Allow me to first say: if at all possible, try to avoid missing two updates in a row. Seriously, at all costs. Catching up is brutal.

Now, let's go on to what happened Wednesday. We'll tackle the WWII story first.

There is a train that will carry all kinds of people from Nuremberg to Russia: journalists, perhaps former captives/prisoners, agents and soldiers that fell out of favor/collaborated with Allies [without sanction], civilians that did something/anything within the German territory the Soviets didn't like, people that did business with "capitalists", etc. All of these people are to be prosecuted by the Soviet government on various "political" charges.

Capt. Reed was drinking heavily and still sobbing over the fate of his agent/friend who was on that train. Johnny Whitecloud ran into Reed at the bar at Metropole. Reed and Whitecloud quickly became friends over drinks, and Reed asked Whitecloud to help him steal the train. Naturally, Whitecloud agreed.

Now, about that hanging that Otto Griff witnessed. Otto's cronies caught two refugees (well, they caught three, but they killed one of them rather quickly) who heard the SD officer promise the crowd a large amount of money in exchange for his life. Whitecloud rescued the refugees - a priest named Mueller, and a boy named Martin and brought them to hotel Metropole.

Mueller turns out to be an informant for the Russians - namely, for one Svetlana Yugrina. Svetlana catches wind of already having been reported as someone who "had contact with foreign officers", and now her already bleak future gets even... bleaker. So, when Mueller tells her that he knows of a large fascist loot, she gets very interested (as that means that she may have enough money to flee the occupation zone and end up as far as North America).

Meanwhile, Whitecloud's and Reed's plan to steal the Nuremberg train fails - their fake paperwork doesn't have the approval of - you guessed it - Svetlana. Despaired, they return to Metropole and are approached by Martin, who seems to be the only person that actually knows the location of the loot. Plan B becomes - bribe Svetlana with the loot money into letting the train go. However, upon meeting, Svetlana disagrees. The trio ends up settling on a "gamble for human lives" poker game: winner takes the loot, and each person that beats Svetlana saves a single life off that train. What a nifty idea.

Otto Griff continues to do his slimy things: he has Martin and Mueller watched, and he also finds out about the poker game and wants in. For money, of course - what is he going to do with refugees? Svetlana, having refused to cooperate with Otto, fears that the Americans won't, and orders Mueller to kill Whitecloud (apparently, Reed is not worthy enough an opponent to bother with). When she threatens him with his brother's life, Mueller agrees and diligently executes the murder. Unfortunately for him, Maurice Pikar hears the shot, and, finding Mueller kneeled over Whitecloud's lifeless body, kills Mueller with Whitecloud's gun. The Gun. Yeah. Whitecloud got the Gun from an army buddy - a "Nebraska lawman" heir.

Enter Lucky. He sees Maurice shoot Miller, and, since Maurice was in enough trouble for killing Germans post-capitulation, decides to take the rap for the murder. This is how he gets the Gun - the murder weapon.

Lucky, who was asked by Reed to participate in the game, now can't - he is "in the stockades". But before that happened, Lucky offered Reed plenty of uF/LCP people's help.

The game was played on LCP - Svetlana lost, Thunderclap8 won. Svetlana is now working up an escape plan with fake Croatian documents. We will leave her to that.

Not to forget Jerry: Mitzie (the girl he's in love with) is a morphine addict. As Otto's man Ernst offers Jerry proof of this sad fact, Mitzie shoots Ernst. And though Jerry offered Mitzie to cover for her, she refused. Mitzie is off to jail now, and this is why Jerry is "bawling his eyes out at Metropole" when Lucky gets the Gun.

And now for the last twist: the 11-year-old Martin is actually a girl, apparently named Maria Halder. So far, Lucky and Maurice seem to be the only people to know that. Maria fled her father's house with her Uncle (Mueller), while her parents ended up on the Nuremberg train. Maria's Father's life was lost in the poker game, and we don't know what happened to her Mom.

Meanwhile, in real life...

... William finally gives Lucy Simon's envelope. Along with Maurice's WWII notes and photos, the envelope contains Robert's murder photos that Victor took. Lucy also finds Corazon's address on the envelope.

... Johnny Deuces pawns the Gun - no, he isn't that dumb; he just figured that would be a good way to hide it. It wasn't. Pawnshop owner phones Tony Viet, and, in lieu of Tony, tells Matt that he has the gun that so many people have been looking for lately.

... McPherson finds Tony Viet and hangs him.

