[SPEC] Perplexian Ghost Planet?

OK, I'm prepared for trout on this one. With some of the timing info we just got about the appearance of the cube, and PCGF Jay's Civil War thread, I got to thinking...

What if the reason that Perplex City rarely mentions outsiders/foreigners is that there aren't any to speak of, due to the war. Perhaps the planet was wiped virtually clean of life by some Uber-weapon. The Third power possesed a protective "Shield" device that not only protected them, but the nearby academy town of Perplex City. When the dust settled, the protected area was the only bastion of human life on the planet. Perplexians first cheered their inadvertent saviors before, inevitably, they began to be blamed for the destruction. After all they were one of the groups being attacked. As the societal anger grew, the Third power was driven underground, living on only in bogeyman mythology. In the intervening years, Perplex City has expanded, even growing sattelite cities (whose names escape me at the moment), and rebuilt industrial capacity. THIS is the kind of thing that would lead to a culture that didn't want to think about the war, a culture that didn't want their tech to get anywhere near the level that destroyed most of the planet. Heck, they may not even know what the uber-weapon was! And wouldn't that make them even more afraid? Confused

You should write an article and be prepared to win a great prize! [/shameless pimp]

Love to, but no time. I'm about to NanoWrimo, and I'm desperately trying to get ahead on household chores right now so that I can devote every spare moment to trying to write 50,000 words on my novel between Nov 1 and Nov 30. (Is it possible to do a months worth of plant watering and lawn mowing in advance?) So, I'll be away for November. I'm sure these boards will miss my amazing ability to NOT solve puzzles, and to NOT contribute meaningfully to their solution in any way. Rolling Eyes
So, if anyone else wants to run with my idea, feel free. Please... please... one at a time, there are plenty of RIBarnica ideas to go around (though some are a bit undercooked, and others appear a bit spoiled). Very Happy
