pentagrams are well known for having links with various religions, namely paganism, satanism, islam too i think? (or am i getting mixed up with flags?)
i think the possible link with cube based religions is more to do with the symbology of assigning meaning to geometric shapes, which if you believe dan brown, can be seen in anything and everything and ends up linking most religions together.

This is, quite probably, irrelevant, but the number 'five' is also the number of corners a cube appears to have, when viewed from a certain angle; this may be a link, however tenuous.