That's about it for Wednesday, unless I'm forgetting something, and I hope to get through today's updates tomorrow.

Here's Saturday's stuff, starting with 2005.

Lucy found Corazon. They had a very heartfelt talk, and it looks as though Corazon eventually agreed to help Lucy.

At the same time, Simon found Kerry (remember, Kerry is the guy who killed Maurice, Simon's sensei). We are not sure how he found him, but, since Lucy knows about it, I wonder if she actually helped Simon with that (after Corazon told her).

After Matt finds out that Tony is dead, he does three things: goes to the pawn shop and gets the Gun; calls Benito Rojas (that's the [FBI] guy that was originally after him); and meets Clay.

It turns out that McPherson actually found out about the Gun through Lothar, whom Don arrested in 1996 in some very loose connection with the Oklahoma City bombing. While Lothar was babbling his crazy stuff, he told McPherson that there is "a Gun and diamonds".

So, pay close attention now, because this is how we get to 1929 Chicago: first, in the best-spec-ever, missphinx connected the Nebraska lawman's son who gave Whitecloud the Gun and Al Capone; second, Lothar tracked someone named Richardson who had the Gun in 1929.

So, in 1929...

... Richardson is some kind of law enforcement, and he went to Chicago (we don't know from where, and we don't know why). He went to a place called 4 Deuces (your regular under-the-table sex, drinks, and cabaret). For some unknown reason, he has a carte blanche from Mr. Capone himself. Everything pretty much seems to be revolving around Four Deuces now.

... There are 3 gangsters that seem to be running the place: Jack McGurn, Mickey Ross, and Jake Guzik. They are Al Capone's people.

... Mickey Ross was involved in the Valentine's Day Massacre. One of the victims was an Uncle of Pete Schwimmer. Schwimmer now wants revenge.

... He goes to 4Deuces and gets badly beaten up. A guy named Armageddon Jones picks him up outside the joint and brings him to his place. After Pete tells him his troubles, Armageddon suggests that Pete goes the legal route and starts collecting evidence that could help put Jack McGurn (who set up the the shooting) away. For example, McGurn's alibi was a certain blonde whom he married so that she wouldn't have to testify against him.

Keep in mind that Lucky lived in Chicago before WWII, that his Uncle, Seamus, was a policeman there, and that Maurice is also from Chicago. See you Wednesday.

[EDIT: changed Mickey to McGurn]

Wednesday:

"Richardson" turned out to be another alias for Two-Gun Hart - Vincenzo Capone, Al's brother. He is law enforcement (in Nebraska, he served as a Prohibition agent). Al Capone was spending most of 1929 in jail, where he somehow found out that his guys back home are planning a revolt against him. He asked Vincenzo to go to Chicago and make sure that nothing happens to his wife and son.

When Vincenzo got to Four Deuces, he ran into Anita - part-time singer, part-time Al's informant. Anita overheard a conversation between McGurn, Ross, and Guzik - they are planning to blow up Al's car as it takes off from the train station when Al returns from prison back to Chicago. Al's wife and kid would also be in the car, as they, naturally, will go to the train station to welcome him home. While McGurn and Guzik are not too thrilled about this, Ross, who came up with the idea, is looking for people to execute it. Before he gets a chance to find any, Vincenzo shoots him. With the Gun.

Meanwhile, McGurn has another plan. Strauss - a broker who owes him $70 000 - tells McGurn how and when x million dollars worth of bonds will be transported to a bank. In exchange, McGurn forgives Strauss's debt. So, the armed car robbery is set up for Tuesday.

Peter - the "kid" that got beat up - seduced McGurn's wife with unprecedented speed and effectiveness, and found out about McGurn's plans for Tuesday. He told this to Armageddon who - naturally - is an undercover Fed. On Tuesday, Armageddon sends an empty car to the bank, and delivers the bonds himself. The car is held up; luckily, no one gets killed; the robbers go home empty-handed. No one gets arrested, either. Peter goes back to wherever he came from, and Armageddon goes back to preaching undercover. End of Chicago story.

Though we didn't get to meet any of Lucky's friends or relatives in Chicago, we learned that Vincenzo Capone bought the Gun from an old Texan who told him the Gun was Colton White's. Colton White happens to be the main character in GUN (the game).

