Did you guys make sure to space the picture submissions out at least 24 hours apart? He *does* specify only one picture a day with the hat.

That's totally the issue I have with sending it to the Tombstone Hold 'Em events, too: not only do people there get the favor for Goth Training, but they also have a shot at the hat, or, it looks more possible now, a rejection of a hat favor. The purpose is *not* really to get the hat to as many *people* as possible, but as many *places.*

Oh well!

Yeah, I accept not getting the hat favor (although we did have picts of all different places in portland) I would have at least liked to get my Cemeteries after dark favor, but nothing Crying or Very sad

Can't imagine why the hat would be hanging around in D.C., City of Liars and Cheats. After all, I've already told you folks that Vic doesn't like cemeteries and it's one city, ONE photo. Move it along, son.

The living forget, but the dead remember. I will remember what you've done for me.

You'll be getting a little something from me, a mark of my appreciation for everyone to see.

Thanks again. It means a lot to me.

Lucky

I'll give you a little token of my appreciation if you did the job
right, and you put your Last Call handle here: tbridge

Vic's hat got here yesterday, but due to a busy schedule, we couldn't
show him a proper time. So, we took him out for lunch today, my boss
and I. We went over to Treasury, despite Vic's insistence he wanted
to go see George over at the White House. I told him George didn't
just see people anymore, and while he was disappointed, he still
tagged along. This is us at Treasury.
After that, we hit the White House, where I blinked:

and then to Lafayette Park, where Vic got acquainted with a
ladyfriend. You should only see where his hands are:

After that, it was off to the Elephant and Castle for lunch and a
beer. We had to buy, Vic said his money was no good anymore.

It was good to see him. He'll hang with us through Sunday or Monday,
he said.

Any way to get that hat to NYC, then, since DC is used up?

Hopefully rose can make it, and take the torch and pass it along!

Ah well - so if you want to be in the pic, have a quick meet with the custodian for your city, take the pic and move it along...Send Lucky ONE of the pics.

If someone's headed that way (LouMac, perhaps could take it to PVD before sending it overseas?) then we can go that route.

The reason I sent the hat to SF and then to Washington DC, was the potential to get it to a second location quickly afterwards (from someone present who could take it out of the area in 24 hrs), AND because so many people wanted to see the hat.

Now it is going to go around the world.

Please remember Lucky's instructions:

Exotic Location
One picture per 24 hrs will be accepted (so ORGANIZE yourself if there are two people in the same city, one person on that day, the other can submit while the hat is being shipped).

Sorry, not everyone who WANTS the hat is going to get the hat. I'm following Lucky's rules as best I can.

There are some smallfavors that are first come-first serve, some that more than one person can complete (but limited) and some that anyone can complete. I didn't make the rules, Lucky did.

Meanwhile, if the hat reaches you, please remember to add to the memory book that is traveling with the hat. I printed out some of the pictures and glued them inside (hint hint). This book will eventually be enshrined in the ARG museum. Thanks!!!

From Cortana's email, it is also one person per CITY.

I can tell you that I was rejected for the hat tour even though it was another day, but the same city (SF).

Hello? You can be very creative (I would imagine). Each city is more than just the "main" city name (jeesh).

Hint: Pentagon City? Uhm, Chevy Chase, MD? Lots of close possibilities. [Course, if the PMs are monitoring this board, we'll know if they deny someone for being in the same "state".]

I think it's pretty clear that Lucky DOESN'T want pictures of the hat at events. We should definitely concentrate on getting it to exotic locations, not to live events!

Look at it this way: There are 7 favors that can be done anywhere. You need 8 to get the highest level of reward in the Fellowship. The hat is a way of letting people who cannot get to a live event because they live far away get that 8th favor.

If we take out the requirement that the hat must be back in the states every weekend, we can get it to a lot more of our international and remote friends.

Sorry I missed DC - it sounds great and I could have taken a quick shot of the hat with the Statue of Liberty and sent it on the way to wherever it is going next.

We need to aim for one picture per day. So whoever gets it next should get a quick shot and send it on; preferably to someone in another town or city who can get a shot of the hat before handing it off to the next person.

I think we can organize this. And I don't think the hat is coming back for any other live events. We know Vic doesn't want the hat to be at the events. So let us try to get as many places as possible.

How many do we have so far?

Oh - about the number of small favors, maybe they will add a few more. I don't think people will have to depend on the hat or a live event to get to the highest level.

/me points out the current schedule for Vic's Hat!!!! To be updated as info appears in my inbox. Again, not scheduled for any more of the live events except the last one (I firmly believe that will be the end of the official game, and I'm gonna be there). It's on it's way around the world, folks, as promised. I'm sorry if it doesn't get to your home state/town/country. I did the best I could with the info I got from those outside the US. And all this shipping of the hat box is not cheap.

Vic's hat arrived here at noon today.

Even here in the English midlands, there were plenty of possible locations to visit. The challenge was in narrowing the list down, and then packing them in to one day. As Vic was a documentary maker, I decided to take it to places that have stories to tell.

First stop was the old Coventry Cathedral. Last week we saw what war can do to people. Would Franz Mueller have become a murderer in peacetime? I doubt it. What we didn't see was what it can do to cities. Hence Coventry Cathedral, bombed during the blitz of 1940, and thenceforth left in ruins as a monument to international peace, and what can happen when we lose it.

Then on to Kenilworth Castle. There's 800 years of history in the stones of this place, so the problem here is to decide which story to tell. It was the home of Simon de Montfort, who was a political nuisance throughout much of the thirteenth century. Perhaps his masterstroke, however, was marrying Henry III's sister. This gave him the power to create a parilament of barons, and for this he is remembered as one of the first people to assert the power of democracy over the monarchy. A long wedge, with a very thin point.

What I think would have interested Vic, however, is an entirely different story. The sandstone walls of Kenilworth Castle, adept as they may have been at withstanding medieval siege weapons, proved to be no good at all at withstanding masonry chisels. The practice seems to have begun at the start of the nineteenth century; almost every available surface has been carved, scratched or engraved with the names of those who made the journey to visit the place. There is an untold history here to be discovered, and I think Vic would have relished the challenge.

The hat moves on tomorrow. I hope it enjoyed its stay. A few photos can be found here:
