Card Manager application

I've just finished the Java version of my Perplex City Card Manager application - anyone who was waiting for a version that would run on a mac, it's here!

http://www.perplexcitycardmanager.com/

It's an app that allows you to keep a record of your cards, solves and trades. It lets you generate the list of cards you have/need in a variety of different formats. It also allows you to directly update your perplexcitytrades.com profile and generate the url for the perplexcitycardcatalog.com trades page.

Please feel free to ask questions or make suggestions/comments/criticisms - just post a reply here, email or pm me.

Thanks go to BriEnigma for allowing me to use the images from the cardcatalog.

I intend to make the sourcecode available for both the Java and .NET versions over the next day or so. I'll make a post here when they're up.

Thanks, and I hope you enjoy using the app.

Ben

There was a bug with the first version that stopped the Trade list from displaying - it's now fixed.

woo this is cool, cheers :)
although for some reason, none of the card catalog images are displaying, it says its downloaded them but there's nowt there.
also, and i dont know how hard this would be to implement but its just an idea, it would be cool if you could see the maps on the backs of the cards arranged in the grid, like i think bri already has on the card catolog, but so you can see how much of the map you have collected so far?

rach =)

spugmeistress - has an 'images' folder been created in the same directory as the jar file? If so, does this directory contain a 'cards' directory, which in turn has some .png files in it?

Would you be able to send me your ppccmdb/ppccm.script file (email or pm is probably best)? Also, what operating system/version are you using?

Regarding the map - it's something I've been thinking of doing for a while ... I'll put it on the todo list Smile

The source code for the Java card manager is now up on the site. Please feel free to download it and have a tinker.

I've just posted an update to fix the points total calculation. Let's hope it's right this time!

Depending on which cards you've solved, you may notice that your points total as indicated by the card manager is 10 fewer than the leaderboard states. This is due to the points value being misprinted (and hence entered incorrectly) on card 120 - Cube Tube. Just edit the card, and replace the stated points value of 20 with the correct value of 30.

I've come to the conclusion that I really don't have time to maintain two versions of the card manager app.
As a result, I've decided to stop active development of the .net version, and to concentrate on the Java version only.

This doesn't of course mean that the .net version will stop working; only that new features will be implemented in the Java version only.

If anyone would like to take over the .net project, I would be happy to pass it on - just contact me and we can do a handover. Anyone who would like the source of the .net version, just contact me.

It would be very useful if anyone who has an issue with using the Java version were to contact me, with some info as to what their issue is. If I suddenly find that half the people using the app are unable to use the Java version, then maybe I need to do a rethink.

I'll work on getting an app ready to help migrate the existing data from the .net app to the Java app. That should help to make the changeover as painless as possible.

Thanks, and I hope this doesn't cause too many problems.

I'm not particularly interested in the java app, but I would be interested in an API for the website.

Ideally I'd like to be able to retrieve a list of my wanted/available cards in XML form, and to be able to update the list using some kind of authenticated API.

Whaddya think?

frankie : are you talking about the trading site (http://www.perplexcitytrades.com/)? If so, skenmy is probably the person you need to get in touch with ...

If not, then I've completely misunderstood your message!

I made a boo-boo, and had broken the popup menu on the trades tab (which kind of negates the point of having it!).

Apologies all round - I recommend you download the latest version so you can manage the trades a little more easily.

UPDATE : I've added a .NET to Java data migration tool to ease the move to using the Java version. It's available on the site.

QuadsChick : did you download the PPCCM.jar file from the website? It's available from the 'Download the java card manager' link. If you're using the .NET to Java migrator, you'll need to download the jar in addition to the PPCCM-Migrator.zip file.

I had a weird thing where when I downloaded the java version it called the file .zip instead of .jar, but if I renamed it, it worked.
