibly more answers. This actually fits our string number 2.

I'm going to work with this as my answer and see if that gets me anywhere.

I couldn't see anty mention ot this before but is it possible that the text at the end of the code spells out sudoku cube? I found this website while browsing for sudoku solvers:

http://www.mathrec.org/sudoku/

I can't see how it would work with only numbers but I thought it was too good a connectionto ignore.

further reading on the site reveals code-duko which is also quite interesting

Possibility of using the sudoku solution and replacing the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 with the letters p, a, t, r, i, c, k, z and then reading the sudoku box like a wordsearch to something hidden.

Nothing can be discovered till we get the rest of the letters though.
