These didn't work:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. Olympus Mons
2. Ares Vallis
3. Chryse Planitia
4. Pavonis Mons
5. Sergey Korolev
6. Giovanni Schiaparelli
For #2 I also tried 'Carl Sagan' and 'Carl Sagan Memorial'. I would have also tried 'Carl Sagan Memorial Station' but I ran out of guesses.
How about a bone with a little meat on it?

ChalcoDoror, could you indicate which we have right (if any) and which we're way off base on?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I've been trying "Olympus Rupes" rather than "Olympus Mons", which seems to be a more precise location (the cliffs on the edge of Olympus Mons). I couldn't find any more precise locations for the others, other than the different names for the landing sites.
I've used up my three attempts for the day.
I have a feeling this daily limit is really going to annoy me in time.

You're not way off base on any of them solitair.
You've got 2 answers spot on.
You've got 2 answers partially correct.
You've got 2 answers which don't include the winning word, but which represent the correct places.
I'm not telling any more, I'm just basking in the warm glow of having got a purple completely unaided, first try and in about 25 minutes on google and more importantly than any of that: before Chalco!
Although I must thank him for giving me my first cards on Friday, and getting me hooked...

While I appreciate your desire to bask smugly, it is the policy of this forum to

I second Oliverskeers13.
Puzzles are meant to be about working together and not basking in the glory of getting something right when other are having trouble with it. I don't mean to be bitchy - but smugness is not nice.
All the others have posted their solves here and, honestly, it's not about winning the game - it's about working together and playing the game.
I'm sorry if I offend but that's the way I feel about it AND I've got PMT and there is no chocolate in the house! I tend to lash out without chololate - I hope you all understand.

I'm starting to wonder if 2 and 3 should be Pathfinder and Viking.