-------

In 2005:

Lucy has a strange hobby of telling people she drives for free fake stories about her life. While she's doing that, William has to ride to his Celebrity Poker Survivor interview with some other driver. On the way, their limo is stopped by Spider and her guys. Spider shoots the driver and kidnaps William, reasoning that Lucy will agree to deal to save William's life.

Kerry told Simon that he was hired by McPherson - he finally realized that McPherson has been lying to him all along, and that he has been murdering people for nothing. Simon pounds on him for a while and then lets him go. Kerry goes to Corazon's place. Lucy is there having dinner, and both Corazon and Lucy already know why Vic was murdered - because he was a witness (with hard evidence) to Robert's murder - but now they will probably want to ask Kerry who wanted Vic (and, therefore, Robert) killed.

Matt Viet realizes that he is a hax0r - not a gangster, and wants to get rid of the Gun. He can't handle the Gun. So, he takes it to - are you ready for this? - Clay. After a short rendezvous with his conscience, Clay decides to hide the Gun in the same planter he hid it in when this whole mess started.

And there you have it for this Wednesday.

[EDIT: edited to correct Colton White - thanks, EGo]
[EDIT: two more edits as per posts below]
[EDIT: x is probably $2 000 000. But since it can also be $10 000 000, I'll just stick to "x"]

Old Texan who sold Vincenzo the gun != Colton White. No doubt we'll see a few more middlemen on the way to the GUN launch.

Well, it seems like Strauss was probably killed, right? After the mysterious knock on his door that so nicely coincided with him thinking that They would never find him? Mr. Green

Are we sure William made it to the audition? I thought the phone call sounded like "don't worry, I'll be there..." and I assumed he was jacked on the way there, not on the way back.

I also think that Strauss was killed. I wonder if I should rephrase somehow; what I'm trying to convey is that no one was was arrested or killed during the holdup, per newspaper.

Hm... somehow I thought he did make it there, but you're probably right. I'll change it.

I agree with this. The audition was a ruse set up by Spider, or her handler, to get William's car to an isolated location. My bet is that they expected Lucy to be driving him and that Spider thought that this would be a good way to "talk" to Lucy again. When it turned out NOT to be Lucy driving, Spider took William as a bargaining chip/bait.

Oh, heh. I was going by the numbers here, and if the 1% that Strauss wants is ~$100,000, then the transaction is actually more like $10M - not the $1M that I miscalculated. So, um, $10M is nothing like $1M or even $2M. Hm. Maybe there was something else - $8M worth of something - included in the "transaction" besides the bonds? I have no idea what's going on here. I'll just edit to "x million dollars" Very Happy

I am not too up on the 1914 story, but Scrappy (who has done an awesome job with the guide) has it on her site.

As far as 2005:

Spider told Lucy she has William and demanded the Gun. So, nothing terribly unexpected there. She also met with McPherson, who, as it turns out, hired her (ok, so that was a little bit unexpected). McPherson told her to get the Gun or else; so Spider, upon returning to wherever it is she is keeping William, finds out that a guy named Johnny Deuces might have a lead on Lucy. Spider's guy Delaje meets with Johnny, and finds out that Johnny hid the Gun in a pawn shop, and that Johnny's brother has the pawn ticket. Delaje dutifully reports the above info to McPherson.

Now, let's turn to McPherson and Kerry. They met, and McPherson asked Kerry to get the pawn ticket. Kerry reads the name of the person that has the ticket and gasps - it is Pedro Suarez. You may remember that Johnny gave the ticket to his brother for safekeeping. His brother, of course, is Corazon herself... er, himself, 'cause she's still technically a guy. Kerry tells Corazon to leave/hide, and takes the ticket.

We are not sure what Kerry did at the pawn shop, but he brought McPherson a different gun. McPherson immediately recognizes the replica and has a teeny inkling of suspicion that Kerry might have something cooking. Nonetheless, he asks Kerry to go back to the pawn shop and figure out wtf. Meanwhile, he has Johnny (Corazon's brother) shot. Poor Corazon.

The interesting twist here is that Kerry might actually have more to do with the Gun than he could have ever expected. His mother, according to McPherson, is a Sullivan, and, apparently, Lothar Barbel was obsessively tracking down the Sullivan genealogy in relation to the Gun. McPherson even found Kerry because of that, and not because of his stepfather's murder, which he simply used as a reason to get to Kerry in the first place. So far we have Kerry's ancestor, Miss Kellie O'Grady featured in the 1914 story, as well as Lucy/Lucky's ancestor, John Smith Caldwell.

[EDIT per two posts below]
